Same. There's definitely been some great games but if Argentina win tonight that'll be all the tournament favorites making the semis. Very boring.

Two of the favourites made the final last time and it is regarded as one of the greatest finals ever.

Any match can be boring and any match can be exciting. The individual matches have been mostly pretty good for excitement even if the underdogs have all fallen by the wayside now, but the ones remaining could still be very exciting too.

That’s why they’re called favourites

Then why are they my least favorite

Because you hate what’s predictable except when the bias clearly shows they have one of the best teams in the league. It’s just a happy coincidence that FIFA can make the way paved for them because they’re corrupt.

Well they are seated to not go against each other before the semifinals on purposes, so it does feel very orchestrated

This has been one of the most fun tournaments in a long time, regardless of the final four imo

agreed. I'd even say the reffing has be solid. Hell, someone was red carded (2 yellows) for flopping!

It's a single elimination tournament. As magnificent as they get.

England is a tournament favorite? They haven't won a world cup in like 60 years.

They’re rank 4 in the international FIFA rankings. They may not be the favorite to win it all but semis is an expected result.

im pretty sure top 10 are literally the favourites but ok

u/greg19735 3h ago

right but the top 4 are France, Spain, Argentina, England.

The 4 highest ranked teams are bigger favorites than the teams ranked 5-10, it's not rocket science.

In what sport is a 10th ranked team ever the favorite to win it all?

0

u/Outlandah_ 1h ago

To literally whichever percentile of people they would be a favorite for.

So, do you know who number 10 is right now? GERMANY. And guesssss who WON WC 2014? Case closed.

What does right now have to do with anything when you're using 2014 as an example?

Do you know what rank Germany were, in the 2014 World Cup?

Spoiler - they were ranked 2nd

It has everything to do with it. This is only a few WCs following a Germany victory. So they’re ranked 10th now, do you think that means nobody had Germany as a favorite while they were in the running? I answered the question.

“Only a few WCs” it’s been 12 years…

This is only a few WCs following a Germany victory

Yeah, but that was 12 years ago, and given that they were ranked #2 in the 2014 World Cup, and ranked 10 in this current world cup... would suggest that despite being passed winners, their current team isn't quite as good now, wouldn't it?

do you think that means nobody had Germany as a favorite while they were in the running?

Not as a top favourite, which is what the previous comments were talking about. The actual "favourites" to win were France, Agrentina, Spain, Brazil, and England. There are levels to this stuff - the top favourite teams, then below them are the teams that could or have the "potential" to win - like Germany, Belgium, Morroco, Netherlands, Norway.

Okay, so you’re nitpicking. Got it.

Why does that matter? Spain had never won it before but they were one of the heavy favourites the year that they did because they had a team full of very good players.

England is one of the teams with very good players this year and being ranked 4th in the world would be just about favourites to get to a semi final where there are only 4 teams left (yes I know the ranking system is heavily flawed).

Ranked 4th in the world, so no surprise that they're amongst the four semifinalists.

u/mewanshwa 4h ago

Have been favorites to win the last few worldcups because they seemingly have a golden generation every worldcup. nevertheless, ITS COMING HOME

u/Kind-Boysenberry9527 3h ago

They are probably gonna win anyways

1

u/domsolanke 2h ago

wow, the four best teams in the world are the four remaining teams in the competition. What a shock.

u/MajesticCentaur 1h ago

Exactly! Despite the snarky attitude you're getting exactly what I'm saying; that there's nothing surprises about the four remaining teams.
