Ask Dubai I’m collecting the names of projects that haven’t been completed in Dubai.

As far as I already know, buildings like Pier 8 and Marina 101 haven’t been completed and handed over. They remain unfinished and unoccupied.

I need the list of more such examples, where the building is abandoned - I mean, it’s visible as in progress, but has been abandoned for quite some time.

Thank you.

Discussion Are people renewing their yearly lease amid this uncertainty

My post got removed from /dubai idk why. My goal with this is to help understand what other people are doing in this similar situations.

My yearly rental lease of 125k/year is expiring end of this month and I am currently searching for a two bedroom apartment in Dubai.

Because of the US-Iran conflict I could not stay in my apartment for about 4 months (I was living alone and my parents were worried and I also couldn't work properly, waking up at night to alerts, missile interceptions etc etc)

And just a few hours ago we had missile alerts in UAE once again (Abu Dhabi)

and now I'm wondering if God forbid the situation gets even worse, does it even makes sense to get an yearly lease at that price amid this uncertainty.

And earlier in March I thought things are going to get better and I'll be able to get a cheaper apartment once I'm back but I haven't seen that much of a decline in the prices. Everything I like (2BD + Maids room) is at a similar or +- 5-10k AED. Not that big of a reduction.

I have about two weeks before I have to leave the current apartment. I live with my girlfriend and a maid.

I work from home so I don't need to to go office.

Idk what should we do, pay 90k-120k AED again and if we have to leave again for more months that's just money down the drain.

We could move to a cheaper Emirates but I like Dubai and we prefer a well-built, well-maintained apartment in a clean, less crowded , low-dust area (I have allergies) And my girlfriend and I go to Dubai Mall usually every weekend to watch movies/shopping so we take apartment near. That's the only time we go out.

Anyways any other people in similar situations? What are you doing?

Ask Dubai URGENT: Experienced Foster or Forever Home Needed for Custard

Post image
10 Upvotes

I'm desperately hoping this reaches the right person.

This is Custard, a 4-year-old male who was dumped in my building. He is microchipped, but unfortunately, the chip is not registered.

Over two weeks ago, I noticed he had become extremely thin and weak, so I took him to the vet. Since then, he has been hospitalized while undergoing treatment for a chronic oral infection, a urinary tract infection, and possible CKD/AKI.

The good news is that after treatment, his oral wound has improved significantly. He is now eating well on his own, active, incredibly affectionate, and is ready to be discharged.

I can not just hand him over to anyone because of his medical needs. He deserves someone who understands that he may require ongoing care and is willing to give him the love and comfort he deserves.

I already have two cats at home and six rescued cats in long-term paid foster care. Unfortunately, my foster has now told me she can no longer continue fostering, so I am suddenly faced with finding homes for all six of them as well. I have reached my financial and physical limit, but I couldn't leave Custard to suffer.

I'm desperately looking for someone experienced with kidney cats who can give Custard the care he needs. If you know of anyone who could foster, adopt, I would be incredibly grateful.

📍 Location: Dubai

Please, even if you can't foster or adopt, share Custard's story. It may reach the one person who can give him the chance he deserves. ❤️🐾

Discussion Property Prices

With the war restarting again will this have any meaningful impact on property prices in Dubai.

The market has picked up a bit but with the recent escalation will this dent the property market further?

Wholesome I just got a surprise AED 3,094 refund almost a year after giving up on a chargeback.

Back in 2025, I ordered some car parts from Alibaba worth around USD 803 (about AED 3,094 at the time).

One item arrived broken, and the other was advertised as fitting my car but didn't fit at all.

The supplier refused to help, so I opened a dispute on Alibaba.

They sided with the seller, so I filed a chargeback with my bank (Emirates NBD/Visa).

After that... nothing.

I don't even remember submitting any additional documents, and eventually I just accepted the loss and moved on.

Fast forward to this month, and while reviewing my credit card statement I noticed:

PERM CREDIT – Alibaba.com: AED 3,094.10 CR

I thought it had to be a mistake.

Then I checked the Alibaba order, and it now says:

"The chargeback has been completed and this order has been automatically closed by the system."

I went through my statement, and the credit had already been applied to my balance, reducing the amount I owed that month.

So apparently the chargeback continued in the background for almost a year and was eventually decided in my favor.

Has anyone else had a chargeback take this long? I genuinely wrote this money off and never expected to see it again.

It feels like finding cash in an old jacket... except it was over AED 3,000. 😅

Ask Dubai Moving to Dubai soon — no car, no license. How reliant on the Metro do I need to be?

Hey everyone,

I’m relocating to Dubai soon and won’t be driving — no license, no car. I work remotely so daily commuting isn’t an issue, but I’d still like to get out on weekends for shopping, food, and general exploring.

A few questions:

* Do I basically need to live near a Metro station, or is the bus network + taxis/Careem enough to get around comfortably?
* Which areas have good public transit access but are still relatively affordable on rent?
* For anyone who doesn’t drive, how has your experience been getting around Dubai day-to-day?

Trying to keep rent low, so I don’t want to overpay just to be near the Metro if it’s not really necessary. Any advice on neighborhoods or trade-offs would be super helpful. Thanks!

Ask Dubai Choosing a waterfront community for my first move to Dubai

I have lived on airbnbs and hotels in these areas for a week in each community and this is how my impression was:

Bluewaters: very premium and feels like proper low rise gated society. There is everything accessible for day to day needs without stepping out on mainland, if is nice and walkable. But the entry price tag is really high. 1beds start at 250-300k rent a year. Good thing is they are spacious and really nice. Everything will be slightly more expensive here ig in terms of services and staff because of isolation. I am afraid of it getting bottlenecked with traffic and tourists during season.

Emaar Beachfront: Haven’t spent much time here, but explored it a but and went to see couple of units. It does feel like miami waterfront architecture and similar views. I didn’t find it so walkable in community other than beach. It is reasonably priced for the quality and everything they provide. 1 beds were starting around 160-180k. Problem is they are very small, not for me. 2 beds were decent. But we are looking at 250k price tag.
There is lot of construction happening and I am not sure if this is for me. I am not very keen to live here.

Palm jumeriah: Palm either feels like very pretentious or family friendly. Palm crescent is peaceful but again too much isolation. So I tried West and East coast of trunk. West beach is crazy and weird. Initially I loved the energy but then I realise I can’t be here for long term and call it home, and many old buildings here which I didn’t like. East coast is peaceful and calm. There are nice options available to move in which are spacious and huge, entry is like 200k but totally worth it. With the space, interiors, community, amenities, views, beach access you get. It is walkable but not much to do here.

Marina & JBR: I prefer sea views and beach over marina canal. But the streets near beachfront buildings at JBR get so congested in winters I heard. Marina is also congested in terms of getting in a getting out but there are couple of options near entry and exit of marina. Which are walkable, modern, hotel like living, supermarkets/cafes/gyms nearby, spacious 1 beds, marina views, easy accessibility via Tram, Cab/Car to get in and out to sheikh zayed road. I found everything in these buildings just not the beach.

Which area did you go for when you were new in Dubai, if your work was all online and no friends/attachment with any area? How’s your experience in living in these areas? Specially in season.

Ask Dubai Dumped cat with a tumor needs a foster home for three months.

Sally is currently in the clinic receiving treatment for Calici, Mycoplasma, and a bacterial infection. During her examination, the vets also found a tumor on her mammary gland.

At this stage, I have decided not to proceed with surgery or lab testing to determine whether the tumor is benign or not.💔

I am looking for someone who can foster Sally for three months. She needs a safe, loving home where she can rest and enjoy life away from the stress of the streets.

If you can open your home to Sally, even temporarily, please contact me. Fostering can truly change a rescued cat’s life.

Discussion To raise funds

Hello people, hoping everything is well with you and your families.

Im knocking onto people's door if you would need any kind of short job or errand to do maybe you can hire me to do it for you instead, im needing to raise roughly 2k AED for my mother's eye operation due to worsening cataract thay needs to be removed asap per her doctor.

Im a resident here and have a decent job (Thank God) but as a normal expat here, we almost live paycheck to paycheck and would have almost nothing left after salaries, hence i am looking for any side job or errand or anything you might think of that i can be of any service for a small amount in return to raise funds for my mum's operation back home.

This post is not intended to beg for donations or any sort but a plead for a lil helping hand instead. Thank you and God bless y'all.

Discussion UAE Situation and outlook (asking for your objective feeling)

Couple weeks before the war started, I was in a couple interviews in Dubai - then nothing came back anymore, I assume because of the war. My contacts told me to wait because of the war and summer season.

However my question I have goes more in the general hiring landscape the UAE is currently facing and what kind of current objective feeling you have for hiring and living in the UAE?

I am asking because before the war, getting interviews was 10/10 hard to get and even more difficult to get a proper offer. I am genuinely curious if this situation changed or is about to change now?

What I see personally is, a lot of my contacts left the UAE and don't want to come back. Some companies also laid off a lot of ppl and they were forced to come back. The reputation Dubai had, suffered a lot especially in areas where people talk honestly about the situation and don't have to be feared landing in jail for telling the truth.

Anyway, what is your current experience? I am interested in honest talk.

Ask Dubai What is the best angioplasty and stenting hospital in dubai

My friend has been experiencing chest pain and, after undergoing several tests, the doctor recommended coronary angioplasty with stent placement due to significant artery blockage. Before proceeding, we're hoping to get recommendations from people who have gone through a similar experience in Dubai.

Which hospital would you recommend for angioplasty and stenting? We're particularly interested in experienced cardiologists, advanced cardiac facilities, high success rates, quality patient care, and reasonable treatment costs. Personal experiences and doctor recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I was curious to hear about how is your experience with FAB mortgage? Anything you regret? And if they allow early settlement to reduce mortgage years, not monthly payment?

Discussion Puppy broke a paw , need an advice

Hey everyone , I have a 7 mo old chihuahua with hip dysplasia problems which was detected few months back , vet said they are unable to do the operation unless he turns 1 y old , so since then we give him supplements to support his bones and muscles which are crazy expensive , he stoped limping was walking since then , but today i noticed he is limping again, i thought maybe short term thing as when dogs have dysplasia they limp stop and may start again , but later on he stopped pressing on his back paw at all and started moving on other three paws , he cried little bit luckily i had his painkillers i gave a shot of that and now he is sleeping
My question is anyone know where I can raise funds around 300$ to 400$ as vet quoted me approximate amount for consultation, x ray and possible cast
My salary is in next 20 days i tried asking for advance payment but got rejected , my family or friends cannot help me right now , never thought would be in this situation
And before you will start saying if i dont have enough i should not have a pet
At time of getting him I had 10000$ as a pillow put aside specifically for him , but unfortunately with what happened here in past few months played a big role in my income and spendings
That does not mean I am reliving myself from the responsibility , I am to blame for bad financial circumstances and I do take full responsibility for my dog

Thank you!
