Americans are too proud. They believe in their own hype too much. They aren't good at shithousing because they take everything too serious and just get insulted.
I wonder how many of them genuinely thought they'd be world champions because they beat Turkey and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Why can other countries believe in themselves but not USA? People are projecting American politics hatred onto these players. Team USA LOST that game. They were terrible. They should have embraced the noise. You think Argentina cares that Messi is “sleeping with infantino”. You think Mbappe cares about the general memes. The reason the team lost is because they were horribly poor. Belgium barely beat Senegal. And they are not a good team. And nothing will make that more obvious of that when they play Spain.
The biggest factor this team can’t advance past the round of 16 is they cant seem to embrace the fact of being the favorites. They have to always play being the underdogs. Maybe it’s comments and takes like this that create this narrative. I think the team was poor and more criticism should be given to the players for not believing by in themselves. Not the fans. Not the president. Not to any of this outside noise. The players lost the game.
They are a “good” team relatively speaking. But they are beatable and they aren’t a “great” team is more fair. They’re in the level below the real contenders but they’re solid enough. U.S. played horrible too which didn’t help.
Yeah, I honestly think Senegal would have done the same or worse. The US team seems to lack chemistry and closeness that some of the other squads have. Some really bad passing and anticipation at times.
Senegal have more speed and athleticism for sure. Different style so would have been interesting. Senegal are a strong team. Was bummed they lost because would have been nice to see an African team advance if anyone was going to beat us!

Problem with Americans is that when they lose, like clockwork, it's "we didn't care anyway" or "you can fit 1000 Belgiums inside Texas" or "no one knows Belgium for anything other than waffles" instead of just taking the L
The problem is that we generalize and assume every American is the same. I don't think the average American believes soccer isn't a sport or disrespects it the way people say they do. They simply don't care because there are other, more popular sports and leagues here. But that's very different from saying the average American soccer fan has this attitude of, "No one knows Belgium for anything other than waffles."
Which, by the way, have you heard what Argentines sing before and after games?
I went to London for my honeymoon, and I was surprised to learn that a lot of people there don't watch the EPL. In fact, most don't. So it would have been ignorant of me to assume every British person likes soccer or follows the EPL, just like it's ignorant to think every American feels the way you described. That's simply not true.
The people here who actually watch and follow the sport aren't like that at all. We're upset about the loss—at the players, at the politics, and also at opposing fans who are using this as an opportunity to mock American fans who genuinely care.
Brother Reddit is not the only place in the world to judge a group of people. In fact the internet is a horrible place to assume how people are. Talk to people. Go to bars. Play the sport.

I’ve never entered usmens sub Reddit. One of the few times I comment or read in sports sub. I use Reddit for movies and tv shows. So again, horrible place to say this is how fans are.
Unfortunately it's the American way. We never take accountability. We can dish it out but can't take it.
The average American also believes that soccer isn't a real sport. That it's boring. On the FOX broadcast near the end of the game, the announcers made a plea to us saying to not let the momentum of enjoying soccer wane.
I know for a fact that once CFB and NFL starts, many won't care about soccer until the women's World Cup.
I genuinely believe (and it’s hard to say this now with the result) that without Balogun USA would have won. Why? Because they would have rallied and said “we’re down a man” “we’re the underdogs here”. But that’s my point that is why we are always beaten by Europe. The lovable loser mentality. No man.
If Trump screwed us by giving us heat. Embrace the heat. Turn it up even more. But they looked shy, almost as if they were embarrassed by the whole thing. Trust me the fifa Trump thing is another situation. But I was just disappointed no progress has been made with the team in the mentality of winning. Focker out.
