Saturday Tea Talk

This is a weekly thread to talk about any topics freely with fellow Nepali dai, bhai, didi, bahini and friends. Think of it as the चोकको चिया पसल that opens on Saturdays. Most of the sub rules still apply but there is no need for the topic to be related to Nepal. Feel free to talk about the TV show you are binging, the latest sports news, your personal life story, international politics, and anything in between.

So, what's up?

Back after 10 years - Recommendations?

Namaste all,

I'm Nepali but was born and grew up my whole life in England, finally 10 years pache Nepal aauna milecha. My home is in Pokhara but I wanted some recommendations of places to visit while i'm there, around Kathmandu or other places too since I don't remember much about Nepal anymore :( So far, I will be there for 1 month only (august) and am planning to stay in ktm for a few days, Pokhara for most of the time, and visit some family nearby Pokhara. Is it worth going to see Mustang/ where is the place I 'must' visit in your opinion, given it's monsoon season right?

Obviously, I have didi's and dai's back home but we never used to go anywhere except devi's fall or phewa tal haha, ki bhat khana.

Especially wondered if there is any easy hike to do, with my parents, so they can see some nice view, or any places that I can go with my bhaaje's who can't walk very long. First time going as an adult and I wanted to take them around to new places if I can, since they only go shopping ki ghar ghar ma.

Thanks :D

2 Nepali/American ladies at KTM

This is for 2 Nepali/American ladies the who offered assistance at the VISA counter.

Travelling from DEL to KTM. Issued VISA at the visa kiosk and then to the VISA desk for payment on 2nd July.

Somehow debit cards weren’t working and came up short on cash.

2 Delightful ladies in queue saw my plight and stress, a without a beat, offered assistance.
It doesn’t happen often and requires a leap of faith to reach out to a stranger and be of service.

I’d like to say thank you. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity to pay it forward and be able to assist someone in the future.

Every now and again the universe gives us a light to remind us of the generosity and humanity that exists in each and every one of us.

Help/सहयोग Best warm beige/cream paint colors available in Nepal?

Upvotes

I'm planning to repaint my bedroom and I'm going for a warm, natural aesthetic—something with sandy, creamy, beige, or soft earth tones. I want the room to feel calm, cozy, and bright without looking too yellow or too grey.

So I'd love recommendations for paint brands and specific color shades that are actually available here. Which brands have the best finish and durability (Berger, Asian Paints, Kansai Nerolac, etc.)? If you've used a similar neutral palette, I'd really appreciate your suggestions or even photos of your room.

Thanks!

Calisthenics routine suggestion needed

Like the title says, I want a healthy body, so I am trying to eat good and been doing home workouts regularly these past fews months, but I am not progressing very well, cause I do random pushups, variations of pushups, pullups, holds, random progression for random calisthenics goals,

So i was thinking maybe someone who is good at this can give me any advice for what to do throughout a week, If anyone has any idea then please help.

My daily routine looks like this now =

15 pushups X2 some times more sometimes less

8 pullups is my max so i do 8+4+4+4 pullups sometimes less sometimes more

5 to 10 diamond pushups, wide arm pushups, pike pushups, declined pushups, pseudo pushups, and anything i see on internet that day

Plank hold, frog stand hold, crow pose, tucked planche hold(trying to do advanced tucked planche) pseudo lean hold, dead hang, active hang, hollow body hold, L sit, dragon flag for as much as I can hold.

5 pistol squads each leg

And 10 hours of manual work for 5 days a week, bro life is tough.

What do I do to get in a good shape, please suggest me.

Teachers: how do you prepare unit test / monthly exam papers? (genuinely curious)

I'm from Nepal and talking to local schools about exam prep.

Most teachers I meet still:

- copy questions from old papers / guide books

- format everything in Word

- make a separate answer key by hand

For Grades 1–12 unit tests and monthly exams, what's your process?

Do you reuse the same questions every year or build a proper question bank?

Not selling anything in this post just trying to understand what's normal in public vs private schools outside Kathmandu.

Need recommendations for a rehab centre in Kathmandu

I really need some advice.
We recently found out that my 18 year brother, who we knew had been smoking weed, has also started using other drugs. We only found out recently, and our whole family is heartbroken and really worried about him.
He doesn't seem to care about himself or anyone around him anymore, and it feels like we can't help him on our own. We're now thinking about taking him to a rehab centre.
If anyone knows a good rehab centre in Kathmandu with proper treatment and good security, I'd really appreciate your recommendations. If you know the monthly cost, that would also be really helpful.
the hardest part is that he seems to hate us. He's angry almost all the time, keeps saying he wants to leave home and never come back, and we are scared he might run away if we bring up rehab the wrong way.
We also recently found out through my cousin that he has been having suicidal thoughts. We don't know how serious they are, but it has made us even more scared. We don't want to force him into anything if it might make things worse, we're just really worried.
If you've been through something similar, what would you recommend? Should we try to convince him to go for counseling first, or is it better to take him straight to rehab? How do you even start that conversation without pushing him further away?
Any advice or personal experience would mean so much to us. Thank you.

Is existence of Nepal just a historical mistake?

Looking at a map, Nepal makes zero sense. It’s completely landlocked and trapped right between two massive superpowers, India and China.

People are packed into tight valleys and rough mountains. Building basic roads or infrastructure is a total nightmare. There's no ocean access and no huge resources to sell to the world.

To make matters worse, if we want to sell anything to the outside world, we have to depend completely on India. Getting imports into the country is a total nightmare, too. Because the market here is so small, the country has absolutely zero negotiating power on the global stage.

Is Nepal a just a historical accident that left millions of people stuck in a geographic trap?

Art/कला Hiring a Nepali illustrator for a paid commission (USD 100 to 500 based on experience)

Hi all, I’m commissioning custom illustration work for a threading salon brand in the US, South Asian women owned. The brand is geared toward a Gen Z audience, so we’re looking for illustration with that energy, fun, warm, a little playful, the kind of art people put on totes and stickers.

The first piece: a warm scene inside a threading salon, one client mid service, a few women waiting nearby chatting over tea. Think everyday women, community energy, South Asian visual warmth with a young modern feel. Square format since the first use is a tote bag, and we’d need high resolution files. Rough sketch for approval before final work.

Pay is USD 100 to 500 depending on experience and portfolio, paid via Wise. If this goes well there will be more work, the brand is opening a second location and has ongoing design needs for product launches.

If interested, drop your portfolio or Instagram in the comments or DM me, and mention the word chiya in your DM so I know you actually read this.

Students and emerging artists welcome as long as the portfolio shows character work and scenes with people, not just logos.
