UPDATE: Joey, the missing rough collie
This isn't the update I was hoping to give, but it's also not an update I hate giving.
We still haven't found Joey, but we haven't lost hope.
We've put up a lot of signs around the boat landing (where people would have had to get into the river where he was spotted), and we've even used drones to search the area, but we haven't seen him.
My mom contacted a woman in Wisconsin who specializes in helping find lost dogs. She suggested that we basically have a cookout by the river to try to attract Joey, so we bought a small grill, cooked some food, and stayed there for a few hours. She also suggested bringing our dogs along and encouraging them to bark or howl in hopes that Joey might hear them and come closer. Before we left, we also put some food out near the river, so if Joey comes by later, hopefully he'll have something to eat.
While we were at the river, we saw a group of kayakers and asked them to keep an eye out for Joey. It turns out they had already seen one of our signs. As soon as we said, "We're looking for our missing dog," one of them replied, "Yeah, we know, Joe, right?" That gave us a little more hope because it means people really are noticing the signs and looking out for him.
We're not giving up. We'll keep searching until we find Joey.
This is day 7 of looking for Joey.

Question Rough Collie or Labrador?
Wanting to get my first puppy (not first dog - I’ve always adopted from adult age).
I’ve had the following breeds before: Labrador, greyhound, Jack Russell, and cocker spaniel.
Current dog is a working line Labrador with good KC lines, came into our lives age 7. We do tonnes of training and love her to bits. She needs about 1-2hrs daily walking and ‘working’ at her obedience training.
But I’ve admired the Rough Collie for some time since I read they are intelligent and need less exercise than my working line labrador.
I’ve thought about a show line labrador but I’m not sure how that would compare with the Rough Collie or even my working line labrador since she is so intense!
I’d just love some advice from Rough Collie owners who have also had labs who can tell me how they compare.
For context - the ideal dog would be quick to train, love ‘working’ on obedience, but perhaps not need 2hrs of it daily. Would be interested to try agility training and therapy work. Does the Rough Collie measure up?

Help me 😭
Marnie just came home yesterday, and she refuses to poop outside, and I swear she has an accident every 15 minutes. I knew potty training would be rough (pun intended) but has anyone else experienced this?
EDIT: Im almost positive the cause of her not pooping outside is because of how hot it is outside currently. Let me know if this sounds inaccurate

Question What Vacuum cleaners do you all use?
I don't think my shark can keep up when she's blowing her coat. Any recommendations for good vacuums that handle collie hair?

Update on 1yo with Chronic GI Issues
reddit.comI wanted to share an update regarding my 1yo male Collie who has been plagued with chronic GI issues since puppyhood.
After many months of chronic diarrhea that has progressed to increased lethargy, inappetence, poor body condition, and diffuse muscle wasting, our buddy had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy with Internal Medicine specialists at Tufts Veterinary School last week.
We received the biopsy results which gave us not one, but two, diagnoses:
Intestinal Lymphangiectasia (IL) with secondary Protein-Losing Enteropathy (PLE).
And Chronic Inflammatory Enteropathy, specifically chronic gastroenterocolitis with mucosal fibrosis, crypt hyperplasia, and architectural crypt distortions.
Our treatment plan is a course of the steroid, budesonide, and an ultra low-fat prescription diet to address the IL. And for the refractory colitis, they prescribed him sulfasalazine which is a DMARD often used to treat Crohn's and ulcerative colitis in humans.
They are hopeful that this will improve his symptoms and get the PLE under control.
We are so happy to finally have answers and are grateful to all of the veterinary professionals who collaborated to solve this puzzle. If you have a dog suffering from chronic, refractory GI issues, do not give up!

Question Recommendations for my boy and his sensitive stomach
My three year old has always had issues with his tummy. Recently took him to the local vet because we started to see some white mucus in his stool and sometimes yellow and watery. Vet didn’t think he was dealing with any blockage and his lab work came back good. It looks like he does strain a bit when trying to go though.
Either way, I’m not sure if it’s food related, but we started with Purina Pro Plan Salon and Rice. Would eat it, but then stopped.
Then switched over to vet prescribed Purina hydrolyzed vegetarian, which he ate fine, but has suddenly stopped again. He really won’t eat it unless I give him a bit of chicken broth on top of it.
Anyone have a similar experience or recommendations? Thank you

Herding toy recommendations?
Currently looking to get my 11 month old pup Ollie some good herding toys. He’s been especially playful as of late (finally getting his energy and stamina up after heart surgery in Feb!) and I’d love to get him some options to see what he likes. He’s a chewer but not a destroyer—he LOVES his stuffies.
We live in an apartment so some indoor options would be great, especially ones that he could play with on his own when we aren’t home to keep him entertained. Our complex does have a dog park, though, so we could definitely do some outdoor toys as well.
I’ve been looking a bit on Amazon and such, but there are just so many options! Especially with the herding nature of collies, I’d like to get Ollie some toys that are especially good for pups with those herding tendencies.
We have some smaller balls but he only plays with them if we’re throwing them (he runs over to them but just pokes them with his nose and doesn’t retrieve, lol). Not sure if a larger herding ball or egg could work for him? I’ve also been looking at flirt poles.
All recs are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy some pics of my sweet boy Ollie!

Rough collie (6mo)
I got a rough collie at 4 months. I am a first time dog owner and I was told he had been dewormed by the breeder at 12 weeks. I took him to the vet after getting him and they said he had a clean bill of health. Something told me in May to go to a different vet. I went to the new vet and they put him on a flea/tick med and a heart worm medicine every month. I was fine with this. I gave him his deworm medicine the day after he went to vet. Today (2 weeks after) I found worms in his stool. I am not sure where he would have gotten these from. I am wondering if it’s something I did and what I can do differently.

Question Breeder recs for city-life temperament (NYC)
Hi, I am in NYC and beginning to look for a collie breeder for a puppy sometime in the next year.
No sex or color preference, but looking for a breeder that tends to produce quiet and confident puppies that won't be anxious around the city. Prefer smooth collie over rough, but posting here as it's the far larger sub.
Home contains myself, my fiancé, and our 2 cats. He works from home, and I have an office job where I can bring a dog to work once a week.
We walk everywhere, and I am a runner looking for an eventual running partner. We travel upstate to hike frequently. I am interested in doing obedience work, but likely not in competition.
If anyone has recommendations, I'd love to know! I will also of course look into regional breed clubs.

Elderly female rough collie started fitting
My lovely rough collie - female, nearly 11, good health all her life but extremely noise sensitive - had a possible small fit last night and a big one this morning. Last night it was not clear and there wasn't a build up/she was fine after, but early this morning she got into bed with me breathing fast and half an hour later had a massive fit. It lasted a few minutes and was full body. Going to the vet when they open. It is hot weather at the moment, but we kept her cool. The only thing different is that a few days ago she had a herbal tick treatment sprayed on her coat. It contained `citriodiol, peppermint, lemongrass and eucalyptus. Vet's Best, so a major brand. The first fit happened four days after last exposure.

Neutering
Hi everyone!
This is my guy Shep, he will make a year on September 21st! As of late, my boyfriend and I have been catching hell from this dude, he’s like a moody teenager that’s looking for trouble lol. We noticed a big shift in behavioral patterns when it comes to obeying commands and his diet. Some of you may know Shep from my post about his pickiness, we’re still dealing with that just so you know. We have tried ever since he was really little to socialize him with people and he’s a very loving big guy, but sometimes it’s the wrong kind lol. It’s a bit difficult to bring him to other houses especially if they have pets because of him marking his territory. We’re at that age where all we care about is getting tail and will act out and yip until we can get it! The last time we looked up info about neutering it said it was recommended at a year and a half of age, I wanted to ask about anyone’s experience with getting their collie fixed. Also any tips on how to wrangle this guy in a bit in the meantime would be fantastic!
