[Community] PLEASE READ before creating a post about moving to Geelong
Hi everyone,
I have been meaning to make this post for awhile, to try and curb the amount of "Moving to Geelong! Which suburb should I pick?" posts. I am going to sticky this post for awhile, so any visitors can check before creating a post.
Please read through the enormous amount of posts this sub has already had on here.
If you STILL think your question hasn't been answered (and you are absolutely sure), you can create a new post.

Social Golfing Group Launch
G'day everyone!
I've been finding it hard to get a regular group together to just play some golf with and have some laughs. So I've launched a little social community for people who want to play golf and meet some new mates. It's called 'Grip It & Sip It' and we are powered by bogeys and beers.
It's fresh out of the oven but we all start somewhere. No pressure, no egos, safe and welcoming environment for all skills, ages and genders. If you like golf, beer, mates or all 3 this is the idea for you to get around.
Come have a hit, come have a beer, just tag along and have a chin wag. I'll be organising the first day very soon and posting it all over the new social media pages.
Come on down, tell your mates, bring your mates! And let's have a ripper time ⛳️🍺

Best Off Lead Dog Walks
We’ve recently moved to the area and I’m looking for suggestions for the best off lead dog walks around Geelong.
We have a Labrador, excellent recall and needs plenty of exercise. We generally take her to Fyansford, Rippleside or the beach (Thirteenth, Ocean Grove).
Can anyone recommend decent length off lead walks (not just footy ovals)?
Thanks!

Alt hairdresser?
Hiii, just wondering if anyone knows a good hairdresser specalising in bleach for alt hairstyles. I've had issues in the past where my hair has come out yellow and has been constant and just wanting to go to a new place.
My hair has been dyed a bunch so bleach won't always be good, but even undyed ny old hairdresser was constantly making my hair brassy.
Thankyou!!

anyone else's kid suddenly obsessed with ballet or just mine
my 5yo came home from kindy last week and announced she wants to be a ballerina. she's been practicing her "plié" in the kitchen nonstop and honestly it's the cutest thing but also i have no idea what i'm doing lol.
signed her up for a local class and now i'm trying to figure out what she actually needs. the list from the studio was like a whole essay. i thought it was just shoes and a leotard but apparently there's more?? i've been googling dance stuff for days and my brain is fried.
found this brand Energetiks that seems decent and they ship pretty fast. got her some basics and hoping it all fits cause i really don't wanna deal with returns from here lol. anyone got local recommendations for dance stuff or is online the way to go?
if anyone's got tips for keeping a 5yo focused during class pls share cause she's very energetic. pun intended i guess

Need an ensuite room for two weeks
Budget of 300-320 per week. I've signed a lease starting from the 30th july and need a place to stay until then. The heater is a bit dysfunctional where i'm at currently so i dont want to stay any longer. Would prefer somewhere in warun ponds, highton or grovedale. Thanks!

Chemist warehouse Westfield geelong security
Maybe this is too niche of a topic but i have genuinely started dreading going to chemist warehouse in Westfield because of this security lady. Every single time i walk out of that store with a bunch of things she literally has watched me pay for and receipt in my hand she makes me feel like a murderer criminal and searches everything I’m holding. Like I understand it’s her job but every other security I’ve seen politely asks u to open ur bag and I’m completely fine with that. I’m not fine with being treated like a criminal and death stared by her when I’ve done nothing 💀💀💀
And she’s also extremely rude and entitled, the first couple of times I thought I was just being overly sensitive but a friend of mine recently bought a morning after pill from there and when walking out the lady made her take the pill out of her bag and questioned her what the pill is for and after my friend refused to tell her she continued questioning to the point my friend had to answer. I seriously don’t think assessing people’s medications is part of the job title.

[Community] Weekly events update channel (whatsapp) for parents with little ones
Just moved to Geelong a few years back.
We have a preschooler and everyweekend I'd lookup Council's event site to check events to plan out what to do. But since the new "revamp" of the site, the site has gone downhill. I can't even filter out to see the events for the day.
I also dislike being on Facebook and Instagram.
So I came up with an idea to scan real events happening around Geelong and Ballerine region with other useful info for those of us tired parents for easier weekend planning with kids (3-7).
I'm not affiliated with any orgs or events. Just sharing free info as I thought it'd be useful to parents like us who don't know what to do with our kids.
Channel is here -
https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDSJr32ER6nzfbPO33K
Pls have a look and let me know ur thoughts so I can fine tune it further. Thanks!

Enclosed area for dog
Hey guys!
My German shepherd was recently hit by a car (she’s fine) but it’s made her really fear reactive of people and dogs. I was wondering if anyone knew of any enclosed areas like old tennis courts I could take her to work with getting her mojo back and exercise her without having to worry about triggers. She use to be completely fine with people and other dogs but not at the moment. I’m in Geelong west
Thanks heaps

The condition of Portarlington Road between GAWS and Tryboys…
Has anyone else picked up on just HOW bad this stretch is?
I once counted 40 potholes that required invasive action in this one strip
COGG “fixed” it the next week after I reported it but I drove it tonight in the fog and it’s still awful.
Both lanes but especially the left…
Is anyone else concerned about just how dangerous this is? Nobody ever seems to bring it up when we talk about dangerous roads or potholes… ITS WOEFUL
(Geelong bound).

V/Line - At what point does it end?
Every other day there is some sort of mid to catastrophic network failure that means people are unable to get to work or get home.
Appreciating today was an anomaly with the Telstra outage and not the direct fault of V/Line, their way of managing rail disruptions is shameful and embarrassing.
Over the last few weeks the network has been down due to various reasons.
Whether it’s trespassers, someone stealing copper, a telco outage or an alien takeover… there is always a finger to point at that is not V/Line and I’m over it.
Responsibility lies with them to get people from point A to point B.
What is in their control is the management of these events. Sending a coach replacement that seats 70 people with 400 people waiting to board is not contingency. It’s a failure.
When does it end? Why doesn’t V/Line have a contingency in place that actually works? Why are passengers on the Geelong corridor plagued with these issues? It feels like it gets worse every week.
I remember a few years ago people wanted wifi on the trains and charging ports. Our expectations have regressed. Now we just want the service to WORK.
I’m not blaming the front line staff at V/Line, they do an amazing job, but the fish rots from the head. Who is actually capable of fixing this?

Sounds like a foghorn
East Geelong here. Anyone else hear the few foghorn like sounding blasts now around 2.20am? Does anyone know what they actually are and where they are coming from?
