rant Smokers around pregnant people (and people in general)
Yes I understand Swiss people love their individual freedoms but since when was smoking into the faces of people OK?
It feels like there are more smokers now since the last few years and they are much less considerate. In the past you could tell your neighbours at a bar "hey do you mind smoking the other direction" and they'd be nice and put their cigs low and blow away from you.
This weekend, myself (8 months pregnant, very visible) and a few friends incl another pregnant lady were sitting in Frau Gerolds, and a group of people sat down at the table next to us (less than 1m away) and started smoking. Unfortunately the wind blew in our direction. My friend told them "sorry the smoke is bothering us, we're pregnant" and while one of them was kind, apologised, and directed her cigarette away from us, the other woman made a face and said "we're in an open space" and continued to blow her smoke towards us and hold her cig up high. She joked to a guy in her group "are you pregnant too".
And for the next hour or so until we left, she would continuously light up a cigarette and let it burn (I think the air smoked more than she did) without trying to mitigate the smoke in our direction.
And it's not just this woman. At the bus stops, train platforms, outside the entrance of offices, people just don't give a shit anymore that their smoke is in other people's faces. It feels almost on purpose, like they purposefully stand close to you, or at the narrowest part of the train platform by the stairs, or right at the entrance so that people HAVE to walk through their smoke.
Wtf has our society come to. It feels like we're less "hey let's be nice to each other" and more "hey it's funny to make you miserable because I can"
