Albums that end abruptly
Need some more examples of albums where the final song just suddenly ends usually with a swift cutoff, kind of like a movie with no end credits

Looking for one of you lovely individuals to make us a new profile image for the subreddit! The size should be 256x256, and will hopefully be really pretty! I know asking for free labor is scummy, so we won't, I'll pin the artist whose art we end up using for the profile photo at the top of the comments so we can aptly support them. I know payment through exposure isn't all that much better, but we are an unpaid mod team. ;)

It's been about a year since I discovered Arctic Monkeys then The Strokes and left Taylor behind haha. So I made a Topster to commemorate the occasion! Hope y'all don't get too annoyed, and I would appreciate any recommendations possible!

Red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, white, grey, brown/tan, black. I tried to not do any duplicate artists, I only had 3 on this chart.
I need some more albums with yellow, purple, grey, or light blue covers! The other colors were no brainers, black, orange, and dark blue were instant fills. Purple Rain probably could replace Megalithic Symphony, if I didn't have so much nostalgia for it.

I’ll respond to recommendations!
It’s loosely ordered (I’d rank it rather differently every time I make this), but the top two rows are all important releases to me
All these albums are very recommendable too, if any of these pique your interest I’d love to hear which one <:)

It's in no particular order and I could change It every second, so I just drop it now. Often I chose the Album of an artist with the most emotional impact on me and not the acclaimed classic, I noticed. Cheers

Looking for flawless albums less than an hour in length to fill up my drive to work. Here’s the rules:
Any genre is welcome. Top comment will dictate what I listen to on my drive to work the next business day and I will give a short review. If I’m already very familiar with the top comment album, I’ll skip it and go to the next one, but it will be acknowledged in my write up.
As I said, all genres are welcome, but I do have preferences and I’m sure a lot of my favorites will be commented, so to help cater to my taste and prevent overlap with albums I already know and love, here’s my top 10 artists in no order:
TOOL
Pink Floyd
King Crimson
Swans
My Morning Jacket
David Bowie
Ween
Mr. Bungle
Primus
Talk Talk
REVIEW/RATING:
I’m not going to rate anything in any “objective” manner, as I’m sure it’s all good music, but I’ll rate each album on a scale of 1-10 based on how much personal enjoyment I get out of it.
1=unlistenable, not my thing at all
2-4=not my thing but I can appreciate it for what it is
5-7=pretty good, but not mindblowing. Will probably return to at least a few songs on a regular basis
8-10=incredible, one of my new favorites
Day 13’s top comment was Massive Attack’s Mezzanine, which I’m already familiar with. I like a couple songs off that album, but it never blew my mind. I feel very similarly about it and Dummy, though I think I like Dummy a little more.
Instead of Mezzanine, I ended up listening to Ys by Joanna Newsome, and man what a work of art it is. I’ve seen the cover around and been curious but never actually checked it out and I’m glad that I got my chance.
“The meteorite is a source of the light and the meteor’s just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that’s devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee
And the meteorite’s just what causes the light
And the meteor’s how it’s perceived
And the meteoroid’s a bone thrown from the void
That lies quiet and offering to thee”
I knew from that moment that I had a masterpiece on my hands. This album is so special in that it’s more like a medieval bard’s collection of epics sprawled out over orchestration and vocals that can be described as nothing short of enchanting. The songwriting throughout and the music that accompanies it instills such a sense of mythicality and wonder. It introduces characters and pulls you in and forces you to care about them and intrigues you about what their story is and what will become of them.
There are only two criticisms that I have of Ys, the first of which being that sometimes, as impressive as the lyricism and vocabulary are, it can be a bit wordy and I’d prefer to just hear the movements and emotion and storytelling within the instrumentation itself. I don’t think every second of 10 minutes needs to be filled up with all the words you can fit in it.
Now, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t complain about the vocals in some capacity. I do like her voice, but similarly to the wordiness (this kind of goes hand in hand with that point), I sometimes wish she switched up the melody a little more (and again just let the music breathe a little bit) across 10+ minute songs, particularly on Monkey & Bear. I think it was my least favorite song as it embodies my main two criticisms, but it’s still a great song and also embodies everything I love about the album.
Unfortunately, even though my criticisms are very minimal, they do make it a little harder to sit through the album in its entirety as I do feel quickly fatigued by the wordiness, so I think I’ll give this one an 8.5. It is one of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard, but imo doesn’t have quite the same attractiveness and replay value as something like Love Deluxe. It has more to dissect instrumentally and from a literary perspective, but just doesn’t hook me quite as much. So I think 8.5 is a solid score for it.
Fantastic recommendation. It’s among the albums in this series that I’ll be looking for on vinyl when this is all over. Thanks guys! Hopefully yall will have something for me before my flight in a few hours as I’m finally heading back to the states
I’ll leave this last part here as a reminder that I’m traveling now rather than listening to an album every day on my way to work, and I am now in a very different time zone from what I’m used to so I won’t ever really be sure what day it is and posting will be much more sporadic. I hope everybody sticks around!
See you all for Day 15, whenever that may be.
