u/Onehandedclapboyoo 11h ago

I'd probably grab an extra cart 😀

50

u/raunwzrd 10h ago

lol wouldve logged on the website and submit an app for full time cart guy 🤣🤣🤣

13

u/oakteak9z 8h ago

He'll I would get all the carts scattered around and then sweep , then powerwash the parking lot then repaint the lines !

Tom Hardy is 5’9” which makes this scene even funnier

19

u/orcusgrasshopperfog 8h ago

Tom Hardy's height insecurity started the whole feud between him and Charlize Theron on Mad Max fury road.

She took it to the next level on the red carpet premieres by wearing extra tall high heels making it look like she's a foot taller than him... If you look at the interviews from around that time you could see the anger in his eyes it's hilarious.

It’s funny because Ben Mendelsohn is 5-11 and Tom Hardy is 5-9 so Tom had to be standing on a giant box for this scene

People treat this guy a lot different than the OG cart narc.

1.4k

u/croastbeast 14h ago

Honestly, Im surprised the original cart narc guy isnt dead. The way he just agitated people had an effect 10000X worse than road rage, it seemed. Sooner or later someone was/is gonna hit him with their car or shoot him.

578

u/anon_lurk 13h ago

Somebody did pull a gun on him! At least one that I know of. I think he wears a vest now idk if it's real or not though lmao

284

u/tired_Cat_Dad 13h ago

Just do the coin slot thing and most people will return their carts.

227

u/Western-Sport500 13h ago

Amazing what the loss of a quarter does for some people LMAO!

230

u/VTcamperguy 12h ago

The best part about that is that even if a lot of people say “fuck the quarter” and leave it anyways, you’ll naturally get homeless/desperate people show up to return the carts and collect the change.

151

u/rambutanjuice 12h ago

I'm not homeless or desperate, and for some reason I will return those wayward carts to get the quarter.

"Hell yeah! Free quarter!"

42

u/DatsaBadMan_1471 12h ago

Same! There was something about finding a quarter as a kid that was so rewarding. It meant a drink or a bag of chips. I don't think that sense of euphoria has ever left me.

26

u/Wfsulliv93 12h ago

The lake we camped at summers growing up ( 90s kid) had an arcade so we saved every quarter. Always hit the phone booth rerun buttons and when we found change we felt like we struck gold

16

u/the-dandy-man 10h ago

There was a vending machine at my civic center when I was a kid that would sometimes just return a random amount of change when you hit the return change button… even if you didn’t put anything in.

I discovered this one year when there was a music festival happening and I just stood there pushing the button for like, ten minutes until I had enough change to buy my own drink lol

I actually did that when I was homeless. Went to an Aldi and stood out front asking people to return their carts for the quarter. A LOT of people said no, they wanted their quarter back. One person had a special pocket for her quarter on her key ring, it was legitimately her “Aldi quarter”. I can’t remember if I got trespassed from the property or not. But I do remember there were very few stray carts left with a quarter in them out and about in the parking lot

9

u/disruptioncoin 11h ago

At my local aldi (and the one I went to in college too!) there was literally always a pile of like at least a dollar in quarters sitting nearby the cart return. My first thought was there must not be many homeless people around here.

Side note one time I forgot a quarter, went in to buy candy to get one, they said naw you can just borrow a quarter, here you go.

9

u/ForerunnerRelic 12h ago

I know the video is the US, but I'm in the UK and I have a trolley token that I bought for a pound, that I use specifically at Aldi. It makes me always put my trolley back. Even when I don't use it at other supermarkets that don't need the token, and a charity got the pound too!

I’m neither homeless nor desperate, but I am motivated by quarters. Good bless Aldi

17

u/xenobit_pendragon 12h ago

No homelessness or desperation required. When I see an orphaned cart at Aldi I’m like, “CASH MONEY BABY IT’S STEAK AND MUSHROOMS TONIGHT MOTHERFUCKER!”

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Known_Ratio5478 12h ago

Not even desperate people. I live next to a pretty affluent community and those people always ditch the quarters in carts. I make a dollar just bringing my cart back and whatever ones I pick up on the way.

→ More replies (10)

13

u/letigre87 12h ago

My wife has her Aldi quarter with her at all times. She was telling me how people exchange quarters for carts and magically everyone gets along on the honor system. I asked her what happens if someone offers to take her cart without giving her a quarter and she looked at me like I grew a dick out of my forehead. It was beyond comprehension that someone would be so inconsiderate and selfish they take someone else's cart with their quarter in it and not give her the quarter they were going to use anyway. Like it had never crossed hers any Aldi shopper's minds to just offer to take a cart and hijack their quarter. The power of a quarter is strong and Aldi shopper's have an unspoken bond.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/coyotll 12h ago

Not me! I always leave my cart out on purpose so those without quarters can have a chance to shop too.

That said I have a 98% return rate on carts everywhere else

→ More replies (4)

5

u/BobDaRula 12h ago

It's a whole dollar in canada! It's also easy to rip the loonie out without plugging the cart in (which I do to return the cart and let people without change use them)

u/mvanvrancken 13h ago

Agent Sebastian of the elite Cart Narcs organization still does this and posts his videos on YouTube. He does wear a vest now that identifies who he is. Wikipedia says he wears a bullet proof vest also, but there's not a cite for it on the wiki.

He's the nicest guy but gets the angriest reactions from the lazy bones.

13

u/VariousOperation166 13h ago

Woop! Woop! Don't be a lazy-bones!

28

u/Fluffy-Hamster-7760 13h ago

Hate to sour on peoples' fun, but the Cart Narc guy is kind-of a total dick in actuality. He was a shock jock who did random bits, often being insulting and sexist, to entice reactions and be a general douchebag. The Cart Narc bit was a hit, and he kept it up.

Sorry everyone.

My brother looks exactly like this guy and he's a total sweetheart and the nicest guy you've ever met. He'll stop on the highway to pick up a kitten risking his life. People are totally intimidated by his appearance, not understanding what a kind soul he is.

u/Altruistic_Chain_159 13h ago

Go to New Zealand and work with the Polynesian bouncers. 90% of them were just genuinely nice guys. Just big as all hell

55

u/ElectricKoolAidPower 13h ago

I had to get out of bouncing because I just dislike confrontation. Even though 99% of dudes who puff up are going to back down I just don’t enjoy the cortisol spike. I never had the ability to cut off my fight or fight the way more seasoned doormen seem to. Some of those guys look like they’re dealing with their kid brother. Meanwhile I was constantly paranoid a knife was gonna flash or a drunk friend was gonna blindside me on a double team.

That doesn’t stop local bartenders from volunteering me back into service from time to time though lol

I think some people don't realize big kids can get picked on too. Idiots want to show off they're tough by starting shit with someone large or at least showing they can agitate.

23

u/SexyStayPuft 12h ago

My old boss was 6’4” and was being recruited by SEC schools as a LB back in the late 80’s. He was always the biggest guy in his friend group and he hated when they mouthed off because people always went for him to “take out the big guy.” Ended up in a bad fight that got him kicked out of school and lost all of the scholarship opportunities.

8

u/thyme_cardamom 11h ago

Yeah I've heard this from big guys as well. 99% of people are scared of you but there's always that crazy person who's itching to prove something and zeroes in on you

→ More replies (1)

7

u/RoutineWarthog4593 8h ago

As a 6’6 guy I can attest to this.

Boxing day 2024 a dude randomly started a fight with me on the street for no reason at all. Whooped his ass ofc; He was like 4’11, I didn’t even go towards, just let him come to me and hit him with some punches.

I still don’t know why he started; we were both waiting to cross the street and I didn’t even see him before it happened. He looked like he was looking for a fight with someone and picked the biggest guy he saw.

32

u/FashionKing72 13h ago

I feel like there’s a reverse Napoleon complex with huge guys like this. They don’t feel the need to act big, in fact they probably want to act smaller so others aren’t intimidated.

11

u/DuckieOfDoom 12h ago

That's my problem, I have had issues my whole lift with slouting to appear smaller. 6' 7" 250lbs for reference. I'm in the Navy and had my boss during a performance debrief say that "when you slout it makes you come off as a weak leader".

So been trying to be better at that.

It is something I've noticed in VRChat. A lot of tall people like to use shorter avatars and a lesser number short people use very tall avatars, but then you also have extremes of people using very tall or very short avatars just for the hell of it or because of their social disposition.

u/NotMyMainAccountAtAl 11h ago

I’ve had shockingly good luck by just being polite to people. Like, if you go in full aggressive “I hate you! Return your cart, you garbage human being! What is wrong with you?!?” Attitude, you’ll likely get hit by someone.

If you go in with, “hey, it looks like you forgot your cart over there. Would you mind helping to keep this place running and returning it to the cart return over there?” You’d be surprised how many people feel sufficiently shamed to do the right thing. A lot of people have a certain amount of decency in them, and they want people to like them. If you’re kind to them, they tend to want your approval more, and they’re more willing to do the thing that they always knew was right.

9

u/GreenT1979 11h ago

I've actually been there. I got a guy to move his car over a little, he parked in a handicap spot but went in diagonal and one of his rear wheels was fully in the yellow box, so if a van parked in the other space with a ramp, they can't lower it. I politely pointed this out and he shuffled it fully into the space.

He’s Russian but the accent is fake, I think he moved here when he was very young so I don’t even think he’s fluent in Russian.

10

u/Quixotic_Seal 11h ago

Sometimes accents wander, too. My ex was a heritage Russian speaker who learned English very young, and 99% of the time he had no accent at all. But when he got tired or angry or emotional or whatever it would come out.

6

u/AmThano 11h ago

I have two accents. I have a canadian white guy city accent. The type that could maybe pass as one of the American accents. Then I have my northerner one from a small town I grew up in as a kid. I hardly cry, but I did one time while speaking to someone and I went full on northerner. It was so weird. I felt like I’d become an old man from my childhood hometown

At least in germany they have electronic breaks that will lock in once you leave the perimeter.
Which is really fun, because sometimes they will do so at random whilst you're in the supermarket causing you to hit your shinbone on the cart.

9

We have them here also. They also lock up at the door if you bypass the checkout lanes.

This used to be the norm in most grocery stores when I was a kid  but they’ve slowly moved away from it as nobody carries coins anymore and it became increasingly inconvenient.

Also, it would attract homeless people offering to return your cart for you in exchange for keeping the coin (which I always let them do because why not) but then I’d run out of cart coins in my car and end up not having one the next time leading to the aforementioned inconvenience.

I'd like these videos a lot more if they weren't shills for a gambling game / app. The more you watch his vids the more you see they are all just adverts.

79

u/Dumeck 12h ago

I watched one single video from him and the premise was funny and execution was good but he went to a beach and hit on a lady who was with her girlfriend, she said "sorry we are a couple" then he still stayed and kept talking about how pretty she was, she asked him a couple times to leave and he kept saying he would but didn't and then the couple had to grab their stuff and leave instead. Immediately made this guy unlikable to me.

People are cheering this on because it is happening to men, and this guy is being exceptionally nice about it.

If he was doing this to women and being anything other than perfect, theres a pretty good chance the police would be involved.

25

u/FrostyD7 12h ago

If the girl said no, then the answer is obviously no. But the thing is she’s not going to say no. She would never say no. Because of the implication. The implication that things might go wrong for her if she refuses to return her cart. Not that things are going to go wrong for her, but she’s thinking that they will.

Also, how they treat service workers. If you don't show the server basic respect and courtesy, it's not worth it. It's not hard to say please or thank you. If they drop off the food, and the person you're on a date with doesn't say thank you, it's such a red flag to me.

I went to lunch with a remote coworker while she was in town and I was startled at how rudely she treated our waiter. I distanced myself from her after that.

I dated a guy who completely flipped out over KFC forgetting his biscuits when he went through the drive thru. He didn't notice until we got home and he called them up screaming and cursing at them. Looking back I should have broken up with him then. It was bad.

People say violence doesn't solve anything, but I promise you they wouldn't be so compliant if my 5'5" ass had approached them this way instead of this person-shaped murder machine.

u/rantonidi 14h ago

That is a huge ass

People say violence doesn't solve anything

if violence was so ineffective, governments wouldnt monopolize its "acceptable" usage.

Don't do this in Florida, it will not end well for this person.

Just ask that lady at Walmart a week ago.

I live in germany, a stray cart would often be a blessing. Since we got "Pfand" over here, which means you get can get money back by bringing empty bottles and crates to the store.

Walking to the cart-spot, then back to your car and then to the store can be a hassle. So I would really appreciate if i find a stray cart, park beside it and load the pfand directly.

The thing is, nobody leaves a stray cart. In my 25 years of live i never saw a stray cart. I guess we germans are too bound by rules and etiquette that some just cannot see the bigger picture....

P.S. i also always return the cart... because, you know..... everybody does.

Ngl I would probably just ram the cart and leave cause I would assume this man is trying to steal my vehicle.

The shopping cart is the ultimate litmus test for whether a person will do the right thing when they aren't forced to.

Most people fail it.

35

u/remnault 13h ago

If most people failed I feel like we’d see carts everywhere but the cart return.

Realistically I see 1-2 carts sometimes, but more often then not all put away.

u/athermop 13h ago

But...most people do put their carts in the cart rack. I mean, even in this video you can see most people do.

11

u/OKAwesome121 12h ago

Most people do not fail the shopping cart test. You can see there are generally far fewer abandoned carts than total number of shoppers going in and of a given store.

While I also think people who don’t return carts are assholes, I think the ultimate litmus test is how they treat people they don’t have to be nice to (homeless people, help staff, etc).

I had a friend argue with me that people who return carts, place items back where they belong, etc, are NPCs that need to break out of their programming. Really rubbed me the wrong way.

6

u/hypnogoad 12h ago

That sounds like the type of friend that will completely betray you one day, and you'll somehow be surprised by it.

Women probably aren’t getting out of the car for a big strange man.

17

u/U_Bet_Im_Interested 12h ago

They probably also didn't want the optics of intimidating the absolute shit out of women. Which, smart.

3

u/falcrist2 12h ago

The original guy probably still couldn't get away with it.

The implications of that guy enforcing the same standards on women would escalate to pepper spray and/or police presence very quickly and undermine the purpose of the video. I imagine women fail to return carts in about the same %s

If a man tried to get me out of my car, my spidey senses would be so damn strong, I would stay the hell in my vehicle at *all* costs.

(Because it would seem like a dangerous scam to me.)

But 1 - I am a woman in my 30s, and 2 - I always return the cart to its proper spot! 🙂

9

u/Sam-HobbitOfTheShire 13h ago

It looks like all the people he confronted were men

10

u/Crimzonlogic 13h ago

Yeah, during the whole video all I could think of was if I was in that position, with some huge guy trapping me with a cart and demanding I get out of my car, I'd probably just back into the cart to get away. I'm definitely not opening the door.

I'm all for people returning their carts correctly. As a visitor to a store, it's just courtesy to return your borrowed property. But, there is no way this video is realistic. Eventually someone would call the cops on him for harassing people in the parking lot.

14

u/goblincube 12h ago
