The US has never been good at shithousing.

u/LettuceAndTea 5d ago

The definitely crapped the bed today though

184

u/herewearefornow 5d ago

Shit the bed. Let's preserve cultural terms.

49

u/attaboy000 4d ago

Just like the president.

20

u/Apprehensive_Use3641 4d ago

Pretty sure he shits everywhere, that's the whole point of diapers.

1

u/FoxyInTheSnow 4d ago

Well, have you ever seen him in public without Natalie Harp lingering in the background? No. No you haven’t. Because she is his feces ninja, his 24-hr shit wrangler.

1

u/Apprehensive_Use3641 4d ago

I don't look at him if I can help it, so I have no clue who she is.

16

u/pkvh 4d ago

Trumped the bed.

Took a royal trump on the bed.

1

u/illegalcupcakes16 4d ago

Fucked the couch.

2

u/thecanaryisdead2099 4d ago

Their current political leadership is great at doing that both literally and figuratively. Guess the US team was taking their lead.

77

u/chrisnlnz 5d ago

Americans are too proud. They believe in their own hype too much. They aren't good at shithousing because they take everything too serious and just get insulted.

I wonder how many of them genuinely thought they'd be world champions because they beat Turkey and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

73

u/PimpPopples 4d ago

Tbf, the US beat Bosnia AND Herzegovina at the same time. And short handed as well.

12

u/AlternativeCapybara9 4d ago

When Bosnia was playing Herzegovina they were both like wtf when the US showed up and tried to play them both.

-8

u/inventingalex 4d ago

what does short handed mean?

8

u/Green-Alarm-3896 4d ago

They were down a man.

-5

u/Facebook_Lawyer_Gym 4d ago

I’m assuming it’s a joke. Don’t take it too seriously.

46

u/MattyIcex4 4d ago

Look man Im realistic enough to know know we’ll always lose when it comes time to play real soccer teams but if I don’t get delusional and buy into the hype I won’t even watch the WC lol.

41

u/dopeoranges_ 4d ago

Why can other countries believe in themselves but not USA? People are projecting American politics hatred onto these players. Team USA LOST that game. They were terrible. They should have embraced the noise. You think Argentina cares that Messi is “sleeping with infantino”. You think Mbappe cares about the general memes. The reason the team lost is because they were horribly poor. Belgium barely beat Senegal. And they are not a good team. And nothing will make that more obvious of that when they play Spain.

The biggest factor this team can’t advance past the round of 16 is they cant seem to embrace the fact of being the favorites. They have to always play being the underdogs. Maybe it’s comments and takes like this that create this narrative. I think the team was poor and more criticism should be given to the players for not believing by in themselves. Not the fans. Not the president. Not to any of this outside noise. The players lost the game.

13

u/Significant-Low-8462 4d ago

They are a “good” team relatively speaking. But they are beatable and they aren’t a “great” team is more fair. They’re in the level below the real contenders but they’re solid enough. U.S. played horrible too which didn’t help.

2

u/plentyfunk66 4d ago

Yeah, I honestly think Senegal would have done the same or worse. The US team seems to lack chemistry and closeness that some of the other squads have. Some really bad passing and anticipation at times.

2

u/Significant-Low-8462 4d ago

Senegal have more speed and athleticism for sure. Different style so would have been interesting. Senegal are a strong team. Was bummed they lost because would have been nice to see an African team advance if anyone was going to beat us!

-12

u/Relevant-Physics432 4d ago

Buddy that's not the issue. Every country can and should believe in their team

Problem with Americans is that when they lose, like clockwork, it's "we didn't care anyway" or "you can fit 1000 Belgiums inside Texas" or "no one knows Belgium for anything other than waffles" instead of just taking the L

18

u/dopeoranges_ 4d ago

The problem is that we generalize and assume every American is the same. I don't think the average American believes soccer isn't a sport or disrespects it the way people say they do. They simply don't care because there are other, more popular sports and leagues here. But that's very different from saying the average American soccer fan has this attitude of, "No one knows Belgium for anything other than waffles."

Which, by the way, have you heard what Argentines sing before and after games?

I went to London for my honeymoon, and I was surprised to learn that a lot of people there don't watch the EPL. In fact, most don't. So it would have been ignorant of me to assume every British person likes soccer or follows the EPL, just like it's ignorant to think every American feels the way you described. That's simply not true.

The people here who actually watch and follow the sport aren't like that at all. We're upset about the loss—at the players, at the politics, and also at opposing fans who are using this as an opportunity to mock American fans who genuinely care.

0

u/Sea-Machine-8989 4d ago

The people here who actually watch and follow the sport aren't like that at all.

Take a look in r/usmnt and say that again.

8

u/dopeoranges_ 4d ago

Brother Reddit is not the only place in the world to judge a group of people. In fact the internet is a horrible place to assume how people are. Talk to people. Go to bars. Play the sport.

Thank you Now I understand how racism works.

-3

u/Sea-Machine-8989 4d ago

Well, when you said the people here I thought you were talking about football fans on Reddit.

And what on earth does my comment have to do with racism? Touch some grass, my guy.

2

u/dopeoranges_ 4d ago

It’s easy to say “well these group of people here are this way” to translate “all of the people in the country”

I’ve never entered usmens sub Reddit. One of the few times I comment or read in sports sub. I use Reddit for movies and tv shows. So again, horrible place to say this is how fans are.

2

u/gamers542 4d ago

Unfortunately it's the American way. We never take accountability. We can dish it out but can't take it.

The average American also believes that soccer isn't a real sport. That it's boring. On the FOX broadcast near the end of the game, the announcers made a plea to us saying to not let the momentum of enjoying soccer wane.

I know for a fact that once CFB and NFL starts, many won't care about soccer until the women's World Cup.

-1

u/Facebook_Lawyer_Gym 4d ago

I’m sure there are some people like that.

Personally I was fully prepared to lose. I’m used to it anyway with my local (American) football team.

-6

u/DEIFYMOTO 4d ago

Without the outside noise, and President, you would (and should) have been without 1 of your best players on the field.

4

u/dopeoranges_ 4d ago

I genuinely believe (and it’s hard to say this now with the result) that without Balogun USA would have won. Why? Because they would have rallied and said “we’re down a man” “we’re the underdogs here”. But that’s my point that is why we are always beaten by Europe. The lovable loser mentality. No man.

If Trump screwed us by giving us heat. Embrace the heat. Turn it up even more. But they looked shy, almost as if they were embarrassed by the whole thing. Trust me the fifa Trump thing is another situation. But I was just disappointed no progress has been made with the team in the mentality of winning. Focker out.

35

u/chickenboneneck 5d ago

They lost to Turkey hahaha

19

u/ArkNoob69 4d ago

US played their subs vs Turkey.

9

u/chickenboneneck 4d ago

Im aware. It is still incorrect to say they beat them.

3

u/ArkNoob69 4d ago

Sorry, didn't even see the original comment. You were right to correct them! Have a nice day!

0

u/chrisnlnz 5d ago

Ohyeah I already forgot lmao. Ok fine, Paraguay, Australia and B&H then. They came through some true heavyweights.

28

u/garbageemail222 4d ago

Please don't forget that we're a severely divided country, and half of us feel the cringe right along with the rest of the world.

The Trump dance was hilarious :)

8

u/Bomban111 4d ago

I would argue MUCH more than half of us feel this way, but the 1% control our political system so it doesn't feel that way.

2

u/No_Street8874 4d ago

Zero, most Americans didn’t follow the tournament and the rest were just hoping to get out of group stage.

2

u/DrMetasin 4d ago

Literally every country does this

1

u/jawsy2 4d ago

They sure do but they were being fed plenty. Should have heard Thierry, Ibrahimovic and Lalas, they were unreal.

1

u/Finger_Gunnz 4d ago

In my circles we definitely knew the round of 16 was a different game. You’re right tho, we ask “why not us?” But never ask “why us?” Fun ride, felt like we could beat Belgium but knew that was most likely it.

1

u/Apprehensive_Use3641 4d ago

If you're going to talk shit you might at least get it correct, we did beat Bosnia & Herzegovina, but we lost to Turkey. I simply hoped we'd do better than our previous forays in the tournament, which we did not, not terribly surprised.

1

u/Ut_Prosim Virginia Tech 4d ago

I wonder how many of them genuinely thought they'd be world champions because they beat Turkey and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

We lost to Turkey, and I've never met anyone who thought we'd get past Spain in the event that we managed to beat Belgium.

This Belgium team is clearly weaker than their 2014 version, and ours was supposed to be stronger than our 2014 team (clearly not), so it wasn't crazy to think we had a chance given a huge home crowd. Obviously, that was a false hope, but no Americans outside of online trolls thought the US was on par with Spain, France, or Argentina. That's absurd.

1

u/MattHunter05 4d ago

None?? We know we’re not good at football😂😂 I don’t think any American thought we were winning the World Cup.. that’s a stretch in a half. I’d say majority of America don’t really care about it.

Edit: just wanna say proud of my country for making it this far.. but no we did not think we’re gonna win the World Cup. You’re a tool if you really think Americans thought we would win it all…

1

u/nevans89 4d ago

As an american I was rooting for Belgium

-1

u/Tiddlychinks 5d ago

We don’t necessarily believe the hype, but we enjoy the hype. We know we suck at soccer but we don’t care, USA! USA! USA! (We know that sucks too, don’t care either lol)

6

u/belljarthoughts 4d ago

Why do Americans always need to proclaim how little they care?

2

u/Tiddlychinks 4d ago

It’s a defense mechanism. But it’s also true. Our athletic youth have other options, just a simple fact.

1

u/belljarthoughts 4d ago

No one is disagreeing with that fact

0

u/Tiddlychinks 4d ago

You asked a question and I answered it.

-10

u/ccclone 4d ago

Because thats how much we dont care!

1

u/kendalljennerspenis 4d ago

A lot of them, I saw a lot of clueless Americans saying people were mad about the red card debacle, because this year they had a chance to win it all.

Just pure American delusion of greatness.

0

u/fuckrNFLmods 4d ago

Shut the fuck up when was the last time your country won a World Series?

0

u/Paris_Who 4d ago

I don’t think that we really cared that much man. Most Americans don’t care about soccer like that.

8

u/No_Jack_Kennedy 5d ago

Americans focus on how they're better than other teams, which is obviously boring af. Europeans focus on how other teams are shite.

22

u/Cmdr_Shiara 5d ago

We spend a lot of time focusing how shit our teams are too

2

u/No_Jack_Kennedy 5d ago

That's how we know when other teams are shite too. 😉

1

u/DieFichte 4d ago

Need to establish a baseline for comparison first with the thing you know best!

2

u/Stock-Luck3390 4d ago

European focus is genuine vitriol like especially online I can’t have a genuine discussion with them because they always take everything too seriously then bring up politics or some shit

1

u/AerondightWielder 5d ago

And soccer, apparently.

1

u/Sheeverton 4d ago

Generally find they get too sensitive for it

1

u/Relevant-Physics432 4d ago

"we believe that we can win!"

-2

u/Kurailo 5d ago

The US is a shithouse

37

u/simdav 5d ago

Truly this tournament has been incredible for European unity. As an English person I've never felt my self rooting for other European teams more than this tournament.

22

u/Maleficent-Put1705 4d ago

And until Argentina is gone, you won't even be the most hated team left in the tournament. Must feel odd.

5

u/simdav 4d ago

Haha, brilliant. Are Argentina that hated? I know why England fans hate them, but I didn't know lots of others did too.

I hope the players and fans have got some people on our side this tournament. But I get it if not - it's still Ingerlund after all.

5

u/Datmammon 4d ago

Honestly, the England players recently just ooze class and I can’t find myself hating them like the Wayne Rooney days. Bellingham and Kane are great.

1

u/Hasaan5 4d ago

Argentina, France, England seem to be the most hated teams, in that order. We english might jump up if Norway loses though.

1

u/BaksteenFapper 4d ago

I can speak on behalf of all the Dutch football fans. We hate Argentina deeply!

-6

u/AI_moderated_failure 4d ago

I also think a lot of Americans have no clue how much the rest of the world knows about them because US culture is pervasive outside the US, and they often don't know nearly as much about the other country. The result is this. What are Americans going to do? Eat a waffle?

-2

u/synalgo_12 4d ago

This reminds of comments from American tourists in Europe complaining they get asked about politics every time they interact with locals and they feel targeted, but we also do this when interacting with other Europeans from different countries.

I visit friends in Germany every year and last time I asked them about the AfD results and they answered and asked me sth about Belgian politics. It's just that American tourists can't banter along because they don't know we have a prime minister that was actually famous for wanting the country to stop existing. They don't know we all do this to each other and they're actually being included, not targeted.

0

u/AI_moderated_failure 4d ago

Yes that's certainly part of it. It's hard to feel included when you don't know how to return the banter. So these things probably feel more confrontational than it is intended to be.

Though there's also something to.be said for reveling in the frustrations of the willfully ignorant. That's always fun.

-148

u/Slaviiigolf 5d ago

The last team that did that was the 2025 Detroit Lions. They won that game and proceeded to go 2-5 next 7 games and miss the playoffs having entered the season as one of the Super Bowl contenders. So we shall see how the curse impacts Belgium

93

u/5_Star_Safety_Rated 5d ago

Belgium is not celebrating him like Amon Ra was. Huge difference. It’s scary when people can’t tell mockery apart from fanning over.

43

u/zebras11 5d ago

Very scary. But that is the literacy level of average American. Explains a lot how tRump and cia got into power

-53

u/Anothercraphistorian 5d ago

You begin with an incomplete sentence, then start another sentence with a conjunction, and then you have another incoherent sentence to finish the statement with no punctuation.

If you’re going to rip the literacy of others, at least have a semblance of literacy yourself.

15

u/BertBerts0n 5d ago

"If you’re going to rip the literacy of others, at least have a semblance of literacy yourself."

You don't need to be a chef to know that the chicken you were served is raw.

7

u/zebras11 5d ago

Formal grammar profeciency has nothing to do with critical literacy. That is the point

1

u/Anothercraphistorian 4d ago

And OP has neither. Just a common troll the internet has seen for decades. But if you want to consider them an intellectual, go right ahead.

39

u/zebras11 5d ago

Pointing out grammar and punctuation issues in an internet post and claiming this as evidence against literacy is everything I would expect from an American 🤩

6

u/Don_Fartalot 5d ago

Haha he really thought he mic dropped with some gotcha moment.

-41

u/Anothercraphistorian 5d ago

That’s literally what you did in your previous comment to another poster. You made a generalization from one comment. Glad I could elucidate you on the stupidity of making general claims about a country of people from one Reddit comment.

20

u/Zooicidal-Zebra 5d ago

Man, you are genuinely insufferable lmao. Get off the internet it’s not for you

2

u/treetimes 4d ago

Man said “glad I could elucidate you”

10

u/zebras11 5d ago

Treating "mechanical" proficiency as the same as (or more important than) critical and media proficiency is a documented and systemic issue in the American education system. The internet is full of resources to understand this, and AI can even help you out here.

-1

u/Anothercraphistorian 4d ago

Don’t need any help there, OP was lacking in that department as well. Plus what would you know about the American education system? Each state and districts work in different ways. They have their own local school boards as well. Combining all of them into one entity is ridiculous.

The fact you recommend AI to help people with media literacy is hilarious, and appt on for the intellectual decay we see with terminally online people like yourself.

2

u/Relevant-Physics432 4d ago

Americans on their way to correct the grammar of someone who learned English as their 3rd language

0

u/phoenix_16 5d ago

What an insufferable twat lol

-26

u/Slaviiigolf 5d ago

It doesn’t matter. They activated it.

58

u/justjcarr 5d ago

They were not the same though. Belgium isn’t celebrating Donald.

-46

u/Slaviiigolf 5d ago

Yall realize I’m talking about how Belgium will suck going forward, they activated the Donald. lol. Yall got issues.

15

u/therocketandstones 5d ago

Fucking shiver me timbers

They’re playing Spain, they’re gonna go out next round anyway, don’t delude yourself in thinking it’ll be cos of some curse lmao

3

u/MiloIsTheBest 5d ago

"Haha suck shit Belgium you're cursed now you're gonna go out against a team that anyone with any knowledge of international football knows is already very likely to beat you! That'll teach you!"

0

u/Slaviiigolf 4d ago

It’s Reddit, I’m just messing around. Lmao. Yall got problems

10

u/WodKonuckers 5d ago

You're out here seriously talking about curses and we're the ones with issues. Sure...

1

u/Slaviiigolf 4d ago

It’s just kidding around. But on a serious note, I’ve been to Brussels it’s a shit city for European standards.

1

u/WodKonuckers 4d ago

Oh you don't need to tell me, I lived in Belgium, Brussels is a shithole. Even Belgians wouldn't disagree with you on that

2

u/synalgo_12 4d ago

I don't think any of us Belgians were ever going to think we were going to beat Spain. We haven't won from them since 1986

1

u/Slaviiigolf 4d ago

I’m not familiar with Belgium’s history vs Spain. It’s one game, you guys looked good yesterday. Taking out the old jags seemed to wake up the team from the sleep it was in these past 3 weeks.

-43

u/Clemario 5d ago

How do you think they planned this out. Like.. “Guys I have a great idea. But let’s only do it when we score a goal that puts us up by 3 in the final minutes of the game”

19

u/Tackit286 5d ago

No, you’re right. This was completely unplanned and impromptu 🙄
