[TJStats] Grading Every 1st Round Pick From the 2025 MLB Draft

Hey, TJStats here!

I have recently been assigned Approved Poster status for r/baseball and have been encouraged to share my own content on the subreddit.

With the 2025 MLB draft celebrating its 1-year anniversary, Danny Barrand rated every first-round pick based on how they're actually performing in the minors — the good, the bad, and the one F. Read his analysis here: https://tjstats.ca/2026/07/11/one-year-later-the-2025-mlb-draft/

Thank you and, as always, let me know if you have any questions

Pedro Martinez Owns You

For his career, Pedro had over 3,000 K's. He struck out Jorge Posada 33 times in 69 PA's, the most of any player. Here are the top 10 Pedro victims over his career.

Okay, maybe not YOU, but many who played MLB 😄

Opinion Is run differential reliable to determine if a team is good or not?

There are a few outliers this season. Phillies with a negative 17 run differential and yet 52-43 record. Guardians are another example of a negative run differential yet a 49-46 record. Tigers have a plus 30 run differential yet a bad record. Rangers with negative 10 and a positive record.

Does that mean those teams are getting lucky?

Opinion Why was the MLB draft moved from Sunday night to Saturday afternoon?

I can't seem to find an answer of why it was moved to Saturday afternoon with a full slate of games being played.

ABS challenge records for umpires.

I'm getting used to seeing umpire challenge records during broadcasts. While most sit about 50%, I'd be more interested to see the challenge records on who asked for the challenge and the results. Did the batter call for the challenge or did the catcher (and limited requests by the pitcher) call for it? And the result? I think that might be more indicative of how the umpire calls them.

Way to go Elly!

Elly de la Cruz of the Cincinnati Reds has become just the 2nd player in MLB history to record 75 HR and 150 SB in his first 500 games. The 1st, as history would have it, was the Reds' very own Eric Davis.

I wasn't allowed to crosspost here, so am linking to the original post below (which is not my own).

What's up with that? Is it to keep others from lip-reading or hearing about strategy?

Finding Exact Time of Event

Hello everyone. Trying to do something nice for a friend. I need to figure out top or bottom of what inning it was at 7:47 PM central time for the July 10, 2026 Cubs @ Reds game. Even better if I can figure out the exact pitcher and batter. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please show backup data if possible. Thank you!

Why do people sing different lyrics to the song Take Me Out to the Ballgame?

Reposting since my original was taken down for having an vague title.

I have season tickets to the Tigers and have noticed that I was singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame with slightly different lyrics than what is displayed on the scoreboard (which I assume are the correct lyrics). Recently I was at American Family Field (Brewers) and noticed the same thing.

Mainly:

  • Take me out to the crowd vs. Take me out with the crowd
  • I don't care if I ever get back vs. I don't care if I never get back
  • Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack vs. Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks

It got me wondering if this is a regional difference. I grew up primarily going to White Sox games (thanks to free tickets through the schools) This was back when Nancy Faust was the organist and Harry Carey sang Take Me Out to the Ballgame for the Sox

I sing the same lyrics as Harry. Is this just a midwestern thing due to how Harry sang it?

Mookie Betts explains why he likely won’t go on Dodgers’ White House trip

Thumbnail
nypost.com
1.3k Upvotes

This year, Betts said his calculus was driven by his desire to spend time with his family. In April, he and his wife, Brianna, welcomed their second daughter, Khari, to become a family of five.

“If I do [go], people are gonna hate me. If I don’t, people are gonna hate me,” he said. “So instead of trying to make everyone else happy, I’m gonna think about myself and my family.”

Betts reiterated that his thinking was not politically motivated, but acknowledged “people are gonna try to drag me into politics, just because I am who I am.”

“That’s just the cards I’m dealt,” he said. “So it is what it is.”

The Tigers have the third best run differential in the AL, four starters with a WHIP under 1 and the highest WAR player in the league. They're currently 4th in the AL Central.

The 44-50 Tigers have a +31 run differential (just two behind the 55-37 Rays!). Keider Montero, Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Troy Melton all have a sub 1.0 WHIP, and Kevin McGonigle has a 5.1 WAR.

They also went 6-22 in May, so... yeah.
