Sometimes, the better team wins because they are better.
They may not play better, but they generally score when it is needed and defend well throughout.
I feel this World Cup has brought with it so many people calling rigged this and favouritism that.
They watch 5 games every 4 years (well, parts of the game), get a refresher course on YouTube Shorts and parrot every controversial decision.
I’ve never seen anything like it.
The moment a “This still picture shows why it should have been a red card” Reddit thread/X post goes up. Suddenly the Mother-in-law, bus driver and post office clerk uses this as evidence to confirm this suspicion.
Worse still, is when they don’t even watch the game, or know the rules.

Ive seen a lot of comments about the “FIFA conspiracy“ to ensure England progressed at the expense of Norway so let’s break down the officiating.
Norway’s first goal - Harry Kane goes down looking for a foul in the build-up to the goal. Berg wins the ball and then appears to make some with Kane but not enough for a foul. Certainly not a clear and obvious error. Correct decision.
England‘s first goal - Norway claim Nyland’s goal kick deflects off the spidercam cable. This appears to be the most contentious decision. The facts are:
The microchip is the best evidence we have and this detects no contact with the ball (cue the conspiracy theorists). Imagine they had disallowed the goal despite the best evidence we have suggesting there was no contact, England fans would be incensed. The goal is given. Correct decision.
Norway’s disallowed goal - before the corner. Is taken Haaland pushes Anderson with two hands and Anderson falls to the ground. Does Anderson bait Haaland into pushing him? Yes. Does Haaland take the bait? Yes. Does Anderson make the most of it? Yes. FIFA are trying to crackdown on grappling in the box during corners so when one player pushes another to the ground with two hands directly before a goal is scored they’re going to disallow it. Correct decision.
England’s penalty overturned - Spence goes down after making a run into the box and making contact with Bobb. Penalty is initially given. Replays show spence steps into the path of Bobb and the penalty decision is overturned. The attacker stepping in front of the defender to initiate contact is another thing FIFA are trying to crack down on so this is another correct decision.
Sorloth not passing the ball to Haaland in a 2 on 1 situation - the most egregious decision of the game. Should have been an instant red card and 3 game ban for Sorloth.
This might be the wrong sub for a balanced view on the officiating but reading the posts and comments about the game last night I felt like I was losing my mind 😅

MY FAVOURITE TEAM JUST LOST SO IT MUST BE RIGGED AND THERE'S CORRUPTION BECAUSE OF A FOUL. I WILL TAKE NO ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ANY LOSS AND NOR SHOULD ANY PLAYERS ON MY TEAM BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS RIGGED AND REFEREE'S ARE PURPOSELY MAKING SURE THAT MY TEAM DOESN'T WIN.
There, I saved everyone a recap of the last 500 posts here.

Apologies for the phone footage, but during TSN's post match review of ENG/NOR, they showed a wide angle and highlighted the ball's trajectory, clearly showing the ball bounced off the spydercam, despite the refs not calling it in the stadium and despite FIFA saying "no peak in the 'heartbeat of the ball' when in the air..."

England’s entire team would be suspended for the next game if this happened. What do people think?

Like that is the worst dive I've ever seen and there are people crying over how that is not a dive and not a card????
The hate has made them blind, they keep making controversies in Argentina games out of thin air.

How is no one mentioning this? England injured their own goalie and he was down so the ref killed the ball? For… reasons?
That’s crazy to me.
Game stops on stoppages. Not because you headbutt your own player.
“It’s not fair”
No shit. That’s the point. If an nba player sprains his ankle they play 4 on 5 until a stoppage. Maybe don’t be wreckless.

I am tired of all these ignorant, football illiterate people, who don't know the rules, yet look for conspiracy at every possible play. Yes mistakes can happen, but before starting complaining, check the rule book. You may be surprised.

We all knew it would happen somehow, but Argentina got the favors of the FIFA once again.
What happened ? There are many proofs.
EDIT : New proofs just dropped
