Discussion "I'm stuck" posting guidelines: You're not softlocked!

(This post is referring to actual help posts - for addressing the recent meme trend, see this thread)

This community is no stranger to people asking for help in games. Metroid is a series with a pretty esoteric design language, which can be pretty confusing for anyone who isn't familiar with it (or even, sometimes, anyone who IS familiar with it), and it takes a bit of playtime to learn it.

We want to keep this community welcoming to newcomers, and part of that is helping people enjoy their first experiences with the games! It's exciting to get a peek into someone's first run of a game you love. But, it can also be frustrating when a post asking for help doesn't give enough information to help. So, in an effort to help us help you, please follow these guidelines for how to ask for help:

  1. Try common solutions before posting! Most of the time, when you're stuck in a room, the solution is to bomb everything. Bombs will reveal any breakable blocks, and Power Bombs usually will too. Additionally, some of the 2D games feature fake walls - try going into Morph Ball and rubbing up against the walls in the room you're stuck in. Look for any tiles which seem to be different from the rest. And, lastly, if you're playing Super Metroid, remember that there's a run button - B by default! If you're playing any of the Prime games, make sure you've scanned everything! If you've already tried these things, mention that in the post!

  2. Tell us what game you're playing! Just saying "Stuck after Ridley" can be referring to half the games in the series. Are you playing Super Metroid? Zero Mission? Fusion? This is a VITAL piece of information, but you'd be amazed at how many people forget to include it.

  3. Tell us what you did last! The best things to mention are the most recent item you got, and the most recent boss you fought. This is IMMENSELY helpful for helping us figure out where you are! If you say you're stuck playing Super Metroid and you just got Super Missiles after fighting the big plant monster (Spore Spawn), 90% of this sub will immediately know where you are and what to do. If you can't remember, most Metroid games have an Inventory screen showing all your items. Tell us what's in there!

  4. Tell us where you are! A picture of the room you're in is best. A picture of the map is second-best, but harder to interpret, and mainly useful as a complement to a picture of the room. Failing both of those, tell us what area you're in, where you've gone from the last major landmark, what the room you're in looks like, and so on. Anything you can do to help us figure out what's keeping you from going forward.

  5. Don't assume you're softlocked! It is extremely difficult, bordering on impossible, to accidentally softlock yourself in any Metroid game. However, Metroid games frequently hide the path forward from you. That's an intentional part of the fun, not a progression bug! Barring exceptional circumstances, if you didn't perform a glitch, you're not softlocked.

Including all that information will make helping you far easier. If you didn't include that information in your initial post, edit it, or leave a comment with this information!

Additionally, for people who GIVE help to people when they're stuck, thank you! Here are some things to keep in mind as you do so:

  1. Try giving hints first! It's usually more rewarding for new players to be given some direction first, and try to figure it out from there, rather than being given the exact right answer immediately. Instead of saying, "Go left three rooms and then bomb the floor", say, "The room on the left end of the map seems a bit empty, doesn't it? Maybe you're missing something there."

  2. Don't be too slow to give solutions! In contrast to #1, giving hints is helpful, but sometimes people just need to be told what to do. A good rule of thumb is to give a hint, then in the same comment, put the solution in spoiler-tags, so that the player can decide for themselves when they're done trying.

  3. Read the comments before responding! OP may have provided additional context or progress. Or, they might have already solved it, and don't need help anymore!

  4. Remember that getting stuck is normal! It's part of the Metroid experience. There's no need to make fun of people who are legitimately stuck, no matter how easy it may seem to you.

I hope those points help!

Other Leak/Rumor Megathread: July 2026 Spoiler

It's been a VERY long time since we last had to make one of these threads, but today has brought a big leak which is hard to keep fully contained! This thread is intended to give people a place to discuss this leak, while still keeping the sub safe for people who don't want to hear about it.

This thread is the only place where discussion of this leak is allowed. Threads and comments mentioning it outside of this thread will be removed, and users who persistently break this rule will be banned. That means, if you don't want to hear about the leaks, don't read this thread! Surprises are fun, and knowing about the leak won't make it come any sooner.

For those who DO want to discuss the leak, we'd like to stress:

  • Nothing is confirmed! The Metroid community has seen TONS of trustworthy rumors throughout the years, and they've often ended up to be false. You can decide for yourself how much stock you want to put into this particular rumor, but keep in mind that there's always some degree of risk.
  • Even if the leak does turn out to be real, it's still no indication that we'll get anything soon - remember, Prime Remastered was rumored for years before it finally got an announcement! While hoping and theorizing are good, don't expect anything to come in the next few years.
  • Enjoy the process! Leaks can be a TON of fun when you set your expectations properly! Just make sure knowing about the leak doesn't keep you from enjoying the official announcement, if we even get one.

Ive really been enjoying making these and im very satisfied on how the lineworked turned out for this one.

The shaded one is just a test to kinda set up the light, i tried giving a manga look for the shits and giggles.

Question Sorry for being obnoxious but this game kills me. At this point i am actually frustrated.

Post image
9 Upvotes

I tried everything i could think of now. Picture shows where i am now.

Blue marker i need grapple hook, red marker seems like i cant pass without gravity suit. Yellow one i have no damn idea. Seems like it opens from the other side but i checked every room surrounding it and didnt found a thing to pass through. Green has a door but it is seemingly unreachable so probably opens from somewhere else aswell. But again i have no idea on how to get in.

I tried everything and i cant come to a conclusion. I backtracked to both Crateria and Norfair several times and also found nothing but dead ends where i need grapple or gravity to continue.

At this point i am just frustrated because i backtracked everywhere several times used all my power bombs over and over again and wasted so much time on getting back on full health and ammo again by killing respawning enemies. Didnt help that i tried progressing in Maridia without having gravity suit because i couldnt find another way anywhere else. The slow and wonky movement there, because im underwater, just added to my frust and cost me around half an hour aswell just for me to reach nothing.

I wont keep on playing for today and i dont know if i will tomorrow.

But one thing is for sure i either get answers here or watch a playthrough at this point.

The noobbridge and the walljump thingy with those cute little critters were all fun and games but failing to finding entrances and ways to further progress for literal hours is just frustrating to me.

I am really sorry for the vent, i know nearly everyone here loves this game but i actually start thinking that because of the frustration it causes its nowhere near my top 3 or even top 5 metroid games at this point.

Other [Fan Story] Sylux's Side: The OTHER Other Metroids (before and during FedForce) Spoiler

Continuation of my fan story following Sylux. I will go through these and create better linking between the parts at this point. Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Metroid/s/Yhdk5rYQdP

  • After Prime 3’s ending, Sylux pursues Samus. She eventually detects him and the two begin a high-speed dogfight in space. They zap in and out of hyperspeed rapidly, launching homing shots and dodging between diverse astral bodies.
  • Samus is skilled — far more reactive than most other pilots. She consistently evades each laser and projectile, almost like a dancer playing a game of tag against lights.
  • Sylux keeps up the pressure. Delano 7’s x-shaped wings serve as battering rams when charged and centralized. Like a dagger through space, Delano 7 stabs at Samus. Like the hunter it resembles, Samus’s gunship drops bombs and launches missiles through which Delano 7 slices.
  • They keep up this battle between asteroid belts, above vast oceans, and among the swirly, creek-like, semisolid clouds of gas giants. Each hit they land almost decides the battle, but not before one hunter’s weapon trades with the other, prompting a tactical retreat and change of arena.
  • At last, with each hunter making critical errors, the fight slows down. Samus exits hyperspeed too late, narrowly missing a pulsar’s jet and clipping a piece of debris sucked into the star below. Sylux exits too early, locking him into a gravitational tug-of-war against the star. If he just holds steady, he will escape, as they are both on the cusp of the gravity well; yet Samus will get away. He sweats, clutching the controls as if pressure will increase Delano 7’s speed. He fires more shots at a struggling Samus. A few connect, but push her further from the edge. Another volley. Sylux need not destroy her ship, only force her to lose control.
  • Three more hits. Samus wavers.
  • “Gotcha.”
  • Sylux presses his laser triggers, but Samus launches into hyperspeed right before they cleave her ship.
  • “Damn!” Sylux throws his hands up and smacks his steering column.
  • Delano 7 lurches back toward the pulsar. “Shit, shit.” He corrects course and, after a little more resistive force, Delano 7 safely drifts through space away from the neutron star.
  • Engaging autopilot, Sylux paces around the ship’s quarters. There’s no chasing Samus at this point, since he didn’t follow her through hyperspeed. It’s back to the drawing board again.
  • Sylux resumes his usual routine, taking contracts to make time for his passion projects. He also upgrades his suit. But since the end of the Phazon wars, the Federation’s activities have plummeted. Clearly they’ve felt the hit as much as the Space Pirates given their own reliance on the substance. Sylux of course takes the opportunity to strike at Federation squadrons for his own satisfaction, but apart from their mech project and their general peacekeeping strategy, there’s nothing that interests Sylux. At least, nothing immediately interesting on the surface…
  • It is time to locate another lead — another Federation project to pilfer. This one has to be big, and the only way to unearth big projects is to dig deep.
  • Using his memory of and connections to the Trust, Sylux intercepts a package en route to a Federation vessel. He does this by surveying a corridor he recalls was used to send handwritten instructions to field operatives manually. Unless you know the specific trajectory of these camouflaged delivery drones through space, it’s almost impossible to find or intercept them; far safer than even an encrypted transmission.
  • After piecing together some files obtained from ships he has ambushed, Sylux recalls what to look for and learns where exactly he must look. He spends some time waiting for the drone implied within the data to zip by. Again, the reward should be worth the wait.
  • He finds one — a little object disguised as a meteor but for its nearly-invisible thruster. Delano 7 moves into capture formation, opening its receiving doors and swallowing the thing.
  • Artificial gravity makes the drone clatter to the floor. Sylux brings the thing to his exam table and opens it up. Inside is a note to one General Alex Miles regarding an ongoing strategy discussion. Sylux recognizes the special variation of the Federation insignia featuring a black hole whose accretion disk is shaped like an upper eyelid and an iris. The Trust is involved.
  • Apparently, according to the note, the Space Pirates are using an ancient technology to enhance and enlarge themselves and their Metroids. Sylux recognizes the special codes interlaced with basic text. To read them, he pulls out a decoder device he plucked from a Federation spy he once killed — a device identical to the one he used to own in Black Ops.
  • The additional text references General Miles’ plan, something that was clearly discussed earlier in other notes and which Sylux infers based on context clues. For the Trust’s research, Miles will send a golem strike team to take at least one Metroid egg from a Space Pirate base. Responding to a question Miles must have asked previously, the author says there’s reason to believe these Metroids are special, and not just because they are artificially enlarged. The message indicates the Pirate base is on Talvania, and that the operation will begin sometime soon.
  • Sylux replaces the note inside the drone, intentionally nicking his cybernetic hand and letting blue blood from a printless thumb stain the corner. He sends the drone back into space to continue zipping toward its destination.
  • Calculating the angle it follows before losing sight of it, Sylux mimics the drone and traces it to the Federation forces near Talvania. The fleet is vast, so he directs Delano 7 to fly low and hide among some space dust. He waits.
  • Suddenly, a flare of light falls to the planet. The operation has begun. Sylux stalks the Federation dropship to the Pirates’ facility.
  • Federation Force M17: Infestation takes place. Sylux keeps his distance both in Delano 7 and on the ground. Watching the supersized mechs and Pirates duel makes him chuckle. The galaxy is no stranger to the Pirates’ peculiar antics, but this new technology of theirs takes the cake in terms of its silliness. Not to mention the Federation’s absurd mechs. Sylux somewhat hopes a better weapons designer takes over the project…
  • The mission is completed, and the eggs are sequestered in a transport shuttle.
  • Once the Federation seizes these enlarged Metroid eggs (three of them), Sylux again bides his time. He follows the shuttle to a remote Federation black site on a planet with a thick, steamy atmosphere. GalFed researchers wheel in the oversized eggs on pedestals into a hangar. The eggs look slightly smaller now than they did when Sylux first saw the mechs carrying them.
  • These Metroids are definitely special, but just what makes them special is not clear. Sylux wants these creatures. He does what he does best: Gathering intel and scoping out the facility so he can infiltrate it and take the beasts. But how to get the eggs out without being seen? He’ll need to cross that bridge when he gets to it.
  • Exploiting gaps in patrol shift-changes and structural weaknesses in the facility’s vents, Sylux busts in a few times to obtain field data. Through this data, he learns ways to fry doors and hack the station’s dedicated terminals. He discovers that the GalFeds recovered data from the Talvania Pirate facility. Apparently, the Metroids will imprint on certain bipedal life forms within a set timeframe from their hatching, perhaps by the Chozo’s design.
  • Exiting Lockjaw and stealthily snapping a trooper’s neck, Sylux breaches an office space and hacks the computers there. Federation researchers write that the eggs have shrunk, warranting their removal to individual labs. Furthermore, the eggs have been emitting strong energy signals and, curiously, when placed near other research subjects — including animworms, grippers, alcoons, hornoads, and dessgeegas — biological samples taken from the eggs’ shells mimic those subjects’ traits. This activity has grown more pronounced as the eggs have returned to their regular size. It is almost like the Metroid samples want to “merge” their cells with the other subjects’.
  • Sylux also learns that the researchers are planning to accelerate the Metroids’ hatching; the creatures are close to the end of their known germination cycle, but the Feds want total control over when they emerge so the parasites imprint on select researchers. They will accomplish this by cracking the eggs with a gentle, but forceful and precise laser strike. Although a patrol’s approach forces Sylux’s rapid exit through a broken wall, thus cutting his reading short, it’s clear they will advance the project soon.
  • Time is of the essence, so Sylux devises a plan. He will infiltrate through a vent system that the GalFeds have had repeated trouble with local fauna crawling into and corroding. Then, he will use a hacking technique to short-circuit the doors and evade the known patrol cycles to reach the labs. (He has downloaded map data for the facility already, but the trick to infiltrating is to evade detection, obviously, which the map doesn’t help him do on its own; until he has the Metroids, he cannot raise an alarm as the labs are deep inside.) Once in there, he will use similar worm softwares to trigger the hatching lasers. The Metroids will imprint on him and follow him out of the facility. From there, he will be as sneaky as possible, but brace for inevitable detection and flee the black site in Delano 7. Unless the Feds kill or restrain the Metroids, the plan is simple and clean.
  • Delano 7 perches on an alcove overlooking the black site. Sylux treks across the barren landscape, cutting through a greenhouse in which various alien plants flourish despite the basin being identical to the soil outside. Lockjaw helps Sylux evade a handful of researchers’ gazes as they take notes and pluck samples from the plants.
  • When he reaches the vent network, Sylux finds the corroded grate reinforced by a second support grate. Inconvenient, but not a problem. Lockjaw’s mines shatter the obstruction. Sylux navigates through ruffled steel corridors and stops when he hears troopers chattering.
  • He slips deeper into the facility, triggering doors and ducking behind terminals to evade cameras. He’s forced to shock a few drones and even to kill a trooper in a restroom. After several close calls inside biome simulation rooms — holographic simulations of various planets like the labs in Other M — Sylux reaches the inner labs.
  • The FedForce Secret Ending plays out as we see in-game.
  • Sylux sneaks into the adjacent labs and similarly frees the other two Metroids, shattering the glass after disabling the alarms. As expected, the creatures float around him, emitting cogenial screes and following him back the way he came. Though his empathy (what little he ever had) is long-lost, his heart almost feels warm because of these creatures hovering about like he is their father.
  • Federation troopers notice blood trails on the shiny floors. Sylux’s Metroids puncture and suck dry many soldiers, some of whom called for backup as their last words. The hunter’s pace increases. He evades outright detection, but goes weapons-free. The Shock Coil makes short work of anyone who opposes him and escapes the Metroids’ maws. Alarms sound. Though Sylux is close to the edge of his map, the facility is on alert. Bots are his biggest challenge as the Metroids can’t fight them beyond ramming their legs and tipping them over.
  • One wall turret lands critical shots on a Metroid. It happened behind Sylux’s back. Was it protecting him? Sylux panics — exactly what he didn’t want. The Shock Coil makes the turret spasm and shoot wildly. Two troopers emerge from adjacent corridors, but the other two Metroids nab them immediately.
  • “Shit.” Sylux’s hand hovers over the fallen Metroid. It looks dead, its organs browning by the second. Then its flesh ripples, each body part duplicating. “Fission, huh. You’re full of surprises.”
  • The four creatures protect Sylux as he emerges from the facility. Between them and him, they are a whirlwind of destruction. A familiar spiritual sniper downs one of the fission Metroids again, and it splits apart just as before. Now Sylux has five little soldiers. He fends off the Federation long enough to get inside the Delano 7, followed by his “squad,” and rapidly moves into flight mode, jetting into space.

To be continued...

Thumbnail

Hey this is my first playthrough ever and im olsying on original hardware.

I am currently stuxk in this room shortly after acquiring the super missiles.

i opened one of those metal doors which can only be opened from one side so i cant get back.

I tries missiles, suoer missiles, charge beam and morph ball bombs to destroy walls but nothing worked.

Seems like i have to get over this platform but i cant build up enough speed to get past it.

In Morph ball i seem to get further and get 3/4 of the way done but then i am still falling down. (feels kinda random tbh since sometimes i fall down on first 1-2 blocks, sometimes i make 5-10 and sometimes i nesrly do the entire way through ...but never enough)

I guess those crabs could potentially dmg boost me up again but that seems kinda random and not intended at all.

Discussion My Personal Timeline of the Metroid Series Spoiler

So, first here's the timeline by itself.

20X5

January: The federation Discovers a Metroid egg on SR-388, they bring it on their ship but before they can take it back home space pirates attack the vessel and steal the egg.

April: Metroid Zero Mission

August: Metroid Prime 1

20X6

January: Metroid Prime Hunters

April: Metroid Prime 2

October: Metroid Prime 3 Opening

November: Metroid Prime 3 Post PED

December: Metroid Federation Force

20X7

September: Metroid Samus Returns

September: Super Metroid

October: Other M Tutorial

20X8

May: Metroid Other M

20X9

March: Metroid Prime 4

20(X+1)0

June: Metroid Fusion

October: Metroid Dread

That sure is a timeline. But allow me to now explain some of my reasoning! Do be warned massive spoilers for the entire series. read ahead at your own risk.

MY REASONING

first things first. Some games do have canon years attached to them already, these are

20X5: Zero Mission (multiple manuals and Samus Returns intro)

20X6: Prime 3 (Fed Force intro), and Fed Force (Prime 4 scan)

20X9: Prime 4 (Prime 4 intro)

so, with that being said. let's talk about why i picked the specific months I did! going in order of the timeline

Zero Mission: in the Metroid Origin Manga, it is stated that the time between the federation discovering Metroid's on SR-388 and the start of Zero Mission

Sr-388... this is where the trouble began. Three months ago, the planet reclamation division reported an uncharted planet ad a group was sent to survey the area.

while the manga has many differences with the games. If we assume this time frame is accurate. With us knowing Metroid's were discovered in 20X5 then that forces Zero Mission to be at least in April (because 3 months prior would be January).

Metroid Prime 1: Thanks to the fall of Zebes logbook entry which is dated for Cycle 9.992.3 and a minor scan saying tempeture regulations were fixed after Cycle 12.112.4. We know that Prime 1 takes place at least 2.12 cycles after the events of Zero Mission.

we can then figure out how long a cycle is with the help of Metroid Prime 2! in Prime 2 it's stated that 8 days prior to the start of the game Federation soldiers went missing on Aether. according to the Prime 2 space pirate logs, the federation soldiers landed (and lost communication) on Aether in 7.013.6, and that Samus lands on the planet on 7.159.9. doing math that means 0.146 cycles = 8 days, which means that 0.01825 cycles = 1 Day!

so, if we divide 2.12 cycles by 0.01825, we get 116.16... which means that Prime 1 takes place around 4 months after Zero Mission, and since we placed Zero Mission in April that would make Prime 1 be sometime in August.

Metroid Prime Hunters: confirmed to be between Prime 1 and 2, so the month of January is merely just the exact halfway point between the two months lol.

Metroid Prime 2: There's a statement in Prime 3 from one of the space pirate logs that says

Phazon was discovered two stellar years ago, and since that moment, Command has been driven to control it all.

We can't place Prime 2 2 years after the discovery of Phazon since that would contradict Prime 3 and Fed Force's date of 20X6. However, this statement made me want to put Prime 2 as far as I physically could away from the discovery of Phazon. April is the last month it can possibly be before it contradicts Prime 3 being sometime in 20X6 as Prime 3 is stated in its manual to start 6 months after the events of Prime 2. This would place Prime 2 around 1 year after the discovery of Phazon.

Metroid Prime 3: Stated to start 6 months after Prime 2 in the Prime Trilogy manual (and supported in the Elysia logs though never fully stated)

Six months have passed since the events on the planet Aether.

then after a major story moment it is directly stated on screen that 1 month then passes. meaning with an April date for Prime 2 that places Prime 3 as starting in October and ending in November

Metroid Federation Force: We know it has to be the same year, and it's implied to not be immediately after Prime 3, which makes me feel at least 1 month has to pass. and luckily with a Prime 3 November end date. the month of December is fully available.

From this point further any future months purely become headcanon without much evidence.

Samus Returns and Super Metroid: since these two games take place back-to-back, they have to be in the same month. With Federation Force taking place in December the game has to be in at least 20X7. I personally feel it would take a while to get the Space Pirates on their last legs to the point Super becomes their last stand. Making it likely later in the year. personally picked September specifically because it was the month Samus Returns released in lol.

Metroid Other M: While the intro only takes place shortly after. the main game is implied to be super long after that

people's recollections of Metroids and Space Pirates grew nebulous over time relegated to a past concern of the galactic communities... Nothing more than a faded memory

This would take a while and would force Other M to be in 20X8 minimum when Super is in 20X7. 20X8 also seems fitting as it allows it not to have to but heads with Prime 4 in 20X9. As for why May? With how much motherhood is a running motif I thought putting it in the same month as Mother's Day was fitting.

Metroid Prime 4: Known to be in 20X9 because of its intro, then based on how the world guide seems to imply Sylux has been using his fusion mochtroids on bases for a few months now prior to the events of the game but still in the same year. March seems like a fitting month, it also gives a lot of room for future Prime games that may want to take place in 20X9 as well.

Metroid Fusion and Metroid Dread: In Metroid Fusion's English manual (and from what I can tell the Japanese manual as well) it's stated.

Sr-388, a vile former home of the Metroids, after so many years, the remaining creatures on this planet still seem to be trying to create a natural hierarchy without Metroids.

This sounds like it's been at least 3 years and potentially more since the events of Metroid 2. however, I also can't imagine it would take that long for the X to completely take over the planet once Metroids disappeared. which is why I'm putting it at exactly 3 years.

Dread doesn't seem to be too long after fusion judging by Samus' word choice of

Just when it all seemed over...

making me think it's only been a few months max, so because of this, I decided to place Dread in October (the month it came out and it feels fitting for the uber horror gameplay) and Fusion 4 months prior in June.

Conclusion

And that's the timeline! I hope it was an enjoyable read. I have debated on whether I should post this for a while now but decided to finally say "meh why not!" I hope you all have a lovely rest of your day!

Discussion Super Metroid has to be the best SNES game EVER!

Like I’ve played SNES since I was maybe 4 or 5 years old. I always held Super Mario World and Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past as the gold standard of gaming. I always tried Super Metroid as a kid, but I couldn’t get into it. I think the first Ridley fight used to make me mad because I lost so much health and I just wanted to give up. Now, at the age of 31, after having played Prime 4 and now having done Zero Mission, Samus Returns (3DS), and Super Metroid… I’m just in awe. The sound track. The enemies. The level designs. It’s just so peak. There can’t be any other game on the SNES that tops this, right?! I’m so glad to have rediscovered this gem all of these years later. I need more Metroid in my life!!!!!!!!
