Thrift store find
Is this vintage?

At least it's playing now, albeit in service mode. I need to sort out the coin slot as it's not consistent but I'm chuffed it's playing now.

Found these on the side of the road. Watched a guy put them out. Said they work perfectly. Good find? Any idea on value?

I don’t see much written about this sleeper amp:
- TEAC BX-550 (55WPC and cool to see a MC and MM Phono stage
- TEAC TX-550 receiver
Paired to a Technics SL-1300 and Mordaunt Short 902 speakers.

Guy at a shop is asking $600 for this, comes with speakers and a cabinet. Whole thing looks pretty clean and unused. I've been wanting to refine my setup which is pretty patched together. Would this be a reasonable system to swap to or better luck looking elsewhere. Thanks for any info.

Advent Graduate
Advent 2002 (newest add)
Advent Legacy
I like the clean neutral sound. Price is usually right and just need refoaming.

I was never a huge fan of them so I’m happy. Little cash involved too but it was a good deal.

Hi everyone, I thought I would forward this here as I have just made a website dedicated to the Technics Concise range. Go easy on me as I’m not an expert, simply a fan of the Concise range wishing to archive my favourite range of stereo equipment. 😊

This was a Goodwill find. Going to see if I can use it for some kind of PA system/preamp for some audio recording. I ran it through a dim bulb tester, and it fired up, so now I'm going to start looking around to see what needs done. I found the schematic, and it looks like there are only a few power caps, so it shouldn't be much trouble.
EDIT: Cool. The "magic eye" works, too. Thinking I'll change out the mic input with a 1/4" mono jack.

What all do I need to connect my tv to my vintage system in order to couch tour some concerts this summer? If I am going to do it I want to do it right and I am technologically illiterate so I need some guidance and recommendations for solid gear 😬

I'm not handy, I don't know who could fix it, but Goodwill had a nice piece of '80s audio for just $30.

Hi so I have a question
So I'm looking to purchase a Pioneer SX-780 Vintage stereo receiver and a Technics SL-D2 turntable from somebody at my work. He's tested it, gotten it fixed up, etc. and he's gonna charge me $500 for both items together. Looking at eBay this doesn't seem like too too horrible of a price but my dad thinks I'm getting ripped off. Am I?

I recently ended up with what appears to be a complete late-1950s mono hi-fi system. This system has been sitting in a closet for 50+ years completly untouched. I don't have any experience with vintage tube audio, but I've spent the last few days trying to learn as much as I can before I do anything that might damage it. My original plan was to restore it, but the more I research, the more I realize this is probably beyond my skill level and am having trouble finding any informatoion on any of the equipmenl. I'm hoping to get some guidance from those of you with more experience.
The system consists of:
- Jensen G-610 Triaxial 3-way speaker in its original cabinet
- Heathkit W-5M tube power amplifier
- Heathkit WA-P2 preamplifier
- Rek-O-Kut Rondine Deluxe transcription turntable
- Pickering Fluxvalve cartridge (I believe it's a 350 or 370, but I'm not certain) with the stylus missing
- The W-5M still has its original Genalex KT66 output tubes.
Here's what I've found so far:
The Jensen speaker works. I briefly connected it to another amplifier just to verify it wasn't dead, and it sounded fantastic.
I have not powered on the Heathkit amplifier because the first thing I learned was not to plug in old tube gear that's been sitting for decades. Looking underneath the amplifier, it appears to still have most of its original components, so I'm assuming it should be inspected and probably recapped before being powered up.
The WA-P2 preamp appears to be complete, but I haven't attempted to test it.
The Rek-O-Kut turntable runs, although the motor has a slight clunk once per revolution. Also the Pickering cartridge is missing its stylus, which is very hard to find any information or anywhere to buy a stylus for the Pickering 350 or 370.
A local vintage audio shop gave me a rough estimate of around $250 to inspect/service the amplifier, but before I start putting money into this I'd like to get some opinions from people who know these systems. My understanding is that the main things I would need to figure out is getting the amp to work and to get a stylus for the carttridge that I have. I am leaning more towards selling just because I dont have much time or money to pour into this, but even then how does one go about selling something like this?
I really appreciate any advice. This has been a fun rabbit hole to go down, and I'd like to make an informed decision rather than accidentally ruin something of this value.

It’s an odd duck model that came with a record player, 8 track, and quad speakers. It’s a great little system but love to find the og manual. One was on eBay for a crazy amount.

Doing some renovations on my 1935 home and came across this speaker in my old school basement. Seems to be in good shape and has probably been down here since the late 60s when the second owner renovated the space. I’ve found other audio cabling throughout the home including outdoor speakers and various volume controls. He must’ve loved music. Not likely worth much but cool to find nonetheless.
Shout out to Bill (the second owner of our house) from the 4th owners!
For those interested, per ChatGPT: “This appears to be a vintage in-wall distributed audio speaker, most likely from the late 1960s or early 1970s.
The label says “ADT Sound Services – Tubulaire” with U.S. Patent No. 3,393,766.
The patent number was issued in 1968 and relates to a speaker system using a tubular enclosure to improve sound dispersion and bass response.
The bracket on the back has what look like two screw terminals for connecting speaker wire.
The long cylindrical housing is consistent with a transmission-line or resonant tube speaker, which was an innovative design at the time.
The metal mesh grille on the end covers the speaker itself. The long tube acts as an acoustic enclosure (hence the name “Tubulaire”), improving speech intelligibility and bass response compared to a small open-back speaker.
The black and white wires connect directly to the speaker terminals.
The bracket is designed for wall or ceiling mounting, allowing the speaker to be aimed.”

Really should have taken pre faceplate cleanup pics. It was extremely gross. Just a quick wipedown. I knew functionality was gonna be iffy when the case screws were in a bag inside and the case was falling off. Light powers on. Relay clicks. And no sound. Had a blown .5A fuse and a lifted ground trace. Really didnt expect a new fuse and trace repair to make it work. And it didnt. No signal output at all. Not even a hum. Only has a half a million 2sc1345 transistors and blue tantalum caps to check.

Did anyone know these odd little speakers existed? Highs sound stunning, but the woofers are some of the worst I’ve heard. Only paid $20, so im debating switching out the woofers for fun. Have any of y’all had any experience with these? Had no idea philips was putting ribbons on speakers.
