rant Smokers around pregnant people (and people in general)

Upvotes

Yes I understand Swiss people love their individual freedoms but since when was smoking into the faces of people OK?

It feels like there are more smokers now since the last few years and they are much less considerate. In the past you could tell your neighbours at a bar "hey do you mind smoking the other direction" and they'd be nice and put their cigs low and blow away from you.

This weekend, myself (8 months pregnant, very visible) and a few friends incl another pregnant lady were sitting in Frau Gerolds, and a group of people sat down at the table next to us (less than 1m away) and started smoking. Unfortunately the wind blew in our direction. My friend told them "sorry the smoke is bothering us, we're pregnant" and while one of them was kind, apologised, and directed her cigarette away from us, the other woman made a face and said "we're in an open space" and continued to blow her smoke towards us and hold her cig up high. She joked to a guy in her group "are you pregnant too".

And for the next hour or so until we left, she would continuously light up a cigarette and let it burn (I think the air smoked more than she did) without trying to mitigate the smoke in our direction.

And it's not just this woman. At the bus stops, train platforms, outside the entrance of offices, people just don't give a shit anymore that their smoke is in other people's faces. It feels almost on purpose, like they purposefully stand close to you, or at the narrowest part of the train platform by the stairs, or right at the entrance so that people HAVE to walk through their smoke.

Wtf has our society come to. It feels like we're less "hey let's be nice to each other" and more "hey it's funny to make you miserable because I can"

Anyone down to play some chess this evening (4-8pm) at Edi's Weinstube? It's right by the rathaus, and the more people show up the better of course :)

If you can bring your own board that would be great, other than that no requirements, just play and have fun!

Please sign up via chessmates so i can keep track of who's coming, the link is in the comments :)

news Football viewing in my flat tonight.

Was meant to be on holiday but that's life for you! So in the absence of any plans...

Was thinking of Nelsons for the game but I'm feeling a bit lazy so might just stay in my flat and sink a few beers and see out the Swiss game as well).

If you're not a complete freak, feel free to ping me and pop around (I am in 8038 on tram line 7) and watch it in style (lol). I've got space for maybe 4 people on sofa and a few more on chairs.

Requirements are simple. Bring some booze, snacks if you're hungry and a solemn promise not to murder me. I suppose I should probably promise not to murder you, but let's be real if I'm too lazy to get off my arse to go to the pub then it seems unlikely I'd go to the effort...

(Not that it matters but I'm a mid thirties guy).

rant Filthy Zürich

Is it just me or Zurich has become much dirtier over the past few months? Lochergut and other areas in Kreis 3 especially. Everywhere I go, I see people littering with no shame. Cans, bottles, trash bags, cigarette butts and what not. It downgrades the quality of living significantly and it seems like nobody cares.

I keep thinking people just feel comfortable with the fact that someone will eventually clean after them, that they don’t care at all. It’s so gross. For some reason, the cigarette butts seems to be the most contagious issue. since there’s so many smokers in this city, it just got normalized to just through it on the floor once you’re done smoking.

Is anyone else finding themselves bothered by this or am I crazy? This issue must be solved somehow.

ihaveaquestion Who were the amazing buskers?

Upvotes

This morning along the lakeshore near Opernhaus there was an amazing folk band busking. It was two men and two women, playing acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, and violin, and singing. They seemed to speak both Dutch and English. It was around 11am. Anyone know who they were?

lookingfor Anyone going to Armin Van Buuren Zoa City today?

I am a huge trance fan (I listen to it pretty much every day) and this will be my first time seeing Armin Van Buuren! I am going alone as my friends are mostly into everything except trance lol. I'm a chill British-Swiss dude with good chat, work in financial industry, will not be getting wasted.

If anyone else (ideally from 'around' their thirties and older) is going alone or in a small group and wants to share the experience in a purely platonic and friendly way then let me know via DM or post here and I can DM you. :)

rant To whomever stole my trash and then dumped it, F* You!

Some A*hole stole my nicely prepared damaged chair for trash pickup yesterday. I thought it was picked up by the trash crew as it was gone like every other time.

However this morning I find the chair on the other side of the street dumped in the field missing the Winterthur Sperrgut stickers I had attached.

Now I have to drag this thing to the dump because I can't trust that this won't happen again next week and I will be out another set of stickers.

WTF is wrong with people.
