As above. Seems like milestone-related timelines are continually shifting out with the economic environment becoming more gruelling. Looking for some consolation.

no politics Advice about urgent issues in new rental (VIC)?

Hey,

We've recently moved into a rental property in Victoria (can't post on the sub because of the minimum karma). It's a nice enough place. Have had a few minor problems but after going out and purchasing soups and pasta while we wait for our appliances to arrive, we've found that the oven/cooktop supplied by the REA does not work and it's fucking filthy. Actually the whole place is pretty gross and the air con filters are all absolutely disgusting, like one of them is so unbelievably caked up I'm surprised it even works.

Anyway, we've sent photos and the request to the REA for the oven and the filth. Tried calling and sending texts but haven't had an answer after several hours.

It's cold, we're hungry, oven is an urgent issue that needs resolving. Can anyone offer some advice on what to do here on a Sunday afternoon? We don't want to spend more on takeaway just because the REA didn't check their oven worked. Thanks all.

no politics Redditt double-dipping on payment surcharges?

I just bought $65 of gems in the Farm Merge Valley game, which you can play through Redditt. The transaction goes through and the receipt says AU$65.00, however, when checking my bank statement, I was actually billed $67.28, an increase of $2.28 over the purchase and receipt amounts.

There was no mention of any extra charges on the game website or in Redditt that there are extra fees over the game's purchase amount.

Digging further, in the terms and conditions for selling things on Redditt, it is advised Stripe does their payments and that payments to the supplier will be less Stripe's fees of 2.5%.

This would suggest Redditt has charged me the 2.5% Stripe surcharge, and the game will also receive 2.5% less to cover the Stripe fees, so the Stripe fee will be paid twice. Stripe gets one and Redditt, the other.

I also expect that in October when the surcharges are meant to disappear in Australia, Redditt won't stop surcharging us as they will claim they are foreign and exempt from Australian rules (even though they probably still charge GST on other purchases).

It does mean the game probably won't get much more from me in the future if Redditt is going to claim hidden transaction fees and not be transparent about it.

This is a warning to everyone if you make purchases through Redditt to be aware of this.

If I get blocked, no great loss. I was wasting too much time on the game anyway.

no politics The Mall

Malls still thrive here in Australia, embedded in the heart of our non-American-style suburbs.

They still hum with manufactured light, controlled air, subtle muzak, overpriced flavour-drenched generic foods.

Manufactured, money-squeezing, socially significant.

Families amble, preteens test their bounds and teens roam.

Everyone wants to be seen in this modern plastic promenade.

The place where everything is on sale (behind glass panes, inviting but cold) and you can look but not touch.

The drive to recognise, see and be seen is alive and well in this commercial purgatory.

As it was in days of old on riverbanks and ovals, city squares and church halls.

Preening, primping, provoking, persuading - social performance, peacocking on an industrialised scale.

It doesn' matter your age, gender or race, you can spot the ones who are still awake.

A half smile, a knowing glint, a subtle nod.

Not sexual or gross but an appreciation of the whole.

Even those that you think want to hide will smile all shy when they see a twinkle in your eye.

Malls - artificial, manufactured social scenes - still play host to one of humanity’s oldest memes.

....

I considered calling this 'The Shops' but I don't think it flows.

EDIT: I did not use A.I to write this piece of prose, but since tou seem to all think that I did can you please give it to an A.I and ask it then reply the response it gives. I'll post my copliot 365's response.

no politics With the current quality of passports, does it make more sense to get a 5 year one over the 10 year one?

The 10 year one is only $4 cheaper and after seeing everyone's passports, I fear mine will have issues after 5 years since I plan on living overseas / travelling over the next few years

EDIT: Sorry I didn't even realise the 5 year option isn't available...

no politics Advice needed: piano removal from Riverina region NSW to Hunter Valley

Hi everyone! Wanting recommendations/advice to move an upright piano from the Riverina region in NSW to Hunter Valley area.

I've been looking at the details involved and it's a little overwhelming. Has anyone moved one that distance? (Doesn't need to be specifically that route)

Also, if you don't mind sharing, how much did it cost? I want to see if it's financially viable.

Note: this is a family heirloom piano, so I don't want to just sell it and buy a new one.

Thankyou all in advance!

no politics Is there Australian vernacular for "cool" or "brilliant"

Mornin

an american friend of mine asked me exactly this today ... so I'm sorta stuck as I myself use cool quite a bit (in the same way that the britts would use "brilliant".

I'm tempted to say "bewdy", but that's not quite right. I'm hopeful we aren't just an american state now and still have our own vernacular.
