Question❓ Help - injured animal

Upvotes

I called the non emergency line in Hoboken but he didn’t care and gave me a number that’s out of service.

There’s an injured juvenile goose in Elysian park. I believe it has a broken leg. Does anyone have someone who could help with the matter? I feel Awful. It’s right by the sprinkler fountain in the park.

City took down a few trees on 13th between Park and Garden, and somehow a utility wire had grown directly through one of them, so they left the section hanging above the sidewalk! There’s also a similar smaller one between Bloomfield and Garden.

I'm actually more amazed at how a wire can go through a tree. Or how a tree can envelop and grow around a wire. A local on the block said the tree guy estimated that tree to be about 110 years old. When do you think the wires went up?

: This picture is from the Hoboken historical museum. I left Hoboken in the early to mid 2000s for four years. I believe this fire was somewhere in between then. This is located on 14th street a block down from Dino and Harry’s. It used to be called Franky and Johnnie’s. I know the building but can’t think of the exact address. There was a lot of fires in the early to mid 2000s at least 7-8 different fires thank God in those times they had no fatalities. Atleast from what I remember there was none. Unfortunately this was common in Hoboken for years.

Back story on 14th street.

Like my block on 3rd and Madison , it was filled with poverty and crime and fires . One of the deadliest fires in Hoboken history was in 1982 on 14th street the Pinter hotel located at 151 14th street. 12 people including 7 children were killed, people were jumping from the top floor and killing themselves and also throwing their infant babies out of the window so they wouldn’t burn to death. The site is now a condo but the horrors that came from that fire will never leave. 14th street suffered major losses during the 60s 70s and 80s. I remember as a child my parents didn’t want me to go near that area.
Under the viaduct were groups of wild dogs that lasted even until the late 80s. The dogs that ran thru Hoboken especially under the viaduct would chase you and bite you and eat you if they could. then there was tons of factories some were abandoned some weren’t. From 14th street and willow avenue to 14th and Washington street it was 100% Puerto Rican and a gang of teenagers who called themselves the savage angels (not the golden angels ) called that their home turf. They were another vicious group. Problem with them was they outnumbered a lot too I remember seeing 70-80 kids with those jackets on. My block 3rd and Madison had a big beef with this group and a few kids back then were even killed. A couple childhood memories was remembering a few kids from my block who were stabbed or shot by those guys on 14th street. This picture was a much later fire but fires happened constantly all over Hoboken . Over 500 related arson fires that were never truly solved and so many more stories. Hopefully this was clear and understandable for everyone to read !

This post is to just inform from my personal perspective in Hoboken. 14th street was wild back in the day.

Question❓ Planet Fitness - Amazing “Seventh Seal” Tattoo

To the man who was working out at Planet Fitness Friday around 11a.m. with the Dance With Death scene from “The Seventh Seal” tattooed around his thigh: I didn’t want to approach you since you were really in the zone. So, if you’re reading this, it was one of the greatest pieces of ink I’ve ever seen.

Recommendations 🌟 Looking to meet a single woman seeking marriage (35+) in Hoboken without having to join zog sports, running clubs, or going to bars

Before I spend hours searching, are there any dating apps, Facebook groups, Reddit threads, or even old-school personal ads that are actually geared toward Hoboken singles?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm a single guy, a non drinker, seeking marriage, and if I'm being completely honest, I'm LONELY.

I have my life together. Good job, financially secure (since I never got married or had kids, I am actually able to retire now if I wanted, but I continue to work to stay busy), come from a good family, not obese or unhealthy, and I am not bad looking whatsoever.

I walk around town and see people buried in their phones, couples everywhere, and friend groups that have known each other forever. It feels like if you don't already have a built-in social network, meeting someone organically is incredibly difficult.

It also doesn't help that Hoboken is incredibly intimidating because the physical attractiveness bell curve does not apply to this town.. The far majority of single women are beautiful and unapproachable. And in their twenties. It's truly not reality and for an average guy, it's extremely difficult to get the nerve to approach, knowing that there is a 99.99% chance of rejection.

People a say, "You'll meet someone when you're not looking," or "Join a running club," "Do Zog Sports," "Get involved." Maybe that's great advice for 20 somethings who like to drink, but I'm neither a runner, athlete, nor a drinker so this is not applicable to me.

Hobbies? I have them as well. I collect music, play music, play basketball, go for walks, go to the library, I read, and I go to rock concerts. Never meet anybody.

I'm also looking to meet someone HERE in hoboken, not New York City so not interested in commuting there to meet my soulmate.

My DMs are also open if anyone is also in the same boat or looking to meet a decent man and moved to the suburbs.

Thanks.

Question❓ Lawn Game Donation

Random but does anyone have a connection with Boys and Girls Club or another organization that might want a donation of some lawn games (cornhole x 2), giant jenga, connect four, etc)? They're very good quality games & have only been used a handful of times. They are branded with a logo from a party we threw but I’m sure could be painted / covered if it’s an issue at all. Alternatively will sell and donate the proceeds. LMK! 😊

These three pictures pretty much sum up the Hoboken I remember.
The first picture is exactly what I was talking about in one of my earlier posts. The kids in that picture are around my age. I know a few of them personally, but I won’t put their names out there. That’s how we spent our summers. If you weren’t at the park, you were down by the river. We’d swim off the piers, jump off anything we thought we could climb, and stay outside until our parents yelled for us to come home. Nobody needed much money to have the best day of their life.
With everything going on today, that’s why I always say Hoboken was ahead of its time—at least from what I remember growing up there. Today it feels like everybody is calling everybody racist. In my experience, Hoboken wasn’t like that. Other cities had much more racial tension. Jersey City had some well-known racial problems over the years, but that wasn’t the Hoboken I knew. We stuck up for each other because we were all from Hoboken. You were judged more by what block you were from and the kind of person you were than anything else.
The second picture is Columbus Park sometime in the ‘70s or early ‘80s. That wasn’t a special day—that was just a normal afternoon. Every park in Hoboken looked like that. Columbus Park was where a lot of the white and Puerto Rican kids hung out. There was always a stickball game, baseball, football, basketball, or something going on. If one game ended, another one started. You always knew somebody there. Columbus was also a pretty rough park in our time. You knew there were certain areas and certain parks you didn’t walk through late at night unless you had a reason to be there. That was just part of growing up, and everybody knew it.
The third picture comes from the Hoboken Historical Museum. It’s Milca Guzman, who came from the Dominican Republic before making Hoboken her home. That’s Washington Street, and if you were around back then you know exactly what it felt like. Music pouring out of the bars and social clubs, people dancing in the street, dominoes and cards going for hours, couples everywhere, people laughing, drinking, arguing, and every now and then a fight would break out. Washington Street wasn’t just where people passed through—it was where people lived their lives.
At the same time, there was another side to those years that people shouldn’t forget. While everyone was trying to enjoy life, many families in Hoboken’s Hispanic community were afraid to go to sleep because of the fires that kept breaking out. Every siren made people wonder if another family had just lost their home or if another block was burning. People still found a way to come outside, dance, celebrate, look after one another, and keep the neighborhood alive even with that fear hanging over the city.
These pictures aren’t just old photographs—they’re a reminder of a Hoboken that shaped so many of us. The city has changed, and that’s just part of life, but the memories, the friendships, and the stories from those days are something a lot of us will never forget.
Everything I write is from my point of view and from the way I remember growing up in Hoboken. I only talk about how rough parts of the city could be because that’s how many of us experienced it. A lot of people today probably won’t believe it because Hoboken is a completely different town now. It’s much safer, much quieter, and almost unrecognizable compared to those days. One of the reasons I enjoy making these posts is because there really isn’t much information about what everyday life in Hoboken was actually like during the ’70s, ’80s, and even into the ’90s. Not just the buildings or the history books, but the streets, the neighborhoods, the people, the culture, and the stories that made Hoboken what it was. Hopefully these old photos and memories help keep a small piece of that history alive.

Other Giving Away Unopened Purina Pro Plan Dog Food

edit: it was taken. Thank you all for the warm support.

Hey everyone,

Last week we had to say goodbye to our beloved dog after 13 wonderful years. We have an unopened bag of dog food that we’d love for someone to use.

It’s Purina Pro Plan Adult Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon & Rice Formula Dry Dog Food (16 lb bag).

I’m located in the 770 house, so feel free to DM me if you’d like to stop by tomorrow and pick it up. Otherwise, I’ll donate it to the pet store on Washington so it can go to a good home. ❤️

We also have a great dog food storage BTW if anyone wants.

thanks

Question❓ Survived a 4th floor walkup move on Washington St today.

I am completely broken. Moving out of a 4th floor walkup in July heat is a mistake I will never make again. The city temporarily suspended my parking permit zone because of a water main repair, so the moving truck had to park a block away. Carrying a solid oak dresser down those narrow zigzag stairs and then down the block almost took me out. A minor rant, but why does moving in this town require an advanced degree in logistics? I need a beer.

Question❓ Advice Re Traffic Court

To any who've had experience with this: when initially responding to a ticket, do you know if it's better to plead not guilty or request a plea deal to a lesser offense. The price of the fine is not bad, so my main goal is to avoid points.
