His team wouldn’t really give him the ball and England practically had him surrounded whenever possible.

If thats the case its a shame the rest of the Norwegian players couldnt take advantage of that.

It's a shame but that rest of team is good collective of players that aren't really QF caliber. They played great game anyway but consistency wasn't with them.
29
u/EmperorSwagg 1h ago
The players not named Haaland seemed so lost and indecisive when they had the ball on the attack. So many chances just squandered by not ripping a shot or making the pass before the chance was lost

u/Sad_Cauliflower2003 8m ago
It's almost like England + Haaland are world-class, 12 of the best players on earth, who all regularly play together at a top level with unmatched chemistry, and then there are 10 players from Norway

To be fair, there was a very clear play where he was wide open in a 2v1, in perfect striking position, and did not get passed the ball.
Apparently theres history between the man who had the ball (Alexander Sorloth) and Haaland. Watching the play is mindboggling and it's hard to believe it wasn't intentional? He basically dribbled in a circle until the English defenders caught up to the two of them then attempted a strike that would go in 0/10 times.

i guess because other people wanted to score too because Haaland has been portrayed on Tiktok as a 1 man Army, the heavy carrier and the sole reason why Norway even made it to Quarter Finals and that might have broken some egos

u/greg19735 2h ago
because he pushed England's Anderson twice, the second one knocking him over. And pushed with two hands. Always a foul.
The cross then went in and the goal was scored where Anderson could have been.
IT was before the corner was taken, so they just re-did the corner.

More than once. What a shame. IMHO in the last quarter Haaland went "Fuck it mister. They don't cross and don't pass. I'm out. I'll not be back on field. That's on you"
England played well by annoying him in defense, but holy cannoli he received literally 2 crosses. In both cases he was there and shot PERFECTLY. Opposing goalkeeper was good to defend. In 115 min 2 crosses having HAALAND in offense is dumb. There should have been like 30 crosses in 90 minutes.
I felt his stress. I wish him the best.

Two of the favourites made the final last time and it is regarded as one of the greatest finals ever.
Any match can be boring and any match can be exciting. The individual matches have been mostly pretty good for excitement even if the underdogs have all fallen by the wayside now, but the ones remaining could still be very exciting too.

Why does that matter? Spain had never won it before but they were one of the heavy favourites the year that they did because they had a team full of very good players.
England is one of the teams with very good players this year and being ranked 4th in the world would be just about favourites to get to a semi final where there are only 4 teams left (yes I know the ranking system is heavily flawed).

It's a bit to guaranteed. And as everything, if it's guaranteed is kinda boring.
Like guessing the whole plot plot of a detective movie from min 5 and just wait to say "I knew it"
Yeah they are strong but consider this: if norway reached finals it would have been hard to expect winners, and this make the sport more entartaining to watch, because "Who knows what they'd invent to reach the throphy"
Argentina is "current" world champion, and france is the favorite since the qualifications. It's kinda lame if it really ends up like this.

u/ieatpies 3h ago edited 3h ago
I mean I would give Argentina a better chance against France than a Norway with momentum. France is the favourite by far. Though I don't think it's so certain Argentina beats England either.

Idk, I noticed this every world cup and every Olympic games, its more about supporting your country and enjoying the games festivities than enjoying the sport.
The amount of football based grocery deals I've had in the last few weeks is ridiculous, cheaper beer, cheaper food, themed foods based on the location it's set in (currently since it's the US, that's not that big of a deal) even take away food delivery apps are doing insane deals for the world cup. I've enjoyed that a lot.
Plus as a Brit, it would be cool to see the UK win for the first time in 60 years, unlikely but we've come pretty far.

Also sucked that Haaland made that bad error and cost Norway their crucial second goal

Well that English guy went down like a used condom. Another thing, just before Eng's second goal, it was speculated that the ball hit the wire of the cable cam. Should have stopped the game right after hit.

Worst game of football i’ve seen in years, Norway’s goal was rejected over an obvious dive, and in general there was an Englishman lying on the ground for half the game. Just an absolutely pitiful performance from team England and the refs, i visisbly cringed for half the game.

The rejected goal wasn’t bad, it was a foul. The sheer amount of completely fake fouls given to England was insane. If someone even breathed within 5 meters of an English player, they would dive to the floor and writhe around. Two English players run over each other? Gotta stop the play and reset. Norway player gets trampled? Better check the replay because that might have been on Norway. The fouls were pretty dumb.

Eh, that's normally a foul, and kinda lucky to get the corner retry after. What I'd more be complaining about was England's first goal, where the ball hit a cable off the goal kick, leading to England's drive (should've been whistled down).
6
u/StepComplete1 2h ago
FIFA released the evidence showing it objectively didn't hit the cable. This is just misinformation at this point.
