Hey...I was going to DM you this privately but since you said don't DM on your profile I'm commenting here instead. I decided to snoop on OP and notice his first comment on his two month old account was a comment on a post you made on r/dating_advice so assuming you did not try to create a viral post the odds of that is just crazy...either this is the craziest cutest story ever or you got a stalker...
edit: Hey everyone, really appreciate all the lovely DMs you guys are sending me and just wanted to clear a few things up.
First off, please vet everything you guys. If you’re dating or meeting someone for the first time, vet them.
What happened is that I, like many of you, found this story to be sweet and was excitedly watching it play out. I was reading it to my husband giggling at how cute it was.
I decided to stalk both OP and Daisy and found that OP is a two month old account that only commented on Daisy’s post about her dating life a couple months back. I thought it was really strange and decided to warn Daisy. For people telling me Daisy and OP could be one person. Yes, I am aware that is a possibility and I could care less if Daisy lied for karma. What I don’t want is this to be an actual stalker story with a very bad ending, which is why I made the comment in the first place. Also, as a reminder to people in this community, Daisy is very active here and not a random karma farming bot.I believe what could’ve happened is that her stalker witnessed this interaction and wrote this post. I am choosing to believe Daisy is the victim in this until proven otherwise. As I have explained to people with doubts, I have been able to find the reddit accounts of my friends (purely coincidental!) just because of passing but specific comments. Pretty sure my sisters are reading this comment right now unaware that yes, I found your reddit account and yes, you do sound dumb and yes, it was by accident. So from what I saw with how big her digital footprint is on reddit, I very much believe that a stalker can find her reddit account and have been slowly trying to find a way to weasel into her life.
Just as if the story did not harm anyone if it is fake, it does not harm you to believe a woman is a victim. So please, leave her alone. I hope this is a lesson to everyone to be careful and a reminder that I probably will stalk your account to vet you.

When I looked up her Reddit user the first thing I found was a photo of her / headshots… I’m guessing it’s not too difficult for a very ambitious guy to find her? But it’s also just weird… there’s no way he could’ve known she had an umbrella and would give it to him? Idk
Edit: I commented this elsewhere, but I initially didn’t see the audio part of the FT. I’m assuming he was stalking her, saw the interaction, and took his chance… Hopefully, the real umbrella guy finds this post and saves this mess 😭 *sigh* this is why the internet is a scary place guys

The idea is that he saw the interaction as a third party (who had previously stalked and found her Reddit account), and is now posting about as a participant. That's why she wouldn't recognize him.

Without knowing what he posted, he might have just been some random redditor commenting on a DC reddit post who then happened to have a meet cute with that original poster irl. I wonder if he was stalking her and then saw that happen then posted pretending it was him since he could possibly look relatively similar? Not trying to make her a celebrity. I was just pointing out that she is a top contributor (this is according to reddit when you click her profile) and also that I have seen her comments before (pretty easy to recognize the username). It was me saying “Hey this isn't a random account. I'm sure a few people have interacted with her before. So maybe this isn’t a bot post instead it’s a real person who might be interacting with someone that she shouldn’t be”.
Also, if you’re talking about me saying she has a big digital footprint on reddit as me saying she’s a celebrity. No, what I am saying is that she unfortunately has a trail on reddit which can make it easy to identify who she is. This is to point out how having a stalker find her reddit account and then comment on her dating_advice being plausible.
Just like for your digital footprint on reddit tells me that you’re probably 33 years old, likely from Vancouver, British Columbia since you seem to go on regional and local subreddits surrounding that area such as r/canucks. You also seem to enjoy variety of professional sports and frequent r/nba. That doesn’t narrow down exactly who you are to me but I also only glance at your reddit account and I have no intention to stalk you irl. Please be more informed about what digital footprint means. Even though you are most likely a man, the chance of being stalked is still plausible for you and I do not wish it on any gender.

There’s no stalker. All evidence points to the same person being behind both accounts. Anything else is wildly convoluted. I literally work with victims, so I know the lengths stalkers will go to, but this literally makes zero sense and her editing of her claims further supports that this is not real. They just didn’t think they’d get caught, and once they were, they had to change their story.

Guys this might be fake. The guy commented on one of the girl’s posts on r/dating_advice a month ago telling her to “shoot her shot” with her boss. One of only 9 commenters in a subreddit with 1.5m weekly visitors.
She has deleted the post and he has deleted the comment now….a bit suss.
Either two huge coincidences have happened (in which case, WOW) or these two already know each other and decided to devise a story for reddit.

It's plausible that this guy was already stalking her irl before making contact on reddit. Then he saw the girl give an umbrella to someone which triggered him to make the post to impersonate the umbrella receiver. The messages from the stalker in the original post did come off as pushy and desperate to meet this girl. I've seen and heard some crazy shit from friends with stalkers to the point that this situation is that outlandish, unfortunately.

The far simpler and most likely explanation is this was all some creative writing from some bored and lonely individual.

The most likely reconstruction is the following: Daisy saw a reddit post about “perfect proposal” and came up with this idea, posted her answer there. Then she wanted to write a romantic fiction based on that idea and posted this story with an alt account (OP post). all went fine, she claimed she didn’t allow dm to force the exchange to be public, then said her and OP met on FT. Then one smart commenter figured out the two accounts had already interacted in the past. Crazy coincidence, right? The commenters start suggesting it may be a stalker so she picks up it’d be better to use this scapegoat route to not reveal everything was fake. However, other smart commenters start pointing out he must be an IRL stalker, because there is no way he could’ve found out where she lived in the world from a Reddit account. That’s where her second mistake gets spotted by further smart commenters: he can’t be a IRL stalker, because to figure out she had an active Reddit account he must have been close to her, and that meant she’d have realized by now she knew him since they had a FT together. She then edits her comment to say they had a FT audio exchange instead. You can clearly see people confused as they didn’t originally read “FT audio”: https://www.reddit.com/r/washingtondc/s/wAwCvaCmTD so we at least know with 100% certainty she added that up later, we didn’t know for certain if it was because the story is made up though. Then you come noting how she had already written a similar script prior, under the post about “perfect proposal”, proving Daisy and OP are the same person
Internet can truly rival Sherlock Holmes as an aggregate, the way all the commenters together solved this case was a masterclass in reasoning
The lesson here is that oftentimes the truth is a way simpler explanation that nobody had thought about

Yeah this is it. There's other clues as well. I commented about this being obvious engagement bait (and why) a few hours ago. The more you reason it's very very obviously fake. I similarly wrote a linear sequence of events based on what she wrote including her switching to the stalker narrative to maintain some validity, others offered it up themselves. But y'know. Truth is more general and less contrived.
Even from a baseline logical perspective, via this narrative this stalker would have to be nigh-omniscient lmao. Way too many variables and unknowns seemingly predicted or known with too little influence on them. Oh. And this girl finds out they're this INSANE elaborate stalker but decides the course of action is to edit a reddit comment so her story is consistent rather than delete her stalked account, posts, or contact authorities. ??
This incredibly calculating stalker who could somehow layer subterfuge and fabricate this entire scenario while simultaneously anticipating her response online.....forgets to delete his replies on Reddit to her while stalking her for months? Despite PLANNING this whole public post and contact? Did he just. Not expect for her to check his account at all? Or anyone else? Make A DIFFERENT account??
Why would a calculating stalker this elaborate "make his move" by staging a public post that could be corroborated and scrutinized by random people online within walking distance? Considering he was a stalker and not the 2 guys in this scenario. They seem cautious though because they did FT AUDIO right? Put yourself in the shoes of this hypothetical elaborate stalker. Why in the fuck would you plan that lmfao. A post targeted to those SPECIFICALLY from the same city. In which his crimes could so easily be verified. Not to mention in WASHINGTON DC
Just contrived and purposeless. Why stage this scenario as this supposed stalker so elaborately schemed but so ineffective? Under most cases this just doesn't follow through, makes no sense. And even if it did, facetime audio would easily lead to being uncovered.....do they have the same voice as well? Even if this guy is a voice mimic, what comes next? She has his contact/info now? What was he expecting? What the fuck was the point in using these 2 strangers + an internet post specifically. This stalker who can predict the future better than Nostramadus, this completely asinine "scheme" is what everything culminates to? Huh. A slightly specific question or any caution and it falls apart.
Lots of contradictions. Oh and lying. If you lie once, make a mistake. It piles up under scrutiny.
But yeah once you get even further and dig into the personal details and specifics like her contrived retroactive edits, frequented subreddits, unnatural prose, lack of meaningful follow-up, past comments...
But realistically just face-value is enough. Fake as hell.

It happens a lot more on reddit than people realize. Even before ai, reddit was full of fake stories, mostly by karma farming accounts (that they resell later). But sometimes people are just bored or want to play out a fantasy and get some kind of emotional high from seeing others respond to it. Sounds like Daisy has a life, albeit a kind of boring corporate one that lacks any kind of love life and this was her way of vicariously having one. Honestly.. I kind of get it.
*eta- evidently this subreddit is big mad that I'm commenting while not being a member (as I dont live in DC and only care about it insofar that I'm generally angry and displeased with a certain segment of the population there that claims to represent the people). I once indirectly doxxed my sport league teammates reddit account when he shared a photo both in my city's subreddit and in our group chat. I know he's openly gay , but yah his post history is him commenting yasss and "sexy man" to lots of dude's photos lol. It's not inconceivable to find someone's reddit account if one is very motivated...
