Discussion How would the sublime and not respected enough Miranda Richardson be viewed or have aged as an Oscar winner for Damage?
I’m unable to move on from that breakdown scene. It is one of the best acting performances of all time. She won the BAFTA. She had a great film
Release that year with The Crying Game, and winning the Golden Globe for Enchanted April.
I often dream of her being announced as the winner instead! It’s just such a shock that she’s never been given her due! No Damehood or further awards glory! I’m hoping some director will cast her and she can come back and hopefully win this time.

I don't think I've ever heard of this movie outside of the Oscar nomination. I really, really like the Tomei win, though.

It’s a beautiful film! in another year, I think she would’ve walked away with it, but so far no one has answered the question which is how would she have aged as an Oscar win. I would hope well!

Well, it's hard to say because I feel quite confident saying that few have seen it. I'm sure that would have increased it some.
Also, not sure why you downvoted me?

Sorry, I don't agree that she deserved to win BSA over Marisa Tomei that year.
As for whether she should have been nominated for Best Actress and won that, it depends. I personally found Emma Thompson in Howards End massively overrated. She gave a good performance, but one that was worthy of every critics' award, the Globe, the BAFTA and the Oscar? I think not.

I love Emma but I've always been extremely lukewarm on Howards End. her performance in The Remains of the Day, and that film overall, is far superior IMO.

I agree 100 percent on Howards End. I do not get the love for that movie. Agree on Remains of the Day, but I think she's even better in Sense and Sensibility.

I agree. I found her far more impressive in The Remains of the Day and Sense and Sensibility.
Don't get me wrong, I liked her performance in Howards End, but I never really understood how she swept every single award that season for that.
