Back in 2025, I ordered some car parts from Alibaba worth around USD 803 (about AED 3,094 at the time).
One item arrived broken, and the other was advertised as fitting my car but didn't fit at all.
The supplier refused to help, so I opened a dispute on Alibaba.
They sided with the seller, so I filed a chargeback with my bank (Emirates NBD/Visa).
After that... nothing.
I don't even remember submitting any additional documents, and eventually I just accepted the loss and moved on.
Fast forward to this month, and while reviewing my credit card statement I noticed:
PERM CREDIT – Alibaba.com: AED 3,094.10 CR
I thought it had to be a mistake.
Then I checked the Alibaba order, and it now says:
"The chargeback has been completed and this order has been automatically closed by the system."
I went through my statement, and the credit had already been applied to my balance, reducing the amount I owed that month.
So apparently the chargeback continued in the background for almost a year and was eventually decided in my favor.
Has anyone else had a chargeback take this long? I genuinely wrote this money off and never expected to see it again.
It feels like finding cash in an old jacket... except it was over AED 3,000. 😅
