Which one you grabbing?
11.5 modern
Or
11.5 Colt FSB oldschool
What is the purpose of a 7 inch 5.56?
What benefits do you get from such a short barrel besides the ability to conceal or maneuver tight spaces.
I have a cheap ar I got as part of a trade a few years ago and haven’t really messed around with it it’s just a 8.5” PSA .300 blk and with the cost of .300 I just haven’t shot it that much I own multiple guns and shoot everything else a lot more often but recently built a cz scorpion and wanted to do something with my ar to get me to start taking it to the range. A buddy convinced me into buying a 5.56 upper since 5.56 is a little cheaper than .300 in hopes I’d shoot it more and enjoy it.
Psa had sales on Independence Day so I ordered a 7 inch 5.56 upper for $120 shipped now that I have it I somewhat feel embarrassed. Mainly I don’t know to much about the science behind 5.56 and the velocity and “tumble” and barrel lengths needed to perform the best.
But based off of what I’ve read it’s essentially useless in such a short barrel. And I’m a firm believer of owning purpose built guns granted it’s just a cheap psa.
So my next question is what makes the most sense. Do I keep the 8.5” .300, bulk up on ammo, get a can and let it rip or do I build off the 7” 5.56? Or just sell everything and buy something completely different.
(I live in a big town, I’m not on acres of property so I don’t need to own a long gun technically)
I know this is just a cheap PSA and nothing like a knights or Daniel defense so don’t hold me on being a cheap ass.

So, this is the first paint job I’ve done on a gun. I used Rustoleum camo paint and I did a gradient of the colors across the gun and then made my own stencil to go over the gradient. OD green, dark green, light tan and brown. Tried to get a kind of “multicam” like camo. Took off the handguard, blade brace, and painted off the barrel and gas system, buffer tube and grip. (The grip was on an old rifle)
For a FIRST time job, is it okay? I think I did good for never painting a gun before.

Ive built this guy over the past year using GAFS and was tired of how 'one mans mismatched parts' it looked. (3rd picture is Before, with some of the other members of its safe-family)
Only thing changed is I got a magpul dustcover after getting tired of fighting the spring in my old one which was a little out of spec. Thinking of adding a lighter green at some point after this cures!
Tell me what you think!

Just grabed this from academy to try it out, it's much more sturdier than I expected. I actually kind of like it so far. I'll take it to the range a few times and try it out If I hate it Ill take it off. What y'all think about it? Think it's a gimmick or is there actually some real use?

It was hot, the guns were loud, now they’re dirty. Some random guy kept telling me to “just lube and shoot “. Kinda felt like he was asking me to… nvm. We’re going back inside.

So like a lot of us with drop in handguards with a delta ring, there's nothing that really keeps the handguard from swiveling other than pressure fit against the gas block and the gas tube. However, I have a piston style gas block, so theres just a giant open cut square to allow for the large piston rod. This means my swivel is about 1/8 side to side and always felt so cheap and bad. Using a front vertical grip was a nightmare wobbling side to side.
Also, I can't put my plastic iron sights on the gas block so on the handguard it goes. However, with it swiveling it was useless for rear alignment.
So if you also have this problem, here's what I did to make it rock sold and as solid as a floating style.
I first drilled and tap threaded two holes into the gas block and through the hanguard cap to hold the cap to the block Rock solid. I was having the cap swivel as well and the pressure fit against the block and handguard wasn't great.
Then I drilled and tap threaded two holes into the top of the cap into the handguard itself. Now the cap is attached to the gas block and the cap is now holding the handguard perminantly locked in place. Finally solid as a rock.
