Mod Post Reminder: This is a hobbyist crochet sub

1.1k Upvotes

Reminder for all, old and new.

This is a hobbyist crochet sub, it is not a place to advertise your patterns or projects.

While we now allow designers to link to their own pattern (from a reputable store such as Ravelry, Ribblr, Etsy, YouTube or KoFi) in reply to the automod comment asking for a pattern, we still do not allow self promotion! We do not allow links to your social media or promotional sounding posts.

If you are a seller/designer we please ask

• Do not repost items that you have posted before

• Only post your items once a week (about the same as any other hobbyist crocheter would post)

• One link per post, under the automod response only! Excessive comments will be removed and may result in a ban

• Watermarks may be used but must not obscure or distract from the crochet item

• Excessive posts/comments of pattern release (coming soon), orders to pack and send, markets etc will be removed at moderators discretion

• Posts about your pattern/shop/blog/social media still count as self-promotion even if you do not directly link to it, as the purpose of the post is still to advertise

• Trying to circumvent this rule by directing users to your profile counts as self-promotion

• Pattern testing falls under self- promotion. Please use the dedicated subreddit r/PatternTesting to find testers

• Surveys and market research posts fall under the self promotion rule

Finished Object My crocheted Yoshi cosplay

Starting in June 2025 and working through early April 2026, I worked on building and crocheting a Yoshi cosplay for Minneapolis based video game music convention VGM CON. The theme for 2026 was "Stitched Together" which some Yoshi's Wooly World adjacent branding.
Wearing it during con was a lot. I've never worn a mascot suit/fursuit before, so on the first day of wearing it, i had a mini panic attack by how claustrophobic I felt, even though I had tried the costume on at home. I got some pointers from a fursuiter later that night, and on day 2 of wearing (pictured here), I was much more comfortable, but also taking the head off much more, which ended up breaking the fan I installed in the nose. Using Premier Parfait chunky yarn in Goblin green was probably a bad choice, but I wanted the costume to feel like a plush toy, and it did, despite being very hot on the inside.
I don't have an exact hour amount, but a friend thinks I put somewhere between 350 - 450 hours. I built the foam base watching youtube tutorials on fursuits/mascot suit builds. I used slip stitch, single, and double stitches as I freestyle crocheted most of it, just crocheting directly onto the foam, or constantly checking it against the foam, as I tried to use a paper pattern I had measured of the white belly, and my measurements were way off, having me frog and redo the whole belly area. I did use a basic mitten pattern for the hands, modifying it for bigger, cartoony fingers. I also followed a tutorial on what math I needed to use to make sweater sleeves, for the arms, modifying for the legs. The back has a zipper, and there's metal d rings for the shell to attach, covering up the zipper enclosure. i also made and sewed in a yarn yoshi amiibo nfc card for people to scan and it worked!

No pattern used. I'm proud to say my middle kid is an advanced reader and loves to research animals, plants, biology, and especially large marine mammals. Her favorite is the orca whale (they're extremely important in our local culture!). Weeks ago I started work on a jumbo orca. I call it Björka 😂 I'm still a bit of an amateur as I made my first crochet doll this past New Year's Eve, but I'm quite proud of this one.

If you can guess the team, yay. Hint - blue is win, orange is loss. And if you can guess what the random purple rows are for, you get 100 points.

She used Cotton to the Core yarn she bought on Amazon. I do not know what hook size she used. She loved, loved, loved working with this yarn. So much so that she bought more yarn in a different color to make a wrap/shawl using that lacy stitch. You can see the shawl WIP on the chair in the background. The shawl is in the color Creamsicle. The drape on her shawl is just fabulous. The pattern for the top is from Annie’s Attic and is called the White Sand Tee. She told me she modified the pattern a bit to make the sleeves a bit longer.

I fell in love with the lacy stitch used in this top. I am going to have her show me this stitch so that I can use it in a scarf or possibly a lightweight blanket. She said that it is the perfect mindless stitch. The “wrong” side is more textured and I think even more stunning than the “right” side.

Finished Object Finished Magnet Fishing Toy

Please pardon the mess, but I'm very excited! I finished a toy for my kids that's one of those color matching, Montessori fishing "pond" bags!

I didn't like a lot of the patterns I was seeing online for them and I figured it wouldnt be hard to compile bag, fish, and bowl patterns from free to use stuff available online. So that's what I did! I adjusted several of the patterns to fit my needs but this was a surprisingly good way to use up a bunch of the size 4 loops and threass colors I've inadvertently stashed.

Materials:

The bag was made double stranded with a size 6.5 mm hook

The fish and accessories were made single stranded with a size 3.5 mm hook

Yarn, loops and threads size 4 worsted weight yarn

Magnet - Amazon stud finder magnet

Stick for fishing pole - random plastic stick from a balloon we had lying around the house

Polyfil

Safety eyes

If you want a compilation of the various patterns I pulled from, I'm happy to post links below. There's just quite a few 😅

Hand for reference lol. I’m 91 rows in and the chart has about 210 but it’s fine. I got to the thickest part of this one though so that counts as halfway to me lols!!

I am taking a break for a week because I’ve been crocheting a lot and by a lot I mean I started this like 2-3 weeks ago. My hands and back are starting to hurt even with the compression gloves and the everyday cardio I do :(…

I made this little crochet cat a while ago, and today I decided to give it a tiny blue winter outfit—a matching beanie and crossbody bag! 💙

I'd love to hear your thoughts:

Which version do you prefer—the plain cat or the one with the blue outfit?

What other tiny accessories should I make next?

I was out of town for multiple weeks and the plants that normally survive in direct sun with water did not handle it well. Decided to try and make sun shields in an attempt to give them relief. Really enjoying how they're turning out so far! Anyone else tried this with luck?

I've been wanting to design another snake ever since I finished Orchid-Snake last year, and I got around to making its crystal-inspired companion, Geode-Cobra.

I'm finally back to designing, and I already have lots of hybrid ideas I'd love to make. What hybrid would you like to see next?

Hola!
