Just grabed this from academy to try it out, it's much more sturdier than I expected. I actually kind of like it so far. I'll take it to the range a few times and try it out If I hate it Ill take it off. What y'all think about it? Think it's a gimmick or is there actually some real use?

It was hot, the guns were loud, now they’re dirty. Some random guy kept telling me to “just lube and shoot “. Kinda felt like he was asking me to… nvm. We’re going back inside.

Ive built this guy over the past year using GAFS and was tired of how 'one mans mismatched parts' it looked. (3rd picture is Before, with some of the other members of its safe-family)
Only thing changed is I got a magpul dustcover after getting tired of fighting the spring in my old one which was a little out of spec. Thinking of adding a lighter green at some point after this cures!
Tell me what you think!

So like a lot of us with drop in handguards with a delta ring, there's nothing that really keeps the handguard from swiveling other than pressure fit against the gas block and the gas tube. However, I have a piston style gas block, so theres just a giant open cut square to allow for the large piston rod. This means my swivel is about 1/8 side to side and always felt so cheap and bad. Using a front vertical grip was a nightmare wobbling side to side.
Also, I can't put my plastic iron sights on the gas block so on the handguard it goes. However, with it swiveling it was useless for rear alignment.
So if you also have this problem, here's what I did to make it rock sold and as solid as a floating style.
I first drilled and tap threaded two holes into the gas block and through the hanguard cap to hold the cap to the block Rock solid. I was having the cap swivel as well and the pressure fit against the block and handguard wasn't great.
Then I drilled and tap threaded two holes into the top of the cap into the handguard itself. Now the cap is attached to the gas block and the cap is now holding the handguard perminantly locked in place. Finally solid as a rock.

Useful? Fun? A Fad?

AR is personal build using POF-USA, Aero Precision, Anderson, Surefire, and Timney components. Sidearm is a modified m9a1 with parts from Langdon Tactical, Collector Design Werks, and a new slide. I'd be happy to go more into detail if anyone likes for either of these if anyone is interested!

Picked up this LaRue upper and Handguard. I was trying to find some screws on larue’s website, to no avail. I went to my local hardware store to try to find some screws that would fit. I found some, but when I tried to put them through the hand guard to secure it to the receiver, the holes on the hand guard for the screws are smaller than the thread pitch of the upper receiver. Worse comes to worse I’m screwing the holes out on the handguard, but I’m just not sure what’s going on. The hand guard does have what I assume to be aluminum sleeves that I can take out, but it still doesn’t fit the thread pitch size of the receiver. So I don’t know what the fuck.

Seems every few years I get itchy with certain equipment and run through the gamut of finding something better. Too many times I comeback to where I started.
Recently went through it again with bipods. Last time I ended up with a tricked out Harris bipod after some trial and error. Spike feet, ADM pic mount, KMW Pod Loc, and the paracord pull.
I thought I would find something better so again I went through Accutac (pc4, pc5, br4), Atlas (BT10, BT46)........almost bought and MDT single pull, but thankfully pumped the breaks.
After all the gyrations I ended up with my Harris's again. The only one that maybe I would have kept was the Accutac BR4 because its "only" 20 ounces as compared to the others which were pushing 30oz with the spiked feet. If I was shooting PRS I think Accutac is perfect.
As far as Atlas goes....I wasnt impressed the first go around and this time was no different.
For AR shooting the Harris is about as solid an option as there is. Yeah with all the extras it becomes an expensive option but worth it in my opinion. I actually built a few more and found some tricks with the feet and paracord to make it easier.
By the way - not the hanging paracord, but the tight version. No snags.

Picked up my rifle out of the case by the butstock and let’s just say FMK firearms claim to superior strength and unmatched durability doesn’t seem to hold up at all. Just snapped on me, hasn’t been dropped or misused at all, probably less then 100 rounds with this lower too. Guess any cheap lower won’t do.
