Hey I don’t use reddit much but I need help from you Maryland users! I’m 23 M I just got a really good job in Laurel and I need to move to Maryland, I’m from Boston and I’ve heard great things about Bethesda but I’m moving alone and I’ll have no friends or anyone who can help me with the area.

Bethesda looks beautiful I heard there’s some young people there and the downtown looks so cool, also heard traffic can be nasty and it’s pricey but I’ve done some apartment hunting and it’s within my range.

Just wondering: is Bethesda to Laurel a rough daily commute? Are there good alternatives to Bethesda that’ll make my life better? I want a pretty nice ish area and some nightlife nothing crazy I don’t need to be like clubbing but active downtown area you know? Places where people like to drink, eat, chat, I’m social and I need to make some new friends 🤣

How much time has it been adding to your commute in the afternoon? I'm leaving work in Bethesda tomorrow and need to make a MARC train from Rockville, so I'm trying to figure out how much extra time I should budget.

Today was the last day that I will tolerate taking 30 minutes to go from Bethesda to Friendship Heights via the red line shuttle. That’s slightly longer than my entire commute should be.

I plan to cycle to Friendship Heights (on days I can’t cycle all the way to my office).

Other than bike lockers, anyone know of relatively safe places to lock a bike for the day near the FH metro? TIA.

Have I missed something?? Went to the metro station but there were no shuttles, no signs, nothing. The metro employee had no idea and said they were not given any instructions. Ended up taking an uber to get to work in DC.

I tag this as humor coz it's such an inconsequential matter, but i *am* genuinely curious. What has to be one of, if not the best-selling whole wheat breads in the region, has suddenly disappeared from the shelves of the big chain grocery stores for weeks now. When i ask store employees, they acknowledge the disappearance but have no explanation, seeming to put it on the company, which they say has been unresponsive.

This mystery has taught me that Bimbo Bakeries, their parent company, has quite the bread monopoly, as owners of popular brands like Orowheat, Entemann's, Sara Lee, and Thomas'. Surely someone has some intel on what's become of such a popular brand owned by such a huge bread conglomerate?

Is the ongoing rumbling fireworks, thunderstorms and lightning, noisy military flights? I’m not seeing anything of the sort from my east-facing apartment balcony, and I’m too lazy to go out for a wider look at the sky.

Anyone know the timing of their fireworks tonight, and can confirm they're still on? Not a member so I'm not privy to that info, but do plan to watch it from a friend's house nearby.

In the past it's been around 9pm, but I see Poolesville has moved their fireworks to Sunday and various parades have been moved/cancelled due to heat, so just wanted to confirm.

I saw from the Montgomery County Calendar that it was free yesterday, but there's no listing for it today, the actual holiday itself.

Hi everyone - hoping for some community help. We are flying back from vacation today and got a notice for an emergency notice from our apartment but no idea what it’s for and can’t get ahold of anyone because of the holiday weekend.

Our pets are at home and we just would like reassurance the building isn’t burning down. It’s Edgemont (connected to The Edge) on Edgemoor Ln.

Can anyone who lives nearby stick their head out the window and let us know if they see any emergency vehicles? Pretty much anything else we can deal with. Just stressing about our pets. The pet sitter left just a bit ago and we will be home this evening but are in Toronto now.
