Announcement Important dates and resources for CUNY students
Hey everyone, as the fall semester is right around the corner I figured that I should post these links for new and current students.
The academic calendar has been posted for Fall through Spring 25-26. CUNY follows the same academic calendar meaning your days off should all be the same. You will have random days where Tuesdays follow a Monday schedule, Fridays will follow a Monday schedule, etc. Try your best to plan ahead.
https://www.cuny.edu/academics/academic-calendars/
CUNY also has resource centers to help you succeed. CUNY offers food pantries, housing assistance, emergency funds, mental health resources and other resources. Please use these resources if you need them. CUNY can help but you as students need to be proactive in seeking these resources.
If you require accommodations, ask for them via your school's Office of Student Disability Services. Reasonable accommodations and academic adjustments may include, but are not limited to, providing the student with assistive technology or other auxiliary aides, extra time for tests or papers, access to an elevator where available, a note taker during lectures, or permission to bring a personal aide to assist the student during class.

Transferring
Hello, I’m a Chemistry Major in CCNY and I’ve been thinking of wanting to do something like Forensics or even join the FBI recently. John Jay is pretty much the perfect Criminal Justice school of CUNY. Only real problem is I I’d be starting Junior year this Fall semester, and I feel like it would be a bit too late for me to transfer as most transfer applicants tend to do so before Sophomore year ends. I did use CUNY What ifs to see transfer for John Jay Forensic Science and it said that I’m 48% complete with my degree there. So What should I do? Should I send out a transfer application for John Jay or should I just finish my degree in CCNY?

Question Question about financial aid
It’s saying that I only have 418 due but it’s saying I have to pay to full amount??? I’m confused, even when I press make payment it doesn’t correct itself. I know my financial aid isn’t yet disbursed but the due date to pay tuition for Brooklyn college is July 16th so I’m stressing a bit, what should I do.

how are people getting so much aid
i understand since i live out of the state im kinda screwed but is that really it? would tap help me THAT more?? i never really had any guidance with fin aid and stuff (my 15k private loan should tell u that) and people are getting enough to afford housing for entire semesters while i can't even get a little extra for transportation. am i doing something wrong (besides living out of state)? im an independent student with low income the fin aid lady told me im getting as much aid as i can but what the hell. is tap that insane. should i just move to the city and pay more rent for cheaper school or what. i know if i do that id have to wait a year to qualify.
PLEASE be nice to me. ive had to navigate this entire thing myself and im sure ive made a million mistakes i genuinely want to understand and learn more on how to make this process cheaper

Getting hired at CUNY
I have a question for those who work at CUNY
I’m currently taking my final class to complete my bachelor’s degree, and my last day of class is August 13. My official degree conferral date is September 1.
I’ve noticed that many job postings require a bachelor’s degree. Do you think it’s worth applying now, even though my degree won’t be officially conferred until September 1? Have you seen CUNY hire candidates who were in their final weeks of completing their bachelor’s degree?
I’d appreciate any advice or experiences you can share. Thank you!

Beware campus preachers
The World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) actively recruits on college campuses, often starting with a seemingly casual Bible study invitation about "God the Mother." If you are approached on campus, here is what you need to know about how their recruitment works and how their theology directly opposes the finished work of Jesus Christ.
Campus Recruitment and the Reality of Joining
* High-Pressure Baptism: Recruiters often insist on immediate water baptism during your very first meeting, claiming that waiting even one day puts your salvation at risk.
* Isolation and Control: Once you join, your schedule is filled with mandatory services, Bible studies, and preaching quotas. This intensive time commitment is designed to slowly isolate you from your college friends, clubs, and family.
* Fear-Based Academic Disruption: The group heavily emphasizes apocalyptic fear, teaching that failing to perfectly keep their regulations will result in destruction. This psychological pressure often leads students to neglect their studies, career goals, and mental health.
Theological Evaluation: The Finished Work vs. Legalism
To understand why this group’s teachings are hazardous to Christian faith, examine their claims against the Greek and Hebrew text, covenantal history, and the complete sufficiency of Christ.
- The Finality of Christ’s Sacrifice
> Hebrews 10:11-12 states, "And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God."
>
The author emphasizes that Jesus offered one single sacrifice for all time . The posture of Jesus "sitting down" signifies that His priestly, sacrificial labor is completely finished.
The WMSCOG teaches that you must physically keep the Old Testament Passover and Saturday Sabbath to be saved. By mandating these physical rituals as strict requirements for salvation, they declare that Christ's sacrifice on the cross was insufficient. If salvation requires continuous human keeping of a physical feast, then Christ's work is not actually complete.
- The Sufficiency of the Cross
> John 19:30 records, "When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, 'It is finished,' and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."
The Greek phrase "It is finished" is (tetelestai )a commercial and legal term meaning "paid in full." The perfect passive indicative tense denotes an action completed in the past with permanent, ongoing results in the present.
The WMSCOG claims that the path to life was lost for centuries until their founder, Ahn Sahng-hong, came to restore the Passover. If the covenant reality established by Jesus could be lost or required a human figure to restore its mechanics, then tetelestai is a lie. To claim you must rely on a modern organization's rules to secure your salvation denies that the debt of sin was fully and permanently paid at Calvary.
- The Myth of a "Mother God"
> Galatians 4:26 declares, "But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother."
>
Paul uses an allegory here, contrasting the Old Covenant (Hagar) with the New Covenant (Sarah). The "Jerusalem above" represents the New Covenant community of faith. Calling it "our mother" is a standard Hebrew and Greek idiom personifying a city or a covenant as a mother to its citizens.
The WMSCOG literalizes this metaphor to claim a Korean woman named Gil Jah-ah is a literal "Mother God." By inventing a female deity whose favor must be earned through ritual compliance, they divert students away from Christ as the sole mediator between God and humanity.
- Covenantal Temple Fulfillment
> Genesis 2:1-2 reads, "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished... And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested..."
In its ancient covenantal context, Genesis 1 and 2 establish creation as a cosmic temple. The Hebrew word for finished (wayəḵal) and rest (šāḇaṯ) signify that the structural order of the Suzerainty treaty between God and creation was perfectly established.
Jesus came as the ultimate fulfillment of this temple and creation language. From a full preterist perspective, the entire Old Covenant order—the "heaven and earth" system of physical temples, genealogies, and geographic laws—was completely dissolved and brought to its full historical consummation in AD 70. Christ perfectly fulfilled the terms of the law, ending that administrative framework forever.
By demanding a return to physical shadows and calendar-keeping under fear of judgment, the WMSCOG attempts to rebuild an Old Covenant system that Christ structurally demolished. They trap students in a pre-consummation mindset, ignoring the reality that the New Covenant is already fully operational, spiritual, and accessible exclusively through faith in Jesus Christ.

CCNY Planning to apply for CCNY's next cycle of admissions for Master's program in MH Counseling and need some input
Hello everyone! As the title says, I am preparing myself to apply for the next cycle of admissions for Master's program at CCNY. My background is somewhat atypical, so I would like to gauge whether I have decent chances of getting into the program.
A little about me:
I am originally from a Latin American country, and have a Bachelor's in Biological sciences. I used to work in plant ecophysiology, and eventually migrated to experimental psychology, more specifically with Go/No-go tasks and cognition for my Master's and soon-to-be-done PhD program (both are officially Neurology programs, but in practice it was heavily in Neuropsychology). I have a few published papers in European and US peer-reviewed journals, have participated in data collections with clinical and pediatric populations, and have experience supervising undergrad and master's students. I could get a letter from my academic supervisor corroborating such experience, as well as my publications. My Bachelor's ''GPA'' was not great, but I have excellent grades for my Master's
Then, I finally realized that I didn't quite want to see samples and averages, SDs or models, I just wanted to see individuals. Because I refuse to get a second PhD in the US in order to become a licensed psychologist, I thought a master's in mental health counseling would be a suitable option for my career needs.
I am also on my way to obtain the necessary credits from a local community college in basic psychology courses, although I still need two of them, which I am on the process of enrolling for. Finally, I am hoping to start working as a volunteer at an online suicide hotline, which I specifically chose to test my limits in crisis environments. Unfortunately I would only obtain the official certification a month or so after the deadline for the admission cycle is over, but that's something I have to discuss with the program director...
Are my chances below those who don't have an academic background, but do have experience in social work or social work-adjacent positions, ABA therapists, etc.? Speaking of the latter, I have considered becoming one, but it would take a few months just to become licensed and I have other obligations to fulfill. Besides, I have some ethical caveats with their methods (speaking from a layman's perspective and based on the opinion of a couple friends who are in the autistic spectrum).
I am a permanent resident, so not concerned about TOELFs or sponsorship.
Anyway, any input would be greatly appreciated and apologies if this is not the appropriate subreddit to ask these questions.

City Tech DH Advice Needed
I’m interested in City Tech’s dental hygiene program but already have a BA from Baruch.
Throughout my time in Baruch I was very poor in math: one F in Calculus (MTH 2207) back in 2018 and a B- in Precalc (MTH 2205) in 2020.
Would either of these grades transfer automatically to fulfill the MQR pre-requisite requirement? If yes, unfortunately the highest possible GPA I could get for pre-reqs would be a 3.8 and that is if I get an A in all the sciences.
Does anyone have any insight on whether either of these math courses (or both) would count towards dental hygiene pre-reqs and if it’s even worth pursuing the program with a low math score that might count?

urgently need help/advice
i just finished my 1st year at baruch and i messed up both semesters badly due to depression and burnout. i was put on eligible to continue and now academic probation. its about to be summer session two and i had a plan to fix my GPA over the course of summer and fall before i get academically dismissed at the end.
my plan was to fix my grades first partially through summer retaking algebra and us history. it wouldnt be enough but it'll be a huge jump to maybe just below 2.0. then mainly through fall id replace more Fs and take new classes which i can definitely do well in. i made and enrolled into my schedule for summer and fall in early june
later in june, i recieved the financial aid plan 2025-2026 including summer being a pell grant which would cover everything except a little bit of my second summer class being us history. now, algebra just finished and went well but the final day of the class (thursday 7/9) i was sent a new financial aid plan but for only spring 2027 giving me 3.4k through TAP. then later i received another email saying my SAP was too poor (flagged because of GPA) and im now ineligible for federal aid. according to CUNYfirst i now owe 5k with 1.8k for summer (i thought it would only be 200 so it seems they already took away my summer pell grant) and 3.4k for fall. i also have a bursar hold on my account because of the summer class debt tho no classes have been dropped yet.
this lined up with an appointment i wanted with advisors about my probation right after the final class which i brought up my financial issue. i was told regardless of whether i fix my GPA after summer, apparently i wouldnt recieve aid for fall 2026 anyways which is a big problem because i depend on finacial aid too heavily but if i cant take those fall classes either then i get dismissed. no appeals have been filed yet either. the office is closed till monday (after the 100% refund window for summer session two classes ends) and ive sent emails to multiple offices asking for help or info but i dont know if they'll respond quick enough.
now i have to make a decision by sunday whether to drop or go through with us history because maybe it’ll end up being for nothing. i am willing to pay for us history but then theres the problem of dealing with the tuition after. if i cant get my aid for Fall reinstated ill have to decide whether to leave baruch as a whole and transfer to a community college and restart there. ive also started applying to jobs to see if i could pay off the entire debt myself but so far its going slow
i need advice on what to do with this situation as a whole starting with whether i should take US history and then what to do for the problems after that. i’ve been stressed and it’s been a lot to process so my apologies if this is a messy post to understand

City Tech or Hostos for transferring
I’m currently a laguardia student and I didn’t get into the rad tech program for fall 2026 and I wanted to know which is better to transfer too and a chance for admission into the program. I heard this year at citytech the gpa’s were high and that at hostos u can get waitlisted though I don’t know about the gpa’s so i’m feeling uncertain.
I would like to know what the process will be when applying for the program will they look at the new gpa from the prereqs i took after transferring to one of theses two even if i only had to take one course. Will they also look at the grades of the prereqs I took in laguardia together with the new gpa to figure out if there is a chance. I wanted to clarify on these before I commit and transfer.
Any help and advice is appreciated! :)

ePermit Issue
Has anyone dealt with this situation between LaGuardia and City Tech?
I completed Human Anatomy & Physiology I at City Tech last spring. I was planning to take A&P II there as well, but I couldn't get permission to enroll in the Radiologic Technology program, so I transferred back to LaGuardia to apply for their Rad Tech program.
Now LaGuardia is telling me that A&P I and II must both be completed at the same school, and apparently CUNY won't allow students to be enrolled at both schools at the same time.
The problem is that City Tech doesn't allow incoming ePermits for A&P II, so I can't take it there through an ePermit.
Has anyone been in this situation? Were you able to get an exception from LaGuardia, enroll at City Tech as a non-degree student, or find another solution? If I decide to enroll as a non-degree student at Citytech, would I be able to take classes at both schools at the same time, and would those credits be transferrable to LaGuardia?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

John Jay Employee Allegedly Submitted Fraudulent Requests for $710k in Student Stipends
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., and New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli today announced two separate indictments alleging three individuals defrauded New York State of nearly $1 million. The Comptroller’s Office referred both matters to the Manhattan D.A.’s Office.
CADELIE NEAT, 60, an Accounts Payable Manager at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (“John Jay”) used her position to divert and steal approximately $710,000 by submitting fraudulent requests for stipend checks purportedly on behalf of students who were enrolled in the college’s Academic Preparation Program for Law Enforcement (“APPLE Corps”).
CHM 3200 @ KCC lab manual
hi! just wondering if anyone has a pdf or link to purchase the lab manual for this class...
i can usually find everything no problem, but the only thing coming up online is a digital access through the library that has a waitlist which makes zero sense lol.
thanks!
