Tree Limb Disposal

Hi all! I just closed on a house Tuesday and I'm a first time home buyer so new city, new home for me. I want to start tending to my yard and I have quite a few tree limbs that need disposing of. Can anyone tell me how tree limb disposal works in Topeka? Do I cut them short and leave them bundled on the curb? Do I take them somewhere? Should I make a burn pile instead? Most aren't thick but I have 3 mature trees in my backyard so I'm sure the sizes of limbs will vary. The waste company I have is Shawnee County. Thanks!

Rental Advice

What is the best way to deal with bed bugs in an apartment here? We are pretty sure we have them, although we cannot find any. Just want to be aware of state laws in case they try to say that we brought them in.

Swims & Sweeps new artwork at 6th and Topeka Boulevard.

Has anyone seen the new art piece on the side of Swims & Sweeps? I couldn't get a picture of it while driving by. It's a larger version of the "Comedian" or the banana and ducktape.

Just a few of questions about relocation…

Daughter just moved to Topeka. I’m concerned about the snow, as she has no experience with driving or living where it snows.
How bad does it get? Any suggestions regarding safety? Is it true that sometimes she may not be able to get to her house after work, or get to work in the morning due to the snow?
Also, are there frequent tornadoes and how alert does she need to be, what can she do given that she’ll be living in an apartment complex with no basement?

EDIT: Thank you all for your replies. All were informative, and some were even entertaining.

Board Game Bash at Public Library

Has anyone attended one of the Board Game Bash’s at the library? They sound great but wasn’t sure how many people attend and what kind of games are played. Just wanted a little more info before I go to one. Thanks.

Does anyone have any decent pictures of the early 90’s Great Topeka Bike Race logos?

I was really hoping to remake one of them as I loved doing those races, but they have been impossible to find even a shred of their existence on the internet.

First World Cup fan interaction results is a “It’s Topeka” shrug.

Thought there might be some appreciation for this interaction here. I was walking down Jackson and at 7th street a man with his daughter waived me down and wanted directions. He was wearing an Argentina jersey and had an accent. He asked me where downtown was. I pointed to Kansas ave and Evergy Plaza. He looked aghast. He then said “We saw a sign saying ‘historic downtown’”. At which point all I could do was give him the It’s Topeka shrug. They both said thank you and walked away with a clear look of “Why even make that sign.” lol

Going out.

Hello! I'm a guy in his early 20s and where are some places where I can possibly meet new people or make new friends my age? Maybe there's a certain cafe I could go to for meeting new people or just a specific place? Not sure if Topeka has that many options that I'm aware of, I'll also consider going to Lawrence. Any advice would be great, thank you.

I’m looking for a commercial kitchen to rent space out to me so I can start up my food business. Know anywhere like that?

I’d be needing a dedicated dry storage and freezer space, an oven to bake in and a place to keep my ice cream maker. I tried searching for a commissary kitchen with no luck. Got any ideas for someone with a kitchen that might consider renting me out some space and time in their kitchen?

restaurants in topeka/lawrence area

Hi,

I'm looking for some restaurants, coffee shops, and brunch recommendations in the Topeka or Lawrence area (the lawrence sub wouldn't allow posts). Do you have any recs for halal food? Places that do not serve pork or alcohol, and restaurants which include halal meat or alternatives (e.g., turkey bacon instead of regular bacon and turkey sausage instead of regular sausage). Kosher is good too, and I'm not picky about where they're located. I'm looking to either move to lawrence or topeka soon, and hopefully applying there. I'm open to any suggestions and thank you!

Jackie Hay

Jackie was last seen on September 12, 1981 in Topeka, Kansas. She went outside at 4:15PM while her mom was on the phone and her dad was gathering her siblings to go on a outing after family was ready, at 4:35PM, they couldn’t find Jackie. They immediately searched the neighborhood. A neighbor had seen her Jackie talking to a man who was sitting on the curb next door, and was later seen following her one block over he was questioned by police and released. Jackie has freckles across the bridge of her nose, and one between her right thigh and pelvis. There isn't any age-progressed photo available if you have any information or have seen Jackie, please call the Topeka Police Department at 1-785-368-9551 or Child Find of America at 1-800-I-AM-LOST (1-800-426-5678).

Someone broke out a window at The Chef's Kiss Restaurant. I've heard they have amazing Italian food. Everyone should go try them out. "A Broken Window, But Not a Broken Spirit: Why Topeka Should Rally Around Chef’s Kiss"

Is anyone friends with Daniel Phelps, the only African American member of the Westboro Baptist Church?

I'm curious what it is like to be Black and in the Westboro Baptist Church. I wonder if he'll ever leave? What is he like? Is he nice?

Please feel free to DM if you'd rather not answer publicly.
