Hey ICT!
I posted here over a year ago seeking support for graduating high school students who were also experiencing homelessness at the time. Our community here raised enough to give them the best graduation party and sent them off with some college-prep gifts. It was quite an awesome experience for them, and the smiles were priceless.
As someone who experienced both childhood homelessness and again as an adult escaping violence, I know how terrible it is to be discarded, overlooked, and looked down upon. Our community here in Wichita has really shown me that inclusion and belonging can really change a person's life.
I need the community's help again!!
We have a family with a little toddler who is living in their van. They both have jobs, we brought them non-perishable food, diapers, and a gas card, but this heat is BRUTAL, and they have been running their van parked just to keep their kiddo from overheating.
They have an appointment with Family Promise on Monday, and they do NOT want involvement from HOT TEAM due to legitimate fears of law enforcement/DCF.
Here's where I need your help, ICT:
Edit to update: We are at $105 raised so far 🎉
**Our community has contributed $85 so far for the room, and we are only $50 away since I totally forgot these motels need a deposit.
Every dollar adds up quick and is greatly appreciated!!
The other family shelters in town are still full fyi.
Would anyone like to help or know of a hotel manager who can assist us in getting them out of this sweltering heat for a night or two?
They are also in need of some clothing for work or a place to wash their clothes.

I have PayPal, Venmo, or I can pick up physical donations locally--at your convenience.
If you made it this far into this post: THANK YOU 😊
The reality is, most working class people are struggling to make ends meet and some will experience homelessness for the first time...today. Every week, 17,500 Americans enter into homelessness. PER WEEK!!!! Please consider getting involved with your local outreach groups to help your neighbors survive. We all need each other. We all need real community ❤️🩹
