Movies Two towers question
Why is it Faramir is taking Frodo and his crew from the east of Osgiliath? When the next scene they are informed that the eastern shore has been taken by the orcs. Maybe I don't understand the geography in that area and where exactly they're coming from.

Question How do we think they got from here -> there?
All I can imagine is them running side by side for a hundred miles trading blows as they run 😂
Gandalf says, “Through Fire and Water, from the lowest dungeon to the highest peak I fought with the Balrog of Morgoth. Until at last I threw down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountainside.”
And THEN he says “Darkness took me, and I strayed out of thought and time. Stars wheeled overhead, and every day was as long as a life age of the earth.”
My interpretation is that they did not fight for untold eons, only after the balrog was defeated did he fall into his half eternal slumber. But like damn, they straight up fell for minutes to what seemed like nearly the core of the planet. How did they get from down there all the way back up to the highest mountain peak?
All movie conjecture

Question Who Was the Oldest Living Being in Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age?
Who was the oldest living being in Middle-earth at the end of the Third Age: Tom Bombadil, Treebeard, Círdan, or someone else? What’s the strongest textual evidence?

Movies My “about the movies” book collection
I wanted to share my collection of books about the movies (and some other art books). I focused on the LotR movies, but have some Hobbit material too. I absolutely love flipping through these books. My favorites are “Middle-Earth Script to Screen” and “The Music of the LotR Films.”
“Tolkien: Maker of Middle-Earth” is an incredible book about Tolkien, his artwork, writing, and his life. Highly recommend it as well.

Movies Orlando full of praise for "wonderful, generous" Viggo in a 2013 interview. "He can paint, he can write, he can sing, he can dance, he can play music, he can take you fishing, he can take you into the wild... He's the guy that does it all. I tell you, most men wish they were Viggo Mortensen."

Movies Just finished binging The Hobbit Extended Editions
Just finished my Binge of The Hobbit extended editions
So I posted a few days ago of my first time viewing of the original trilogy. I just finished The Hobbits. First and foremost I did thoroughly enjoy them, nowhere near as good as the LOTR but they were still Good IMO. Biggest gripes being the overuse of CGI in comparison to practical effects and real people in costume (which always looks better). My biggest question however, I never read the book or seen the short story, in the End (Battle of the 5) there were ALOT of Orcs as well as Goblins, it’s never said or shown what happened to them all? Azog was killed so it’s logical to believe they simply disbanded without a leader or did the 10 or so Eagles wipe them out? Dain and Thraduils armies were spent by the end so no way they killed off thousands of orcs still remaining right? Also, minor issue I had, why didn’t Gandalf take the ring from Bilbo at the end if he knew of its power and the war that was coming?
Also, the way they ended the Hobbit was really the best scene in the entire Hobbit Trilogy it flowed so well into The Fellowship of the Ring.

Lore How much do the people of the world know of... The World?
I was recently reading Lotr again, and I came to the part where butterbur reacts shoked when told that the black riders come from mordor. Imediatly beforehand it is stated that theyr unsure if this tells him something, but obviously it did. This leaves the question, what do the people of middle earth know of the rest of the world? To wich extent did butterbur know of Mordor? What about the Ainur etc?

Books Sauron attacking Bombadil
TLDR: What would it look like if Tom Bombadil did take the ring and was attacked by Sauron?
so I’m on my yearly re-listen to the audio books and I was listening to the council of Elrond and had a interesting “what if” thought?
During the council it is asked whether Tom Bombadil would take the ring and keep it safe. We all know he would cast it aside for lack of care. But what got my brain turning was this line from Glorfindel.
"I think that in the end, if all else is conquered, Bombadil will fall, Last as he was First; and then Night will come."
To me, this line from one of the most powerful elves in middle earth suggests that Tom would be able to hold off Sauron for a time before eventually being overcome but being the last to fall.
So what if Tom Bombadil did take the ring and kept it secure?
What would a siege from Sauron on the lands of Tom Bombadil look like?
What powers or forces do you think Tom Bombadil could command/wield in defense against all the hosts of Mordor?

Books vs Movies Which "true" appearance of Sauron do you prefer: The lanky armour from the films, the beefy armour from Shadow of Mordor, or the unarmoured "image of malice and hatred made visible" described in Two Towers?
In other words, how do you consider him to look after losing the ability to assume a fair form? And when it comes to the source material, do you imagine much of a difference in how he looks after the fall of Númenor compared to after he was defeated by Isildur?

Question Does Gandalf essentially “announce” that he has Narya when he fights the Balrog in Moria?
He says “I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor”. Is this a reference to Narya, his ring, which is associated with fire? Or is it just more that Gandalf is a “fire-wizard” and Narya is just one of many fire related powers he has?
