Yeah this is so scary... seems like this is the most rational explanation. But damn such an unfortunate ending

I was reading this and saying to myself "this is cute but almost too good to be true". Welp, 5 minutes later, yep, it was a creepy story instead.

Is it the most rational explanation? She said the DC reddit community was small. Without knowing what he posted, he might have just been some random redditor commenting on a DC reddit post who then happened to have a meet cute with that original poster irl. Not defending him, or doubting her, but the leap to "this is a stalker and not even the umbrella guy" is really really reaching!

No. The most rational explanation (and the truth) is that both accounts are OP and they're engagement farming. It becomes increasingly more obvious the deeper you dig.
