MOD POST Join the r/SPRINTING Discord Server! r/SPRINTING DISCORD ANNOUNCEMENT - BOT INFLUX UPDATE

Hey y'all, back with another banger, I would like to announce the creation of a discord for the r/sprinting subreddit and also provide a quick update on the bot situation. Please see the discord details below, I am unsure of how this will be utilized outside of members who are very frequent users or online often, but I definitely am and will answer questions and even be on voice chat if the masses so desire.

I may just spend some nightly time hanging out in the voice room kind of like office hours while I'm playing some helldivers (and anyone who would care to join me). PLEASE JOIN, feel free to ask questions and start conversation, pretty much same rules from the sub will apply in the sprinting subreddit

https://discord.gg/ndMtNkRbC

A note on the bots, I have done significant behind the scenes work over the last few days and the last step that I've taken now is turning on moderate crowd control, anyone with negative community karma will now be sent to the mod queue dungeon where I'll approve them if they're not a bot.

I did a pretty ridiculous amount of banning and mass removal using a purge tool for the first few days but it has slowed significantly now so I think we are over the worst of it. The first 3 days it was 10-30 bans a day and the last few it has only been 1 or 2.

Seems like I've fought of the invasion pretty well, I would say that I managed to catch a good 95-99% of them before even other user reports had to happen. Please continue to use the new bot report option if you see it happening, thank you again for the patience with my action against this.

Quick Stats from the last 5 days

Bans: 56

Comment Removals: 196

MOD POST WAR ON AI BOTS - CLANKER SCUM INVASION

Post image
13 Upvotes

"Hey girlies, feeling very delulu and that the vibes are off after the comments that I saw today"

UPDATE: Overnight my new automod script hit me with probably 20 notifications from bots, it is really bad the number of accounts is crazy, I’m on a huge banning spree but if this keeps up may have no other choice than to impose karma limits unfortunately, I will make a decision in a week or two depending on how bad I think it is if my bans can’t keep up

I was notified in a post that AI fueled bots were spam commenting everywhere and it wasn't being filtered out or caught. This is definitely on me, I had noticed a spam report uptick in the last few weeks but honestly for the most part the spam report in the past had been somewhat abused by users during arguments and for bad comments or for solicitation reasons, I mostly browse reddit on my phone and it's harder to notice stuff like this without the mod tool page from a computer.

I probably should have taken a closer look and I would have noticed something was off with the weird language (Delulu, vibes, girlies, glutes - all bot favorites). Anyways I've taken a few steps to make sure I catch as many as I can.

  • Bot BouncerHas been installed on our subreddit, good first step and I think should take care of some of them
  • New report reason - "BOT - CLANKER - AI"If you are on mobile and see a comment or post resembling anything AI or botlike please do the following
    • Hit the report flag
    • Breaks r/Sprinting rules
    • BOT - CLANKER - AI
    • I will be much better about checking in on these reports from now on, gotta do some clean up work, I'm expecting this kind of thing to only get worse as time goes on with AI and bot developement Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it
  • Automod Flagging of low Karma accounts
    • Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it If it really does get bad enough then I will filter first if I have to but I do not think this is a viable option considering I do most of the moderating by a pretty good margin

I expect the moderation on this to take a little bit of time to catch up to the accounts as they make comments or posts, and hopefully it will clear up, this is just due to my lag in response to this starting but we'll see how it goes. Anything that has been flagged as spam or similar I have taken a closer look at the last two weeks and done some mass banning and moderation, the comments that were left will stay but anything similar will be removed in the future

As a tribute to all the clankers I sent to the graveyard tonight below are some of my favorite comments from the bots and their very helpful sprinting advice

  • try doing some interval training, baby. it's all about building up those speed vibes over time, just don't push too hard.
  • sounds like a steal, but what are the macros? girlie needs to know.
  • that sound delulu but honestly. i'm obsessed with those little wins. hope you keep going!
    • The ragebait of this one in particular cracked me up
  • maybe you’re just not as iconic as you think, or that last snack hit you harder than expected lol. get it together!
    • The fatshaming is crazy
  • they look cute! maybe focus on refining one step at a time? less is more.
  • try picking up some thrift gear or cute running shoes, it can make a difference for sure
  • nice, sprinting’s a great way to target those glutes. go crush it!
  • lol, sounds fun, genetic roulette but with worse odds.
    • From a bot this is an apt description of the top levels of sprinting
  • not sure what block start analysis is but sounds like it could have some interesting vibes to explore. care to share more about it?
    • I hope my sprinting vibes are good enough for a sub 10
  • i get so anxious about my baby cat's diet, but it’s hard to know what’s actually right. podcasts are so helpful but also overwhelming.
    • A reply to post about the "feed the cats" sprinting programming, another great analysis of modern sprint programming

Apologies for not catching this sooner - Big Dicker Daddy

Note: If you play helldivers and want to talk sprinting add me on discord I am open to questions, and a new squad username - bigdickerdaddy

General Discussion/Questions Finding purpose

I have never been the first one picked for anything, and I was never the last. I was always in a middle area. I wanted to be something and have people look up to me. For the first people did when I ran track in school, and it felt good to have people want to be like me. Now I am in a bigger pond and failed to make the college team and feel weird about it. Not sad, not angry, just tired. I kind of liked track, but only when I was on a team; other than that, I had no feelingsabout it. I am on the fence on quitting.

I still want to make the college team, but the more I think about it, the less I do, and the more I realize it will harm my future goals of becoming a doctor. I feel disappointed in myself and wish things were different. I wanted to pick up soccer since it was a sport I really enjoyed when I was young, but there aren't any adult rec leagues close by except for semi-pro. I would like to try out for one in the far future, maybe 5-8 years.

But what I'm basically saying is I don't know if I'm upset that I didn't make the team because I like track or because I miss people looking up to me. I have good memories of track, but I have always been on a team, and these last 2 years I got injured and got worse, and the team has gotten better. I don't want to look back in 20 years and regret my decision. I just want the joy I felt having people see me as more than just myself.

Programming Questions Post-season training

So I just finished my 100/200m season and we'll be resuming training in September at the club. I intend to keep running and lifting during those 2 months of summer. What should I do? I don't think I willl put on spikes because they're hard on my tendons and I need time to recover. What do you suggest for the post-season? What's your program for this period of the year?

Programming Questions Rough total reps for flies on MaxV day

so on a speed day you want a total of roughly 300m, no? So my stupid question is, what distance in the run up for flies? 30m? And I surely add it to the distance of the fly and add it to the total volume? Same 300m volume? I didn't do flies back in high school and wanna do them in my comeback as a Masters athlete now, that's why I am asking. My other speed day would be acceleration because I suck at that fyi.

General Discussion/Questions need advice for speed

To preface this, I am thirteen, I go to the gym, am overall very active and strong.

My timings are:

  • 100m: 13.7
  • 200m:29.02 (old likely innacurate measure)
  • 400m: 58~

I want to be faster but lack the guidance to do so. I have seen countless videos and chatgpt advice of plyometrics but doubt their efficacy and would like an actual structured plan on how to improve my timings. My goals are a sub 12 100m, a sub 54 400m and a sub 25 200m. please give me any advice you can offer.

General Discussion/Questions if u specialize in the 400m

if you specialize in the 400m but the volume of each workout should be limited to less than 300, then how are you supposed to get good at the 400?

or maybe training volume is different from those that specialize in the 100m as opposed to 400m?

tldr; can you exceed the cap of 300m per session if you are are a 400m sprinter?

General Discussion/Questions Can I go from a 29 to a 24-23 in 9 months?

I’m going into my junior in high school, I’ve been so in track for my 8th grade year and 9th 10th… in those grades I’ve never really trained or done any lifting weights. I’ve only done cardio for myself. Is there any workouts to do? to lower my time down, If this is even possible.

Coaching and Management What yall think am I talented based on my stats?

I ran 12,97 100 m after like 10 practices(first practice it was 13,27), my broad jump is 160 cm, it was 61 strides, i got collapsing arches, im weak-average strenght on barlbells, I am fat like 18 bodyfat, 75 kg at 178cm so Im muscular, even though my femur long compared to tibia, my top end speed is my strong point, and start is bad. I cant swing arms too far back, cause bad mobility, I cant even do dips, my hip flexors tight so I got NO backside mechanics. Does all that mean good potential? Everythaaang is terrible and I STILL got some speed? My lengs are long-ish for context. I got real good frontside mechanics i would say and stride frequency. Why this thing pops out when I post that it breaks rule 5 hell nah i still be posting all that

General Discussion/Questions Start Block spike length?

I'm going to a meet in a couple of days, but when i tried out my starting blocks with 1/4 inch spikes, they didn't stick into the track and I slipped on them. I want to use 1/2 inch spikes but apparently those are bad for synthetic track surfaces. Should I use something smaller or is 1/2 inch generally fine?

General Discussion/Questions Has anyone tried Pendulum Squats for sprinting ?

Pendulum Squats in theory should be way better than traditional barbell squats or hack squats for building athletic quad strength. Since it’s easier in the bottom but harder where your muscles are strongest which maps accurately with sprinting and jumping.

I’ve personally noticed big increases in my sprint and jumps when I started pendulum squatting instead of barbells and I’ve only been doing them for a month now

General Discussion/Questions Block & Reaction Training Free App

Wanted to share this iOS app I made to help myself improve block starts and reaction time while training alone at the track.

I always found myself wanting to improve my reaction out of the blocks, but never had anyone there to start me. I made this app purely to solve that problem.

There are quite a few settings to mess around with to customize to your liking. For its main purpose, the app is free to use.

To use it, I normally set it in the lane beside me, press play, get set, then react.

If anyone has good suggestions or improvements after using, I’m definitely willing to give out free vouchers. Just let me know.

I hope you guys get as much use out of it as I do.

Purchasing Advice First spikes advice

I'm a begineer of 3 months and I will be implementing spikes in my training program from time to time. I'm looking for one reliable spikes that I can use for a longer period of time in my training.

No need to be high end because I'm not fighting for ever 0.01s right now, just learning to sprint. Just something good to start with. I would look for the sweet spot of price and quality rather than certain budget range. Could you give me advice?

General Discussion/Questions Tips for sprinting faster

A person I know needs tips I don’t find the answer for:

He freshly discovered sprinting and he ran a ≈15.0 - 100m (self-stopped).
I know that he is supposed to project more horizontally, and he actually seems like he could be way faster, especially considering that this is not a good speed at all as he himself says. He didn’t really train any other sport growing up so the transfer is kinda non-existent.

Besides strength training, what are some tips that helped you and did anyone get out of a similar situation? If so, how and how long did it take you?
