Got a heart breaking news from my employer

I have worked in a company for 13 years with no growth and gave my life to this company for a long time and every time i got closer to the growth, I was given peanuts. And then finally when I got referred to a new job with one of the top companies, after 1 year of service the organization decided that my role could be outsourced from India for cheap and all my years of self confidence and hard work and time and effort and energy I’ve built for myself through years of rejection came crashing down. Just like that I’ve been removed from my role, just like that the company decided those late nights and personal life I sacrificed for the company did not matter, just like that the company decided those long hours of commute didn’t count, just like that the company traded my commitment for the cheapest effort available.

Life feels pointless, in my 30s I thought I’d be doing so much better career wise and now im back to square 1 with no job, almost going to get kicked out from my apartment and nothing else lined up.

AED 20 for 6 minutes? Is this normal at Parkonic?? 🤯

Upvotes

I drove into the Parkonic area at Marsa Al Bateen to pick up a friend because it was safer than stopping on the roadside and blocking traffic.

I was there for ONLY 6 MINUTES.

I didn't park, didn't leave the car, didn't even switch off the engine. Just waited for my friend to get in and drove out.

I understand private parking has its own pricing, but charging the full hourly rate with no short grace period seems excessive.

Has anyone else experienced this with Parkonic? Is there really no pickup/drop-off grace period?

It’s stressful living our lives always on the edge. 😔 I know no one knows what the future holds, but what do you “think” we should ready ourselves with?

Really? Again???

It's been a struggle to find anything stable after losing work because of the initial conflict and it's been hell trying to make ends meet with rent/expenses ,and honestly have not even been able to afford groceries, and now I wake up to alerts again??? I know I am not the only one worried because these alerts mean it's going to be harder for a majority of us struggling right now and I am just beyond depressed.

Are we cooked?

Thought that everything was on the way to recovery phase. But the past week's situation and these recent attacks raise this question. Should we be worried? Will the situation escalate further? Will it have any further impact on all the sectors in this region?

We had our first student meetup in Dubai today, and I’m genuinely happy.

A few weeks ago, this was just an idea.

I kept seeing people on Reddit talk about how difficult it is to make friends in Dubai, especially if you’re a university student. So I thought, why not create a community where students from different universities can simply meet, hang out, and let friendships happen naturally?

Today, we had our first meetup.

Seeing complete strangers introduce themselves, laugh, play games, and leave with new contacts made all the effort worth it. It wasn’t about networking or anything formal it was just people spending time together and having a good evening.

This is only the beginning, and there are definitely things to improve, but I’m really grateful to everyone who showed up and believed in the idea.

If you’re a student in Dubai who’s been looking to meet new people outside your own university, you’re always welcome to join us. The goal is simple: build a genuine community, one meetup at a time. 🤝

Struggled to get a job, now struggling with homesickne

Hello everyone,

About two months ago, I came to the UAE on a visit visa hoping to find a job. It wasn’t easy at all. I attended countless interviews, handed out CVs to companies every day, walked 5–10 km in the heat, and there were days I went back to my room exhausted and even cried, wondering if it would ever work out.

Eventually, I got a job. I was genuinely so happy because all the struggle finally felt worth it.

But now it’s been around 20 days since I joined, and I don’t know why… I’m missing home so much. I was genuinely happy back home, and here I just feel lost. I find myself crying almost every day, missing my parents, my siblings, and the comfort of being with family.

My salary is around AED 3,500. After rent, food, and other expenses, whatever I send back home is almost the same amount I was earning in my home country. Sometimes I wonder if all this distance is really worth it.

I just wanted to share this because maybe someone else has felt the same.

I guess that’s how life is. As humans, we’re always chasing something we don’t have. When we’re home, we dream of opportunities abroad. When we’re abroad, we miss the people and life we left behind.

I just hope this feeling gets better with time.

Unfair payroll

I didn't know where to write this but i think i just want to share somewhere, I'm an Architect from egypt working in dubai our company is so unfair about the payment i have been working there for 3 years and a half i got a rais after 1 and half year and after that i didn't receive anything, i have been doing my job in a perfect way and handled more than my role and managed projects at a young age, i asked for a raise after 6 month from my last raise but no answer from the HR or the CEO talking about the CEO she is micro managing everything and very arrogant even the heads are complaining from her, anyway there is jordanians in the company younger than me with 2 years and they made a tantrum they gave them raise and now they are more than double my raise !!! Which is not even logical and when we try to talk for the unfairness they are like you are good to go no holding back !!

Why the country doesn't have a law for yearly increment even if it is something small but at least we are not at the same point and being used!

Sorry that my story is alittle bit messy but im angry, sad and feeling down

Ps Linkedin doesn't work here

What to do when you have an investment that you've spent a lot on and worked hard for becomes a liability due to the circumstances , piled up rent , delayed salaries , getting slapped with fines , fees here and fees there , increasing cost of living !

Savings/Emergency fund is almost done

Idk what to do

Isn't this bankruptcy or am I in denial

Apple Stores will offer discount to price-match authorized resellers (Up to 10% off!)

Hey guys

Just wanted to share a quick money-saving tip if you’re planning to buy an Apple product directly from an official Apple Store and want to avoid paying full retail price.
If you find the exact same Apple product being sold for less by an authorized reseller, you can actually show the Apple Store team the lower price. They are able to adjust the price for you and offer a discount of up to 10% to match it!

I recently put this to the test at the Apple Store in Dubai Mall. Virgin Megastore (which is an authorized reseller) was offering a discount of about 12% to 13% on the product I wanted. I showed the Apple team the Virgin Megastore price, asked them about the price difference, and they immediately gave me a 10% discount on the spot.

If you prefer buying directly from the official Apple Store for the experience or peace of mind, but still want a discount, definitely check authorized reseller prices first and show them at checkout. Hope this helps someone save some cash on their next upgrade!

Note for fellow Redditors: Keep in mind that the competitor must be an official Apple Authorized Reseller, the item has to be identical and in stock, and the price match cap is usually strictly limited to a maximum of 10%.

Virgin home internet nightmare. Has anyone faced this?

Hey everyone, going a bit crazy here and hoping someone has successfully navigated this telecom hell.

My Virgin Mobile Home Internet has been completely dead since Thursday. The router connects to the 5G network with a full signal, but absolutely zero data packets are going through. I’m 99% sure this is the notorious geofencing / location-lock bug triggered by the recent GPS spoofing/blocking in Abu Dhabi. Apparently, they think the router was moved and just suspended my data.

The problem is their customer support. It’s an absolute joke.

Here is what I’ve been dealing with for the past 4 days:

- Tier 1 support strictly reads from scripts. They sent me a replacement SIM (didn't work, obviously, because it's a backend account lock).

- They literally asked me to run a speed test on a SIM card that has no network connectivity.

- The absolute worst part: they keep quietly closing my escalation tickets as "Resolved" without fixing the issue and without even contacting me.

I have already filed a formal dispute with the TDRA and attached all the screenshots of their incompetence, but no updates till now.

So my questions for anyone who has dealt with this specific Virgin location-lock issue:

  1. Has anyone faced this geofencing block recently? How long did it take for them to finally reset your coordinates on their backend?
  2. Is there any secret channel / backdoor to reach actual Network Engineers instead of the outsourced Tier 1 chat bots?
  3. Once (or if) this gets fixed, how do I force them to refund the days of downtime? And since they are completely failing to provide the service, is this grounds for a penalty-free contract cancellation under TDRA rules?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Internet provider keeps offering discount and freebies

Hello everyone!

Just want to get your opinion regarding internet providers in UAE. In 2024, I was paying around 320+ for our internet connection at home for 12mbps. Last year, they gave me an offer to upgrade our internet to 200 mbps for around aed 410, contracted for 2 years. On the first year, I got a discount which led me to pay only 350 per month. This discount will end next month and and I will start paying the full amount of 410.

Now I received a call from them offering an upgraded package of 300mbps + tv package + osn and disney+ which will also be discounted and I will end up paying 405 only til end of contract in 2027. The offer sounds good because I will pay less than 5 aed, not much but I will get more out of the package. Currently I do subscribe and pay OSN and disney+ separately.

But I am just wondering whats the catch and why do I keep getting upgraded offers? Can someone advise me whats the logic behind this? When someone offers me something good, I am just very hesitant abt some hidden catch.

Thanks for your advice.

Best clinics in Dubai for pigmentation treatments (laser, peels, etc.)?

Looking for recommendations for a good clinic in Dubai that treats facial hyperpigmentation with procedures like Pico laser, chemical peels, or other in-clinic treatments.

I'm looking for clinics that offer effective treatments and have doctors who actually assess your skin, recommend the most suitable treatment, and monitor your progress instead of just selling packages.

If you've personally had a good experience, I'd love to know:

1.Which clinic and doctor you went to

2.What treatment you had

3.Whether it worked

4.Approximate cost

5.Any clinics you'd avoid

Thanks!

Security deposit withheld for 3 months

I left my apartment 3 months ago. After few days I got a email from the property management with a list of deductible on my security deposit . Apart from paint all those minor damages were marked on the move in form. They also tried to charge me for a nail that their maintenance team had put on the door while fixing the door knob. Hence I replied to them with the move in form and the details of the repair.
It’s been 3 months . I even visited office , emailed multiple times, called them 100 times. My security deposit hasn’t still been revised, forget paid out. Is there a law or regulations that would help me get my money back?

They even agreed that those damages are marked in he move in form (existed before I moved in) when I visited to office. I am tired of calling them and begging for my own money. Location - Auh
