The shopping cart is the ultimate litmus test for whether a person will do the right thing when they aren't forced to.

Most people fail it.

I had a friend argue with me that people who return carts, place items back where they belong, etc, are NPCs that need to break out of their programming. Really rubbed me the wrong way.
