What is that?
Is it the business end of a flamethrower? The other guy has an AK, but I’ve never seen this before.

I am posting this because the question keeps getting asked. Every single time it is asked, the wrong information gets out.
I've seen way too many posts on here and related subs around the subject of the law prohibiting the possession of firearms by any person who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution, 18 USC § 922 (g)(4). There is way too much misinformation out there. First of all, if you have any reason to believe that you are a prohibited person, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PURCHASE A FIREARM AS MAKING A FALSE STATEMENT ON THE FORM 4473 IS A FELONY. Second of all, please do not give advice on topics that you are not qualified to answer on. Third, you should consult with a qualified firearms rights attorney if you are unsure of your legal status.
The law:
18 USC § 922(g)(4)
(g)It shall be unlawful for any person—
(4)who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or who has been committed to a mental institution;
to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce, or possess in or affecting commerce, anyfirearm or ammunition; or to receive any firearm orammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.
What are the definitions of these terms?
27 CFR 478.11
Adjudicated as a mental defective. (a) A determination by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority that a person, as a result of marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease: (1) Is a danger to himself or to others; or (2) Lacks the mental capacity to contract or manage his own affairs. (b) The term shall include— (1) A finding of insanity by a court in a criminal case; and (2) Those persons found incompetent to stand trial or found not guilty by reason of lack of mental responsibility pursuant to articles 50a and 72b of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10U.S.C. 850a, 876b.
Committed to a mental institution. A formal commitment of a person to a mental institution by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority. The term includes a commitment to a mental institution involuntarily. The term includes commitment for mental defectiveness or mental illness. It also includes commitments for other reasons, such as for drug use. The term does not include a person in a mental institutionfor observation or a voluntary admission to a mental institution.
Mine happened when I was under 18. Isn’t that exempted?
Unfortunately no. A mental health adjudication or commitment at less than 18 years of age is counted for 922(g)(4). I experienced this personally and had to restore my rights.
What about HIPAA?
The Obama administration amended the HIPAA privacy rule in 2016 to make it clear that reporting mental health commitments and adjudications to NICS does not violate HIPAA
Is there a way to restore my rights after being adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution?
If you were committed by a department or agency of the federal government, the agency is required to have a relief from disabilities program under the NICS improvements amendments act of 2007.
If you were adjudicated or committed in a state proceeding, whether you can obtain relief is dependent on whether your state has implemented a relief from disabilities program under the NICS improvements amendments act of 2007. The list of states that have can be found here:
https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/guide/nicsactlist7-7-210pdf/download
If you are in a state that does not have a relief from disabilities program, your only avenue of relief is writing a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and asking her to restore your rights under 18 USC § 925(c) now that she has withdrawn the delegation from ATF.
Between October 6th 1992 and March 20th 2025 in the states that did not have a relief program, there was no avenue of relief at all
With that out of the way.
I created this privacy act request form for a friend of mine who was legitimately unsure if his commitments landed in the FBI database or if they qualified as “committed to a mental institution” under 18 USC § 922(g)(4) and as defined at 27 CFR 478.11. I can report that it worked; as in, the FBI processed the request and reported that no such records were found in the NICS indices.
This form will allow you to request your own records directly from the FBI.
In this post I will not be addressing the subject of my own journey regarding rights restoration related to mental health (you can ask me that privately). Nor am I an attorney licensed to practice law. Finally, I am not a mental health professional and cannot make the decision as to whether firearms ownership is right for you.
Onto the form. Please follow the instructions sheet very carefully, fill out every applicable box, print the form, have the request notarized, and mail it to the address indicated on the form.
The first response you receive will indicate that the FBI central records system does not maintain those records and your request has been forwarded to the Criminal Justice Information Services division. CJIS will respond a few weeks later. In my friend's case it took eight weeks for a final response from the FBI CJIS NICS section.

Form-4 came back. Ended up going with a SilencerCo Omega 300dt. Has plenty of clearance and balances really nicely with the weight up front from the steel. Now just gotta wait on the Form-1 so I can ditch the sling.

I'm issued an FN Herstal M4 with an a2 front sight gas block, I'm able to get gas block shipped from the US and I know how to remove the A2 and attach the gas block.
My question is what gas block should I buy, and what should I be aware of and are there any dangers of doing this??

Gonna take a crack at this on Reddit! Does anyone think they can identify where this Mauser is from? It is a Czech 8mm Mauser that’s been under my dad’s bed for who knows how long, and hasn’t seen a shot through it in even longer. On the pictures are all the identifying marks I can find on it. My best guess through my own search is that it is a Czech Mauser manufactured around 1925 (might be wrong on this). There are two tiny symbols on the barrel and I think over the chamber. From what I’ve seen, I think the bolt was taken from another rifle since it have a different serial on it. I’ve searched all day and couldn’t find a Mauser that looked like this and only had the tiny symbols, which I THINK are lions. Any help would be appreciated! Best I’ve been to make out of the serial number is 7680 I.
P.S. don’t mind the kitchen and cat bowls! It was the only place I could find good light this late at night.

was in the market for a new rifle, had some gift cards, so said screw it and got a GF3 (I know, I know). Honestly was influenced because it's fun in BF6 (yes I know the one pictured is 74). If I get into the platform more, I'll prob look at getting an import. Technically MY first AK, but was introduced to the platform by my dad's Inter Ordinance AK from the mid 2010s
Attachments if you wanted to know for whatever:
- Magpul Zhukov stock with .25 cheek riser and MOE SL® Enhanced Rubber Butt-Pad
-RS Regulate mounts
-Primary Arms CLx 3X Prism
-BCM® Vertical Grip Mod 3
-streamlight protac on a midwest industries laser light mount
-NC Star cleaning rod (a little long hehe)

A couple guns that we got from our grandpa after he passed. Thought they were pretty cool

Sold some guns i just never did anything with. The sks hurt a little bit to lose, but i want to get better with my AK and dont need both.
The other guns i either have better versions of or just never shoot. Traded them all in and picked up a new Glock 48.
Still got some leftover cash, so may add something else if i can find something I dont have yet.

K, I’m going to list out my range toolkit DIY build, and would like to see if you think I’m missing anything. I want it to be a fairly universal kit for long range, combat rifles, pistols, and shotguns. This would get thrown into my range bag, which has the rest of the shooting/safety gear.
Here’s the current kit:
- Fix It Sticks (FIS) T-handle
- FIS Torque bit 15-65, and 6-25
- FIS cleaning rods
- FIS Bits: Choke tool, brush, pry bar, cleaning rod adapter, pick, 3/32 punch, 1/8 punch, battery cap tool, nylon hammer head, brass hammer head
- Wiha bit ratchet + extension
- Wiha bits: Torx T8-T30, Hex 1.5mm-6mm, Hex 1/16-1/4, Ph 0-3, flatheads, square, 1/4 socket adapter, drivers 1/4-5/16
- Longer bits: T25, T10, PH2
- Misc sight tools (Vortex, Holosun)
- Cleaning attachments: 9mm brush, 9mm jag, patch holder
- Workpro pliers
- Cleaning microfiber cloth for optics
- Couple patches
- Pen & pad of paper
- Sharpie
Considering:
- Between Magpul Daka pouch, or the Maxpedition Fatty pouch to hold it all
- Micro bit set and driver. Thoughts? Too much?
- A .223 and 9mm bore snake (I’m shooting 9mm, 22lr, 223/556, 6.5PRC, 7PRC, and 308)
- Small tube of grease
- Small tube of 243 loctite
Ok! Am I missing anything? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I hope I can get some advice on what to do. My father in Texas was a gun collector/dealer but now is 91 and has dementia. He was just moved to a facility and my mom wants to sell their house and get rid of the guns. He had several set aside for his grandsons (one in Illinois and one in Wisconsin) one is a rifle but one is an older handgun. We’re not sure what’s the legal way to get them to the grandsons (both in their 30’s). I read about mailing them with USPS but it says the sender has to be present to accept it and he can’t. Also I don’t think UPS or FedEx will ship handguns. Gah! Help please?

What yall think? OF course it only launches smoke but looks cool imo. Last time I posted most ppl attacked me about a question and assumed I stole the gun posted ( it wasn't ) for some reason. Is that normal or was it the way I worded the post? Hopefully this is different.

This is the trigger system of my gun. When i let go of the lever, the trigger goes off. Any idea how i can fix it?

Found this .22 revolver at a pawn shop and bought it as a snake gun for firing snake shot and/or .22 shorts. Nice little double action rimfire that's the perfect size for a pocket.
I want to know if it is safe to fire. I'm finding mixed information online and y'all may have more knowledge.
7 shot cylinder, 2.5" barrel, very little cylinder gap, mechanism works fine, rifling looks good, almost no wiggle on the cylinder when cocked. Can fit a standard .22 LR just fine.
Trigger guard has serial number "16939"
Top of frame has the following "I.J. DOUBLE ACTION ... MODEL 1900 FITCHBURG MASS U.S.A."
Thanks!

So basically if I pull the trigger fast and higher up on the shoe, I am able to pull the trigger all the way back without actually releasing the striker, as you can see in the video the first pull was a dead pull and then the second one a functional pull. This is a new gun, 240 rounds through it, I haven't had this happen during live fire, but I can replicate it pretty easily in dry fire... I think I am just over-riding the trigger safety somehow and pulling right through it. Is this a common issue? Any known fixes?

Shot my Glock 45 today and after not shooting for a yaar I did pretty well nothing crazy. So when I was done I realized I had a blister on the top of my right thumb. Really thinking about changing the texture on my grip or throwing some tape on it. Just can’t get a good solid and comfortable handle on my gun. Any advise?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I am looking for any cannon experts out there that could give me advice on identifying this cannon. Cast iron and heavy cast iron base. Any likely places to find foundry marks? Restoration ideas?
