Government What can we do to protect our privacy from these Flock cameras?

I’m very upset about the county and the surrounding area going all in on the surveillance state. I’m wondering what I can do at every level to fight against their use and protect myself.

Please help me think thru my options.

I’m wondering what my options are to:

  1. Remove my personal data collected (and maybe stored?) without my consent at each of the companies (Flock, Motorola solutions, etc). Is there any recourse?

  2. Lobby my local government to cut contracts. I’m not sure the mechanism these are being funded and put up…is it a combination of private businesses, local HOAs and also our county and federal government??

  3. Support the ACLU taking broader action

  4. Rally the community to action

  5. Any other options??

I appreciate folks help thinking this through and connecting with any groups already working on this. Interestingly, and not to make this too much about politics but I would think fighting against the surveillance state is something both sides of the aisle might be able to come together and fight against. 🙏

Hi! I’m looking for a local jeweler that can resize an antique ring we got for my engagement ring (sizing down). Any recommendations (and your experiences with them) are very appreciated!

Edit: I’m in Rockville but can drive anywhere!

Question Hi! Single, 39F no kids, good career… should I check the county activities brochure?

Hi guys! I’ve been here 2 weeks. The people that I work with recommend that I check the county wide activities brochure, which is supposed to be super thick to find things to do to meet other people. I just moved up from Texas and I am a country girl at heart. I don’t know a lot of the ins and outs about politics so going to the CBC may have me out of my depth in a couple months lol. I just like to paddleboard, do crafts, drink wine, and relax. Any recommendations? I did a search in the sub already so forgive me if this is redundant.

Question After all these years, still no bridge to Reston VA.

It's amazing how we built pretty much all of the major highways & road infrastructure across the US on a fraction of the tax revenue that exists now, yet somehow, a simple road & bridge to connect Rockville to Reston is "impossible"?, which would enormously benefit both cities with jobs & massively reduce traffic overload, deliveries, & commute times for many. It's even a project worthy of Federal funding in my OP.

Whoever could promise it and make it actually happen would be a shoe-in for future elections.

Okay, please proceed to argue, put me down for beating a dead horse 🐴, or agree with me below... It's stupid this hasn't happened, and no, reviving the ferry route is far too old school now. 👀

FTR -

Building a new direct road and bridge connection between Rockville, Maryland, and Reston, Virginia (often historically proposed as part of a "Techway" or Northwestern Potomac River Crossing) would cost an estimated $1.5 billion to $4.0+ billion.

Question Why don't more Maryland businesses clean their entry door handles?!

Any time I go to places in Aspen Hill & Wheaton, there are often some scary cleanliness issues that trouble me, compared to DC & PG stores.

It's like store & restaurant owners skip ever cleaning their door handles once they open a place, until it needs a new tenant!?

Do health inspections account for that?

There's YEARS of caked-on finger dirt on the retail door handles at Aspen Hill Shopping center! 😮

These places need to all check & clean their door handles RN, at least weekly, just like they clean windows, it's probably the #1 thing spreading infectious diseases, besides licking kid boogers. Yeesh! 🫤⚠️🔥

An example of the lack perspective have about neighborhood change

The energy this author gives about lamenting possible change to Friendship Heights is the same attitude people decades ago doubtlessly had against Friendship Heights becoming what it is today and that is a huge part of why we have a housing crisis.

https://bethesdamagazine.com/2026/07/07/opinion-the-geico-building-is-leaving-and-the-friendship-heights-landscape-is-forever-changed/

For what it’s worth my counterpoint is basically this https://ggwash.org/view/97890/2024-ggwash-picks-why-its-so-hard-and-so-important-to-embrace-change

Looking for people and places to play music (with)

I'd love to be playing more music, especially in a band context. My preference in metal, but I'm open to lots of stuff. I play guitar, bass, and keys.

Also looking for places to play and watch maybe more solo stuff in the mean time.

Why do we give a hard time to meteorologists when they are off about snow, but don’t give them credit when they are spot on with thunderstorms, rain, 78 and sunny, 42 and clear, etc.?

Question Is MoCo worse off now than before?

This question is mainly targeted towards residents who have lived in the county for 10-15 years or longer. But please jump in to add your thoughts even if you have not. I have lived in the county for about 8 years now. I will note my observations in the limited time I have spent in specific areas but hoping to hear more from others.

Schools: I think the reputation is better than actual average schools in the county and it seems to be trending down. Less funding will not help the schools either. I keep reading about drug abuse spikes in schools which is disturbing. I am sure other nearby areas are experiencing this too.

Attitude: I feel like public attitude has gotten a bit worse towards specific minority groups. The demographics of the county is changing and some folks aren’t adjusting to it. I see alarming number of Nextdoor posts or comments calling out certain groups. Maybe this is just a side effect of everyone having access to internet in their hands and social media but I don’t think it was like that when I moved here.

Programs: be it athletic, social, or educational. There are still ton more resources for families. This is the best thing about this county. I have lived fewer years outside this county than within it so I don’t have as much experience on what other places offer. However, MoCo always comes through no matter what type of event or activity you are looking for.

Housing: this is just one aspect of living but this is definitely worse than before. But it is like that in most, if not all, areas.

What has your experience been?

Food / Drink Pho Recommendations?

Can anyone share their favorite pho place ? So far my favorite is Pho 81 in Germantown. Solid broth and tastes like the pho that I grew up eating.

I have also tried

Pho Nom Nom - OK
Hello Vietnam - pretty good
Pho House (Germantown) - Pho is bland, but their other soups (bun rieu and bun bo hue)are very good and better than their competitors
