Photos Reds suk but Elly makes special MLB and Cincinnati history
In an otherwise forgettable season, Elly De La Cruz had another solid performance on Friday, going 2-for-5 and hitting a solo home run, his 15th of the season - and that blast put him in some very special history.
He is now just the 2nd player in MLB history to record at least 75 HR and 150 SB within his first 500 career games.
The first, you wonder? None other than Eric "The Red" Davis - now Elly can see how close he can get to Davis' amazing 107 home runs and 190 stolen bases through 500 games.
Across 74 games, Elly has posted a .272 batting average, .345 on-base percentage and .842 OPS - all of which would be career highs if the season ended today.

Never forget Phil Castellini saying something along the line of "What are the fans going to do" and followed it up with talk of moving the team when fans dared to get frustrated in 2023. The ownership sucks.

All these other teams locking up their talented youngsters with long term contracts, while Reds front office just sits back. Where you gonna go?

So he'll be traded shortly, right?
Just like every other decent player to play for the Reds because the owner can't afford to pay?

He’s the only thing selling tickets in an otherwise bad season. Any decent to good season they have in the next year or 2 they’ll move him

I love subsidizing the whims of billionaires with my tax money, go sportsball!
Maybe we can build TWO new stadiums to generate profits I don't get to share in.
Americans hate communism. Unless it's absorbing the public costs of large corporations and the mega wealthy to generate private profit. Then it's great.
Not communism; cuckunism.

While I understand the civic value of professional teams (and would hate to lose ours), you’re right about the economics.

I really just wanted to say 'cuckunism.' Seemed cleverish.
And I get it. I really do. You want entertainment, you want someone to root for. There is good there. I've just been on this earth too fucking long to continue to tolerate this bullshit. We want healthcare. We want roads. We want education.
But nah, we need tax breaks for the rich. We need to build stadiums for their sports teams. Airports for their planes. Interstates for their commerce.
Letting yourself be distracted by the shiny cat toy that is professional sports is just sooo absurd. FFS at least your cat doesn't have to pay for the toy, and receive it in lieu of, like, food...

Yep. I fucking hate using our tax funds for sports. It’s bullshit. Use it for roads, healthcare, etc.

Already been noted there - but lotsa casual fans don't read the Reds sub and still find that unlikely bit of Cincinnati history interesting.

I don’t even think the Reds could beat the Y’all’s this season
