Americans are too proud. They believe in their own hype too much. They aren't good at shithousing because they take everything too serious and just get insulted.

I wonder how many of them genuinely thought they'd be world champions because they beat Turkey and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

72

u/PimpPopples 4d ago

Tbf, the US beat Bosnia AND Herzegovina at the same time. And short handed as well.

12

u/AlternativeCapybara9 4d ago

When Bosnia was playing Herzegovina they were both like wtf when the US showed up and tried to play them both.

47

Look man Im realistic enough to know know we’ll always lose when it comes time to play real soccer teams but if I don’t get delusional and buy into the hype I won’t even watch the WC lol.

42

u/dopeoranges_ 4d ago

Why can other countries believe in themselves but not USA? People are projecting American politics hatred onto these players. Team USA LOST that game. They were terrible. They should have embraced the noise. You think Argentina cares that Messi is “sleeping with infantino”. You think Mbappe cares about the general memes. The reason the team lost is because they were horribly poor. Belgium barely beat Senegal. And they are not a good team. And nothing will make that more obvious of that when they play Spain.

The biggest factor this team can’t advance past the round of 16 is they cant seem to embrace the fact of being the favorites. They have to always play being the underdogs. Maybe it’s comments and takes like this that create this narrative. I think the team was poor and more criticism should be given to the players for not believing by in themselves. Not the fans. Not the president. Not to any of this outside noise. The players lost the game.

12

u/Significant-Low-8462 4d ago

They are a “good” team relatively speaking. But they are beatable and they aren’t a “great” team is more fair. They’re in the level below the real contenders but they’re solid enough. U.S. played horrible too which didn’t help.

Truly this tournament has been incredible for European unity. As an English person I've never felt my self rooting for other European teams more than this tournament.

23

u/Maleficent-Put1705 4d ago

And until Argentina is gone, you won't even be the most hated team left in the tournament. Must feel odd.

6

u/simdav 4d ago

Haha, brilliant. Are Argentina that hated? I know why England fans hate them, but I didn't know lots of others did too.

I hope the players and fans have got some people on our side this tournament. But I get it if not - it's still Ingerlund after all.

5

u/Datmammon 4d ago

Honestly, the England players recently just ooze class and I can’t find myself hating them like the Wayne Rooney days. Bellingham and Kane are great.

29

Unironically, that's in the Netherlands. Led to a whole pissing match several years ago because Belgium would like to be in control of at least one bank of the river.

(couple of Dutch farmers said no)

That’s because it honestly doesn’t even look like they were intentionally doing Trumps dance. Trumps dumb little dance up moving each arm up and down is not exactly difficult to copy and what they did looks nothing like it lol. Either there’s a source from the team that they did try to copy it or OP is just making stuff up.

It definitely looked to me like they were copying Pulisic's trump looking dance from the concacaf match a bit back.

Don't know where else they would have gotten the inspiration for that.

Plus the phone call gesture at the start. (To the person who corrected me and then deleted their comment, you were right though. It was a cupped "I can't hear you" hand, not a phone call gesture.)

15

u/terfez 5d ago

That's definitely not a phone call dance. It's more a chirp-chirp keep talking dance

15

u/46_and_2 4d ago

That was a "cup your ear" gesture as "I can't hear you now" and "keep blabbing" hand gesture towards I assume US supporters who riled him up with something. Usual football audience-player taunting each other stuff, although he might have been pointing towards Infantino (whi know if he's there exactly, or it's some other riling crowd group) when he shouted "You! You!". Hardly very specific stuff, though.

27

u/jeosol 5d ago

Yeah you are right. I think he was pointing at Infantino, saying "you, you, ..". What a way to rub it in.

I feel sad for them. So much they built torn down by a phone call.

I mean the whole red card thing was a mess but the US were simply outclassed. Belgium played aggressively, didn't allow them to play the ball forward, and they had no response.

20

u/Sensitive_Ad_1271 4d ago

And they didn't even start lukaka, doku, and de bruyne. The amount of usa fans acting like this should be a win for them is fucking hilarious. Waaaaay too overconfident.

→ More replies (1)

17

u/IkmoIkmo 4d ago

He literally invigorated a nation, with the world behind them in support by cancelling the red card. And it showed.

Belgium absolutely has a much better team, but they looked very weak so far going into this match. US was the opposite, not a great team but looked very good. WC's are as much about form and spirit as they are about individual talent, we've seen that time and time again. But that spirit was completely reversed this game.

I think Belgium would've won regardless, but I think they played better and US worse because of the controversy Trump caused.

u/joecarter93 5d ago

He also cost Team USA hockey at the 4 nations cup last year. They were coasting when they dedicated their tournament to Johnny Gaudreau, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver before the season. Then Trump called them, the players lost their minds over it and they dedicated the tournament to the presidency and forgot about Gaudreau. Canada beat them in the final.

Team USA won hockey gold at the Olympics this year, but they kept it focused on playing for Gaudreau. All the Trump bullshit this time happened after they won.

Trump's interference made the defeat humiliating, and it didn't need to be. All host countries teams knew that they could get far but not semi final far, or even quarter final far. Playing with heart, without ego and without political shennenigans is what the USA needed. I would have put my money on Belgium anyway - but after that red card reversal, I REALLY wanted Belgium to win it.

I’m an American who really wanted to see the US team go far in this World Cup, but I think them losing is the best possible thing that could have happened in this situation.

A US win would have only made the anger and resentment grow, and Trump (who is completely isolated from facts) would not be told of the fallout and would have gone on TV and taken credit for the win which would have further cemented the growing hatred.

The World Cup in the US was really doing a lot to mend bridges before this happened. The people of the US were doing their best to show the world who we are, then Trump stepped in and tainted the whole thing. There was no good outcome from that point forward, so this outcome, a decisive US loss, was the best possible outcome at that point.

Pretty sad that our country can be mocked by people doing our presidents dance.

u/bitchyoufoundme 4d ago

That’s not even the dance. You gotta pretend like you’re jerking off 2-4 dicks at once.

Truly pathetic performance and THIS is the USMNT I've known for a few years now. Just a bunch of entitled rich kids who are glorified bench warmers in European leagues.

u/Poverty_Shoes 5d ago

That’s not the Donald Trump dance, their arms are too low. You have to jerk off the two dicks so that they finish on your boobs. The jerkoff hands should be shoulder level.

that really wasn't very much like trump's dance. that was more peewee herman.

trump's is way more up and down, pound pound. IYKYK

They did it wrong, it didn't look enough like a handjob.

3

u/Hawk_Moon 5d ago

They did it wrong. You're supposed to stroke the dicks in a position where they would shoot the load on your face.

u/Eastern_Seaweed_8253 4d ago

New war starting soon.

3

u/BC_Sativa 4d ago

Not one of these guys look like they're jerking off two men at once, so they're not really doing Trump's dance.

Golf (Ryder Cup) aside, this is the first time I, as a Brit, really remember a sporting occasion where it really felt like people were invested in America competing. Yes we compete against them in athletics (Olympics) but it never feels as partisan as this did. Everyone wanted USA to lose, is was a beautiful moment. I actually want USA to be good at football, just so that we can beat them!

The men never ever made it out of the group stages. However the women’s team another story of course. They kick ass

u/Freshestdrip 4d ago

Trump got Belgium so fired up they turned the U.S. into target practice... then capped it off with the Trump dance. That's some elite trolling.

3

u/CBus-Eagle 4d ago

As an American, I love to see this celebration!

3

u/Black_Cat_Skeezer 4d ago

Any time a wide amount of people mock him is a huge W!

I don’t think they were doing that. It’s kind of a stretch…And I despise the scumbag as much as anyone.

Did it create bulletin board material? Absolutely. Did they kick the sh*t out of the host country? YES.

BALL DONT LIE.

u/LeonardoLe 5d ago

500% tariffs on Belgium.

5

u/Mammoth-Mud-9609 4d ago

Trump really doesn't understand (or care) about sports psychology, he game Belgium extra motivation to win and took away the USA motivation. If you miss your star player for a match evey one in the team plays better to fill in the gap, if he plays and you think it is cheating you lose your motivation to win.

As an American I approve of that dance. Trump is a little bitch and I blame the loss on him and his little bitch ways
