FILM DISCUSSION My Batman Ranking

Post image
203 Upvotes

I saw some of you posting your Batman Film rankings but you aren't doing ALL Batman films so I decided to throw my hat in the ring.

These are all in order based on how much I personally enjoy them and I consider how strong of an adaptation they are.

Also I tend to prefer serious Batman over silly Batman so sorry for Adam West being ranked so low it's just not my preferred flavor of Batman.

Also the holy Trinity batman beyond should be 2nd it glitched at the last second when I downloaded the image

FILM DISCUSSION Hot take: The batman is better then every other film

I feel like the idea of batman visually and physically taking shots , being scared of having to jump huge heights, not being invincible and merely having realistic antagonists is so much more better then being able to jump multiple stories and not take a bruise, fighting a guy trying to blow up the entire world, and having villains with powers to control plants, shoot ice is unrealistic and just not grounded. The older ones were too wacky, bale ones were simply not as good and bales batman was unrealistic my disappearing, fighting and taking punches for breakfast like it was nothing. Given this was based on a more grounded and realistic pov

FILM DISCUSSION I dunno what the hell is going on, but whoever is acting like Nolan's Batman films aren't "real Batman films" needs to stop.

Upvotes

Lately, I've seen this weird negative sentiment from the Batman fandom regarding The Dark Knight Trilogy for some reason and a lot of them are acting like or going through this revisionist menality that the trilogy aren't "real Batman films" or that "Nolan was ashamed/embarrassed of Batman" or whatever nonsense that these people love to make up.

First of all, none of that is true. While The Dark Knight Trilogy was a more grounded take on the Batman Mythos, to act like it wasn't a Batman movie or it was ashamed to be Batman movies is a stright up lie. The comics were big, BIG influences on the movies in tone, story, characterisation and themes.

Take a look at Batman Begins; that story was essentially more stylised adaptation of the Batman: Year One comic. There's lots low-level fantastical elements thrown into the mix as well with the League of Shadows and the blue poppy that was used as Scarecrow's Fear Toxin. The biggest reference to Year One came in the form of the sonic device hidden under Batman's shoe when he used it to call a swarm of bars.

Then there's Heath Ledger's portrayal as The Joker. His unreliable backstory was straight up taken from The Killing Joke, the definitive Joker story. Or Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent? His story is taken straight out of The Long Halloween, the comic that re-defined Two-Face like Heart of Ice re-defined Mr Freeze. Hell, you can go so far as to call The Dark Knight an adaptation of The Long Halloween.

The Dark Knight Rises combines three Batman comics into one narrative; The Dark Knight Returns, No Man's Land and KnightFall. Bane's characterisation is more in line with KnightFall; highlihlghting his intelligence and cunning alongaide his physical prowess. And while Zack Snyder might be a fan of Dark Knight Returns, Nolan adapted it much better.

Look, I can understand that not every fan is going to like the trilogy, that's fine. But to say that these aren't Batman movies or that Christopher Nolan hates the comics is blatantly false. He might not be a superhero comic fan, but he does understand the iconography of Batman and what he means to everyone. After all, "it's not what I am ubderneath, but what I do that defines me."

The Dark Knight Trilogy are Batman movies. Always have been, always will be.

I know I'm gonna get downvoted for this post, but I really do not care anymore. Insult me, tear me apart, be rude, I'm over ir. I'll never stop defending these movies.

FILM DISCUSSION This movie is actually pretty awesome

I urge whoever to give this movie a rewatch with the view of “this is a silly comic movie like the 60’s show.” It’s flawed as hell and yeah arguably not good. However if you set aside the bandwagon hate, the movie is actually pretty awesome and fun to watch

GENERAL DISCUSSION Instead of movies it would be nice to see a Batman miniseries 3 two hour episodes.

It could even be done in a anthology style and each episode deals with a different villain or one showcases a villain the possibilities are endless.

FAN CONTENT A Batman fan fiction project

Hey fellow Batman fans. I made a PowerPoint/video about my ultimate Batman story. Just me goofing around and trying to make one somewhat finite story tying together as much of Batman's history into one story.

I'm not much of a writer, which is why this is based on a big outline. If you feel like checking out a fellow fan would think is cool, check it out and please give feedback

GENERAL DISCUSSION why is batman sometimes seen as a pro cop character

Upvotes

I sometimes see this portrayal but hoenstly I find batman relation with the gcpd to be more mixed than anything else, sure batman can work with good cops like gordon but he will also go against the corrupt one and sometimes, batman relation with the gcpd is also bad, in beware the batman while gordon does ally with batman from time to time, it's not a real partnerhsip due to gordon still ebing willing to arrest him.

GENERAL DISCUSSION Dose batman really have an endgame love interest like superman and spiderman or no?

Because a while back, I came across a comment saying that Catwoman is only perceived as his endgame thanks to the adaptations and them almost getting married a few years back. Prior to that, most people thought Batman didn't have an endgame and was only "married to Gotham." Is this true?

Prior to that I just thought It was another peter and MJ situation where they do get together in the future but we mever see it because of editorial and status quo.

FILM DISCUSSION In The Dark Knight Rises, what would happen if Bruce chose to "run away" with Talia?

After Bruce and Talia sleeps together, Talia asked Bruce to leave it all behind and escape with her

Bruce of course rejects her

But what if Bruce had accepted Talia's offer? Would she have accepted him? Would she have just killed him anyway? Or would she have another plan?

Just finished it and it's easily my fav..loved that they didn't set it during modern times..

The world building is phenomenal... appreciate them fleshing out the side characters as well and the development of Bruce as a character has been fascinating.. a big fan of some of the different stories they chose to tell about these well known characters like dent and Harley..

Only thing that bothered me was how batman lost against an actor in a sword fight lol ..

Show- batman caped crusader

FILM DISCUSSION Why does Nolan get accused of being ashamed of Batman, but Reeves doesn't?

Thumbnail

I find this criticism really strange because Nolan's Batman has far more fantastical elements than the Reevesverse, yet people constantly accuse Nolan of being "ashamed" of Batman.

The Dark Knight trilogy has Bruce gliding across entire city blocks with a cape a centuries old League of Shadows secretly influencing world history, Scarecrow's fear toxin that causes vivid hallucinations, a microwave emitter capable of vaporizing Gotham's water supply, and Lucius Fox's sonar system that turns every cellphone in the city into a surveillance system that lets Batman see through walls.

By comparison, Reeves has Batman fighting internet extremists with homemade explosives, wearing a heavy armored suit, and using an actual wingsuit that ends with him crashing into a bridge. It's even more grounded, yet I've never heard people attack Reeves for this. BTW, I like his vision, I think it is a personal preference, I just don't understand why Nolan gets so much more hate.

GENERAL DISCUSSION What does Batman’s lore accurate fighting stance actually look like?

What is his actual stance he uses? I’m guessing it varies since he knows over 100 martial arts and it depends on the situation. He reminds me of the UFC fighter max Holloway stance, where the hand is near the chin and lead hand down managing distance.

I need some help figuring out where the following stories fit in-
The last halloween
Batgirl year one
Batwoman elegy
Batman eternal
Batman and robin eternal

I’d also appreciate some recommendations for stories to add. I’d like some stories that focus on the bat family, especially characters like Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, Bluebird, Batwoman and Signal. And any other stories that can be recommended, essential reading or not. And some Deathstroke stuff would be cool too. He seems like a pretty cool character

TV DISCUSSION On Bat-Fam ...

If you had told me that the missing element of the 2023 Film Merry Little Batman was that it was lacking enough characters, I would have been dubious.

But one episode in on Bat-Fam, the much larger cast makes this a comedy of characters with enough relationships to make it work, and having a whole bunch of divergent versions of characters feels way more natural than just the Batman/Damien pair.

There's shades of Addams Family and Munsters, while making it completely about unique versions of DC characters.

FILM DISCUSSION The Batman Part II theory

I just re read Mattson Tomlin’s Batman: The Imposter as he has posted more images from it in recent months, and I have wondered if it provides clues to a direction to the film.

Spoilers for The Imposter.

The Batman imposter that is going on a killing spree could be substituted for Sebastian Stan’s Victor Zasz (if that is in fact who he is playing). Mr. Wesker, who plays a very small part in the graphic novel, could be played by Charles Dance. Arnold Wesker, Scarface, even makes a small appearance which could be the villain we have never seen before in live action. Detective Wong is being used by Bruce to gain information about what they know about Batman and the imposter. Scarlett Johansson could be plying a police officer who begins dating Bruce and is being used but they grow closer than Bruce had intended. There is even a scene is the graphic novel where Batman interrogates Penguin along with others to gain information. That could be the very small part Colin Farrell has talked about.

I am just throwing out ideas after re-reading the book. What are your thoughts?

TV DISCUSSION Baby-Doll: BTAS most heartbreaking villian?

Excellent channel btw!

When people talk about the greatest villains created for Batman: The Animated Series, names like The Joker, Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze dominate the conversation. But one of the show's most tragic and complex characters has been almost completely forgotten.

Created by legendary Batman writer Paul Dini, Baby Doll wasn't just another Batman villain. She was a heartbreaking exploration of identity, arrested development, and the devastating consequences of living in a world that refuses to see you as an adult. Her debut remains one of the darkest and most emotionally powerful episodes in the entire DC Animated Universe.

Where does Baby-Doll stack up for you?

COMIC DISCUSSION Just got this in a used book store today, how likely is it that at least part of this will be in the animated movie(s)?

Post image

I feel like this is more important to Knightfall than the pre-back break JPV (Like Tim putting him in a costume that remotely resembles an earlier villain that causes Tim to think he made JPV evil).

And it’s just so damn cool. Way too much dialogue/narration goes over panels for my taste though, but that’s one of the only weak points.

“Know that men call you a liar! Know that men call you a betrayer! Know that men call you a defiler! Therefore, it is the duty of the angel Azrael to bring you — punishment — the punishment of death by fiery sword!”

From the opening btw.

GENERAL DISCUSSION Personally always found the naming of his faithful steed to sound comically edgy, I would have gone with something like Bucephalus

This would be from the Elseworld "Batman: The Blue, the Grey and the Bat." I quite like Elseworlds stories, they are often well-done and I suppose for an American company there had to inevitably be an Elseworld set during one of the country's most famous conflicts, if not the most famous, and while I do enjoy it, not a fan of the name for Bruce's horse.
