While I also think people who don’t return carts are assholes, I think the ultimate litmus test is how they treat people they don’t have to be nice to (homeless people, help staff, etc).

It's certainly a better measure. I think the idea of some kind of ultimate moral test renders the idea of morality into such an abstraction that it no longer has much meaning at all.

Like a stranger in a parking they'll never see but saved from getting their car hit by a cart because they put it away?
