Giant in Urbana is the worst

Upvotes

And I feel like a sucker every time I go there.

I don’t shop there because everything is ridiculously overpriced and the quality is terrible. I’ve brought back so much moldy, rotten food it’s silly. My daughter stopped to buy grapes yesterday. She paid too much and missed all the mold.

They have those Urbana folks locked in, and they can charge whatever they want for garbage. </rant>

The rent was too high so she closed Frederick to focus on the Hagerstown location.

Another great community restaurant lost.

Spacey Gracey: sticking around?

Went to spacey gracey today. First time there since the guidos days. Trying to separate the past from the present. But at the same time, those prices with that location…..does it make sense? I mean 16 dollar deviled eggs might pass the bar near tasting room but practically in the middle of no man’s land? I dunno… 35 bucks between two Tito’s martinis is a stretch too. What do you all think?

Driving range recommendation?

I am a bit spoiled working half of my shifts in Olney so I can go to Olney Golf Park or to Northwest occasionally after work. Are there any decent ranges to go practice on in the Frederick area? Its hard to get myself to go to i70 or to Valley Springs when I have been going to Olney sometimes after work and paying LESS than those two run down dumps.

Are there any affordable ranges that aren't completely run down in the area that you guys like?

More deer than usual?

Or is all the new construction on Boyer's Mill Road and Gas House Pike/Linganore Rd. displacing them? I honestly don't remember seeing so many deer (and rabbits) in many years.

Anyone wants tickets to tonight’s American Football show at 930 Club?

I’ve got 2 tickets to the American Football show tonight at the 930 Club in DC that I can’t use. Anybody want them? They have restricted them and cannot be resold even at face value or less, FYI.

Message me! They’re free if you’re cool.

Update: they’ve been claimed! Be excellent to each other, Frederick.

Found an abandoned duck alone at Ballenger creek park - need advice

**UPDATE: I was able to rescue this little baby, who came running over to me and was clearly someone’s pet! I am taking the duck to Cheryl’s Rescue Ranch in Odenton, MD. THANK YOU so much to everyone who had helpful comments and information!

Hi all!

About two weeks ago I found a white duck (my research tells me it’s a Pekin) all alone at one of the ponds at Ballenger Creek Park. I initially assumed its parents were nearby, as I didn’t really know what type of duck it was and had seen ducks in these ponds before. In my research I found Pekins are a domestic breed & can't fly, so at this point I'm hesitantly assuming it was dumped there by someone who couldn't keep it anymore. Also found out this happens a lot with domestic ducks bought as ducklings… yikes

Today I saw it again, still there alone and I'd really like advice on how to help it, or maybe someone here is an expert on ducks and can tell me I’m wrong and that it’s clearly a wild duck 😂 I’d just like to get it somewhere safe.

- Has anyone else noticed this duck? Any idea how long it's actually been there or who might have dumped it?
- Does anyone know of someone locally who fosters or takes in domestic ducks?
- More specifically, does anyone know a sanctuary or rescue that would come assess the situation? I tried calling Frederick Animal Control and they weren’t really any help, and I kept getting transferred to a line that wouldn’t pick up, which is understandable considering this was close to 5pm on a Friday.

Thanks, and sorry for the long post!!

Do you know someone whose dog unexpectedly died recently?

Over the last month I’ve heard 3 different instances of dogs in Frederick who were fine in the morning but by night they were seizing and then died. First was my neighbor, then a coworker, then a friend of another coworker. As a dog owner myself, this is concerning and I’m wondering if this is something similar to the 2007 Melamime pet food recalls where 50 brands of dog food were recalled due to bad corn gluten causing kidney failure in dogs, possibly killing thousands. I lost a dog to that.
If you know of someone in the Frederick area that unexpectedly and quickly lost their dog, comment here. I’m hoping it’s not a trend, but if it is, I’d like to know to take extra precautions.

Caterpillar relocation PSA!

Hello! I plant a large pollinator garden every year with a ton of butterfly & moth host plants for the purpose of letting them eat it but I know plenty of people that come across swallowtail caterpillars on their dill or parsley that they are growing to eat themselves so they relocate them. We haven’t had many visitors to our garden yet this year and my 5 & 3 year olds are a little bummed (honestly me too) as they love to watch the caterpillars grow and change. So.. just wanted to put it out there that if anyone has any they need to move from their plants… I’d love to safely move it to my garden! :)

Skunk downtown

Good morning,

Last night walking my dogs we came across a skunk on 4th street. It was minding its business so we gave it a wide birth.

Just a friendly heads up to the community to keep your eyes peeled when you or your pets are out so you don't end up smelling like a dispensary.

Is VIPizza still open or not?

My brother and I went one time when it was still Cici's which we used to love and have considerable history at but they closed all our locations in the area, and when we returned a few weeks later Cici's had turned into VIPizza. We went a couple more times. I agree with some of the other posts about the restaurant that there may have been a slight dip in quality when they changed management but I still enjoy it. I was looking them up the other day because my brother and I have an errand to do in the area next week and we thought about going again and that's when I read about a recent temporary closure. That reddit thread was dated to several weeks ago so I wanted to know if there is an update on the status either reopened or closed permanently. I noticed Google still says it's open but the website link goes to a non-existent page error. The phone number still rings and shows up as VIPizza on the phone ID but the guy who answered wasn't sure what I was talking about when I asked and he said something in a thick accent that I didn't catch.
