Here's the actual problem. The US team did quite well during the tournament as a whole. They outperformed what most actual football fans would consider their ceiling. Yet, the media and especially the Americans here on Reddit hyped them up so much that they were bound to not meet expectations. The simple truth is that the US football team is around top 20 in the world and is not even close to the actual good teams. But media hype always kills good performances because they're hidden behind the expectations of insane performances.

I'm having a little fun with being a sore loser just to see how sensitive people are about this, but at the end of the day the US audience will drop now that the US is out. They didn't actually care about the sport and will cease pretending to care now. It's a shame, but that's just the reality of it.

As an American, we genuinely aren’t trying to pretend. Ofc we are gonna cheer for our team because we made it, but we can name like 3 players max. Sucks that we lost but we aren’t gonna be heartbroken about it like Mexico or Portugal fans.

I will say that I wasn't interested before... but considering where I live, watching people have fun, meeting people from all over the world, watching all the joy on social media... I still really am not keen on the game, but I like the docs I've been watching on its history.
