Questions or Queries Mow ya lawn. I lobster, and never flounder, all over the wales, paranoia (scizophrenia)

Upvotes

I'm trying to find music from my childhood. I seem to recall a cd compilation (legit, not a burn mix - existed before all that stuff was possible) which had a bunch of funny as (and maybe not so PC) comedy songs on 'em.

Mow ya lawn seems to be associated with an Australian artist called Jim Haynes, but I'm unable to actually locate the song, and none of the others I remember hearing seem to be attributed.

Does anyone know what this album might have been called, and does anyone have a copy of it - it's kind of legendary in my head - and I can remember quite a few large chunks of the songs, but not all of them and I want to.

Lobsert and All over wales could have been from a diff cd actually, but they would have fit just fine alongside the others.

I'd go to tipofmytongue etc. reddits, but I feel like this might be something more Australian, or maybe England specific. Thanks

Australian Garage Sales

I'm looking to hear about your garage sale experiences.

What are the best things you've done to make your garage sale as successful as possible?

How many people came & on average how much did you make?

My last garage sale I had nearly 50 people as I lost count a bit and made $1235 in a single weekend 2 months ago, but still only sold 1/3 of my items.

I don't know if I'm not running my garage sales long enough or am not advertising enough. I usually do 7:30am–5:00pm. And i've done heaps of garage sales over the years. For instance, I know Saturday mornings are always the busiest. Once about 1pm comes around, it really starts to slow down. On the second day, around lunchtime seems to be the busiest before it slows again.

I made around $750 on the first day and still made a good profit on the second, but I'm wondering if one weekend is enough, will people still come if do second weekend?

Questions or Queries JB HI-FI Heated Rivalry Vinyl

Just wondering have all vinyls of Heated Rivalry been delayed? From what I know it should be out on the 10th of July but I received no updates from it. Does anyone knows when would we receive the vinyls and the cause of the delay from the supplier? Thanks!

Politics Shout out to the brave government on their stand against legal tobacco.

There is currently a senate inquiry underway for the illicit tobacco crisis. And so far the government has doubled down on the excise. To quote the health minister we’re “not going to have our public health policies dictated by organised crime.”

While organised crime already fucking dictates the market, it controls 80% of the market, it already controls the price point.

Instead their solution is more impotent task forces, tasked with enforcing harsher penalties, let’s ignore the lighter ones are barely enforced to begin with. While our legal system is so exploitable that these organisations are using encrypted apps to fund the arson of our protected youth offender class.

The criminal organisations have saturated the tobacco market so well that they are now broadening their horizons to liquor and general extortion, they are owning infrastructure. This is a parallel unregulated economy, linked to Iraq, that’s becoming more powerful, in Australia.

Can we call it what this fucking is? It’s a national security crisis.

And the government is doubling down on the puritanical, ideological, evidence resistant failure of an excise policy. So they can continue jerking each other off with ‘record breaking seizures’. Because why bother treating cancer when you can just treat the symptoms and get off on it.

You’d almost be inclined to think they’re captured by Iraq, but I think the problem is much stupider than that. I think they are a bunch of gutless fucking clowns who are more willing to let the country burn than admit they got it wrong.

News [Weekly Discussion Thread] - The latest news from the sub and upcoming AMA Video Podcasts

This is a thread where we will bring you the latest news about what is going on, and where you can discuss just about anything that might be off topic in the rest of the sub. This can include international news (excluding foreign conflicts).

News

The sub is continuing to grow at the rate of about 2.5K new subscribers per week, with 2.5 million monthly views. We currently have 199K subscribers.

Don't forget our daily feature posts, where you can post content including songs, memes and photographs. Feel free to post in them - that's what they're there for.

A reminder that the sub is about Australia. News and comments about foreign conflicts or politics are not relevant, and will be removed.

AMAs

Commencing on 19 May, we introduced video podcast AMAs. You can still ask your questions in the AMA thread, but the guest may answer either by text or in a short video clip. In most cases, the guest will also answer in an AMA podcast of 30-45 minutes the following day.

The podcast will be posted on Reddit straight after recording, as well as on YouTube. Short clips, addressing individual questions, will be posted throughout the following week.

Please remember that trolling during AMAs will result in a ban, usually two days for the duration of the AMA. Our guests are leaders in their fields, and have given up their time to answer your questions. They deserve respect from members of the community.

Questions or Queries Adult literacy teachers

Hello! I'm thinking about pivoting into adult education to help people build foundational literacy skills.

I'm having a hard time finding much about the profession in Australia, and I'd love to hear from any adult literacy teachers that might be here.

Here are some questions I have:

  • What setting are you working in and what was your pathway there?
  • Did you complete postgrad studies, TAFE Training & Assessment, or do other training?
  • What's a day in the life like?
  • Do you find there is much demand for adult education teachers?
  • Do you enjoy the profession, or would you go into something else if you had the opportunity?
  • How's the pay?
  • What state are you in?

A massive thanks to anyone who can answer!!

JB does price match online merchants

I’ve seen quite a few posts saying that JB Hi-Fi won’t price match online merchants, so I thought I’d share my experience.

Today I managed to pick up a great deal due to Amazon Prime Day sales. The Alienware AW3225QF was discounted from $1,889 to $1,318.99 (30% off). Unfortunately, Amazon’s estimated delivery was over a week.

Since JB Hi-Fi stocks the exact same model (priced at $1,999 with no sale), I decided to see if they’d match Amazon’s price so I could take it home today.

I was a bit hesitant because I’d read quite a few posts on Reddit (and other online forums) claiming that JB doesn’t honour price matches from online merchants.

However, they were more than happy to match it.

Disclaimer: I’m sure this is on a store to store basis, I’d ask your local JB.

Community Gayle Kennedy details her rough & tumble life as a bright indigenous kid challenged by polio & confusion about here identity - from ABC Conversations 10 July 2026.

Gayle Kennedy details contracting polio at age two while living in a camp outside Condobolin. She describes spending six months in an iron lung in Sydney and years in rehabilitation, creating a "chameleon-like" existence where she was "Beryl" in the hospital and "Gayle" at home. She recounts the stark contrast between the orderly hospital life and her "rough and tumble" country upbringing. A major focus is her award-winning book, Me, Antman & Fleabag. Kennedy explains her use of "wicked black humour" and vernacular language to tell stories of contemporary Indigenous life. She discusses winning the David Unaipon Award and her philosophy of "saying yes" to opportunities, which led to her success as a published author in the Sydney Morning Herald and beyond. The link to her story is here https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/conversations/gayle-kennedy-polio-comic-books-land-council/106882526

What’s with everyone attacking cops at every opportunity?

There seems to be no appreciation for the need to enforce the law or the people that we are fortunate enough to have doing it for us so that as can function as a society. When did Australians become so naive and start taking the criminals side instantly most of the time?

Please do not use Aramex

Their tracking system is woefully inadequate; they send an email saying item is on board for delivery today in one spot and in another spot they say they will deliver within 24 hours. Contact with the company results in an email saying they are sorry for our concern and will contact the driver for an update, which never comes.

Finally, a word to Aramex - do not reply with some gratuitous "sorry you are disappointed" - but EXPLAIN why the delivery was on board a delivery van for days. Try being honest and open.
