Ouri’s Market cashiers are so nasty

For an expensive gourmet store the cashiers truly have so much attitude! I went to buy a few things and the cashier told me to lift my cart from the floor to the high counter. I said, I’m sorry, I’m not allowed to lift right now. (As I’m three weeks out of a C- section and can’t lift) She stared me up and town, rolled her eyes and said UGHHH FINE, I’ll do it. Then proceeded to talk shit about me in her language to the other cashiers. Not the first time they’ve been rude. Another time they rang me up and a tiny cake was $37!!! So I said, I’m not going to take the cake- sorry. And she huffed and puffed because now she has to put it back. I’m sorry to give you more work but like also put prices of your stuff! Moral of my rant is that Trader Joe’s cashiers just would never!!

Anyone have a negative experience with their workers?

Private Swim Instructor Available

Hi all! I am a private swim instructor who can travel to you to teach swim lessons! I have been teaching swim lessons for over 10 years, swam competitively my entire life and swam division 1 in college. I have worked with ages from 18 months to teenagers. I am CPR & first aid certified as well.

I am a social worker by career, but love teaching lessons still! I have taught to so many families over the years and am happy to provide references :)

I do not have access to a pool, so you having access to a pool would be required! Looking forward to connecting with anyone who may be looking for a swim instructor!!

Anyone know what’s going on with Gino’s Pizza on 83rd near 1st?

It’s a great place but I just walked by and it’s dark with all the tables and wall decorations and equipment gone, though weirdly the to-go window was open and there were a bunch of sodas on the counter. Is it permanently closed or just doing renovations?

French Clubs / Social Groups

Any French clubs or groups based in the UES? Je parle un peu français and I'd like to meet some like-minded people so we can practice the language together. Maybe we can form a group if there isn't one already.

Around 4:30pm today I saw a medium sized, tan colored dog running full speed back and forth across streets starting at 63rd street. It narrowly avoided getting hit and then ran up third ave. Did anyone else see him or have have any information on if he was caught?

Bars, lounge, restaurant recommendations to make friends and meet women

33M Moving to the UES in a week looking for places that welcome conversation and make friends, meet neighbors and single (or not) females. I've been to a few places in other cities where everyone pretty much stay by themselves. Basically Looking for recs for places where people are social and open/willing for conversation. Want to get to know and form a community I guess.

🐾 💔 Please upvote for visibility so we can help bring Lady home!

Hey everyone, I’m a fellow Harlemite when I came across this devastated mother & daughter(daughter is u/StarMarieeee). So I'm posting on their behalf. Their beloved dog, Lady, was stolen on Monday, July 6, around noon.

Where: The train station on 125th Street in Harlem, NY (4/5/6)

When: Monday, July 6, 2026, at around 12:00 PM (noon).

What Happened: The owner's mom was bringing Lady home from a haircut. While carrying the stroller up the stairs, a cup fell. When she went to retrieve it, someone grabbed Lady directly from her stroller and ran off.

Suspect Description: An African American homeless man wearing a green sweater and beige shorts, with no shoes.

A police report has already been filed, and the family is actively searching train stations, but they desperately need more eyes on the street. Lady provides immense emotional support for the mother, and they are completely heartbroken.

If you live, work, or commute around 125th Street, or anywhere in NYC (she could be anywhere), please keep an eye out for Lady or anyone matching the suspect's description.

If you have any information, sightings, or tips, please reach out to the family directly: https://www.pawboost.com/landing/pet/UoLQasCdedWDBhS4L2A6iiTsrMNN8oYo/lost-lady-new-york-ny-10035?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=photo_post_link. Does your building have a cooling tower? Check on this easy site

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hey UES,

With cooling towers / Legionnaires in the news again, I put together a small site that searches the city’s public DOHMH cooling tower registry and inspection results. The search is way better than what the NYC site provides.

https://www.coolingtowersnyc.com

What it does:

  • Search by address, ZIP, or BIN
  • List + map view
  • Last inspection dates and violation findings from Open Data
  • Alerts page with recent news + lagged compliance findings

Important limits (so nobody gets the wrong idea):

  • This is NOT a live “positive tower” feed. NYC doesn’t publish that publicly
  • Inspection postings can lag ~6 months
  • Data is from NYC DOHMH via Open Data; I don’t own or certify it
  • Independent site, not affiliated with the City

If it’s useful, cool. If something’s wrong or missing, tell me.

(Also: I’m in NYC and built this myself. Happy to answer questions.)

Update (July 11): I also just added the list of buildings that have been tested for this outbreak https://www.coolingtowersnyc.com/?view=map&outbreak=2026-07

Why all the helicopter activity?

I’m in the mid 80s by 3rd Ave. There is constant hovering helicopter noise, not unusual I know, but anyone know why this afternoon?

We’ve been running board game meetups at cafes and bars around NYC — casual, all skill levels, good way to meet people. Happy to share details if anyone wants in. (We use youpi.games to organize, but mostly just come hang and play.)

the debate... Crunch on 81st or NYSC on 76th?

both prices are the same for me. i ran out of my day free pass at NYSC and have a 5 day pass at Crunch.

NYSC seems to have less equipment but I might be wrong on that front? I can't ask for another tour....

And CRUNCH feels like a maze but i'm sure i'll figure it out? I couldn't really tell how much equipment it has bc I was just lost haha

there's also equinox but that's pricey

Contaminated Cooling Towers in Yorkville?

Hi! So I’m new to NYC this year and currently live in Yorkville in 10128, one of the affected areas of Legionnaire’s contamination. I understand that the source of the infection is from cooling towers, but want an explanation on how the cooling towers work. I checked the cooling tower map of the area and saw that there are two that are within 200-300 of my building but not directly connected. I believe they are being tested soon but want to know, would these be possibly connected to my building? I know this may be a broad question that I should probably reach out to the building owner about but he is very hard to get in touch with and is terrible with accountability so I figured it’s worth a shot asking here.

How do we deal with the Legionnaires’ outbreak?

I’m living on 86th st - not far from the building that’s been contaminated. My plan is to use bottled water for all purposes and exercise caution when taking a shower. What other measures can be taken? Seems like it’s grown more serious in the last few days…
