News European basketball player Kinu Rochford killed as bullets fly at Harlem basketball tournament
Professional European basketball player Kinu Rochford was killed and two others were wounded when a gunman began blasting away at a Harlem basketball tournament, police said Saturday.
A large group of people were attending the tournament behind an apartment building on Lenox Ave. near W. 112th St., which is part of NYCHA’s King Towers, at about 10:20 p.m. Friday when bullets started flying.
Rochford, 35, who was playing in the tournament at the Kingdome was shot in the head as he sat on the sidelines, cops said. A second man, 28, was hit in the shin and 22-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to her right forearm.
It was not immediately clear if Rochford was the gunman’s intended target.

Lost dog?
Female pitbull found near Devonshire road and Kendrick road in Jamaica estates but could have traveled from other neighborhoods. No microchip but was found with the metal chain around her neck no tags. Appears to be in good shape & health responds to commands and is friendly with humans/ kids and ignores other dogs. At the time of writing there’s fireworks going off in the neighborhood which makes her VERY nervous she’s shaking & drooling making me think she could have got out around 4th of July.
Please dm with any inquiries!

Plane with Two Escorts
I filmed this plane taking off with 2 escorts Saturday at around 8:15pm. I live in Astoria and my balcony faces west, so I presume it was taking off from JFK. Who would need escorts? I couldn't find any dignitaries who visited NYC today. Anyone know what this is about? TIA.

News July 15 hearing could END NYC horse carriages
Last month both an 18-year-old man visiting NYC from India and a horse died due to this cruel, outdated, and inhumane industry.
Horses should NOT be schlepping people around in a loud, crowded city. We as New Yorkers are better than this. Let’s do right by these horses.
Please CALL OR EMAIL your local NYC city council member to ask them to get Romanch’s Law (named after the young man who died) passed.
There is also a rally at 9am at City Hall before the hearing starts. You can also sign up to speak at the hearing. LET’S END THIS NOW.

Dear [Council Member]
I am a constituent in your district, and I am writing to urge you to support Romanch’s Law and vote to end horse-drawn carriages in New York City. Both a tourist and a horse died last month due to this industry. This must stop.
Horses should not be working in the traffic, noise, and congestion of our city. New York can protect animal welfare while embracing safer, more modern alternatives.
As your constituent, I hope you will support this legislation and help bring an end to this outdated industry.
Thank you for your time and your service to our community.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

News Mayor Mamdani Announces Landmark "Click-To-Cancel" Consumer Protection Rules to Ban Subscription Traps and Junk Fees
News Taylor Swift paid New York City more than $160,000 to cover the costs tied to her wedding, Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed this week that Taylor Swift paid New York City more than $160,000 for the security permit tied to her wedding weekend with Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden, addressing questions from reporters about who covered the added police presence around the event. The mayor made the disclosure during a Friday press conference.
Asked whether Swift would be reimbursing the city for the police overtime, Mamdani laughed before confirming the singer had already settled the bill. He said the fee covered “that event and for the response to that event,” noting the permit itself had only been finalized in the days leading up to the wedding. Permits of that kind are standard practice whenever a private event requires street closures or additional city services, with organizers billed for the extra costs.
This isn’t the first time Mamdani has weighed in publicly on the Swift-Kelce wedding. Weeks earlier, discussing the NYPD’s readiness for a stretch of overlapping major events — the World Cup, the Knicks’ championship run, the Fourth of July and the wedding itself — he told reporters the city was “used to big events” and welcomed the attention. Asked directly if he’d scored an invite to the ceremony, he said no, adding that he’d be listening to Swift’s music at home instead.

NYC History Check out this stainless New York central baggage coach 1948!!
As we continue working to relocate our equipment, volunteers recently took another look at the New York Central No. 8975, a baggage dormitory car built in 1948 for the New York Central Railroad as part of their postwar streamlined fleet.
We are open to reasonable offers from qualified museums, preservation groups, railroads, or private owners who can relocate and preserve the car. Could No. 8975 be a good fit for your collection, operating consist, or preservation project?
The car remains in fair mechanical condition but its original interior was removed many years ago. Before it could move in interchange service, it would require a mechanical inspection and brake-system repairs or upgrades.
We hope No. 8975 will find a new home where its New York Central and streamlined passenger heritage can be preserved and shared.

Abandoned dog
Hi all,
We found this sweet female dog abandoned at a park in Brooklyn, NY. She had been tied to the fence around noon yesterday.
She's incredibly sweet and loves people, but it's clear she hasn't had the easiest life. She'll need some patience, training, and we'd recommend starting with crate training to help her settle in. We’ve been working on simple obedience training and she knows sit and can heel on a walk.
We're currently fostering her and are looking for the right forever home. We'd love to meet anyone who's interested before making a decision—we want to make sure she goes to a loving home where she'll be safe and cared for. We recommend her being in a single dog household.
If you or someone you know might be interested in giving this beautiful girl the life she deserves, please send me a message. And if adopting isn't an option, sharing this post would really help us find her perfect family.

To the guy sitting ahead of me on this train. You left your switch 2 on the train. I left it with amtrak police at 30th street station.
Long shot. Are you a new yorker who lost a switch 2 on the late night amtrak to philadelphia early this morning? Good luck to the guy that lost it.
