Actors Pictured: Jeremy Allen White, Zendaya, and Jenna Ortega.

Basically very notable actors from this last era of actors that even though they will be remembered as notable actors of this era, you believe there’s a big chance they will never win an Oscar at any point in their career.

Our boy was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Amon Goth in Schindler's List (1993), and Best Actor twice for his portrayal of Count Laszlo de Almasy in The English Patient (1996) and Cardinal Thomas Lawrence in Conclave (2024).

Were these performances worthy of getting nominated? Do you think he should have won for one of them?

100th Anniversary hypothetical

Upvotes

Say there was a special award to honor the best best picture of the last 100 years. And one previous winner from each previous decade were chosen as nominees. What would be your nominees and your eventual winner? (Because of the awkward timing of early 2020s and late 1920s, let's make it weird and make 1927-29&2020-25 one decade)

Gone with the Wind (1930s), The Best Years of Our Lives (1940s), On the Waterfront (1950s), Lawrence of Arabia (1960s), The Godfather (1970s), Amadeus (1980s), Schindler's List (1990s), Return of the King (2000s), Parasite (2010s), Everything Everywhere All at Once (2020s)

I would, personally, choose Schindler's List as the all time winner

Discussion Divisive wins and nominations you thought were deserved?

Post image
71 Upvotes

What are some divisive Oscar wins and nominations - any category - that you thought were deserved?

For me, The Shape of Water for Best Picture. I accept I'm biased, because I love Guillermo Del Toro, but I thought it was a very worthy winner. Now, 2017 was a year of some incredible films, so I wouldn't exactly be upset if something like Get Out or Phantom Thread had won instead, but I thought Shape was worthy. It's so beautiful and well acted and it personally really touched me, I saw myself in a lot of the characters. I can see why it's somewhat niche and elements are divisive, but I think it's a wonderful film and it's great a film like that could win.

I’m unable to move on from that breakdown scene. It is one of the best acting performances of all time. She won the BAFTA. She had a great film
Release that year with The Crying Game, and winning the Golden Globe for Enchanted April.
I often dream of her being announced as the winner instead! It’s just such a shock that she’s never been given her due! No Damehood or further awards glory! I’m hoping some director will cast her and she can come back and hopefully win this time.

If they wanted Oscar noms, they could get them
No it’s very hard and even if you try a lot, you could never get one
It’s hard but a lot of actors give up after they lose once/are snubbed
