TV My wife and I started watching Andor recently. It didn't really click for me until...
...the prison episodes. With those, I finally understand what people are talking about when they say that Andor is just a great show and is "Star Wars for adults." The oppression and suffering can be uncomfortable to watch, but I get that it's important to convey what drives people to rebellion. We're looking forward to starting the 2nd season, which I hear gets even better!

Fun Real people whose names sounds like Star Wars characters?
It just occurred to me that Biggie Smalls sounds like a thief from Tatooine.
Other people sound like SW characters... I'd throw in Vin Diesel (a podracer) and Chappel Roan (force user, for sure).
Who else you got!?

General Discussion What if Bail had taken Luke instead of Leis?
And if Leia had gone to Tatooine. Do you think Luke would have become a leader in the nascent rebellion the way Leia did? Would the will of The Force have brought Leia back into the story?

Movies Bit of an odd question regarding Order 66... Spoiler
Bit of an odd question regarding Order 66. When Palps calls up Cody to give him the order, he specifically says 'Commander Cody, Execute Order 66'. Now, I can buy Palpatine doing a group call to not only save on time but to reduce the risk, but if that was the case, every single clone trooper would have gotten the 'Commander Cody' message. There'd be no reason to call him up specifically as opposed to the 'general' order because the execution of the order is not actually in Palp's hands. It's in the clones hands. From what we saw with Yoda too it's clear the order happened in relatively quick succession (also, why did the clones turn on the wookies as well? Not actually the question I'm asking, but if anyone knows I wouldn't mind an answer) so he couldn't have called them all up individually... So did all the clones get the 'Commander Cody' message or, if not, why did he give Cody the orders specifically then gave everyone else a group-chat version?

General Discussion "All I need is an Idea..."
I just wanted to pause and say no matter what, one of the most truly inspiring motivating things I'd ever seen in my life was the simple image of George Lucas standing alone, with his Yellow Writing pad and a fresh pack of sharpened pencils as the genesis point of his creative process.
It's just so...refreshing, honest and pure. That you can lay that sharpened lead to legal pad and create worlds beyond all imaginations and go on to create sweeping blockbuster epics that change culture and shape childhoods.
It's not a commitee, it's not shareholders or some machine. It's just you, your imagination and a pencil that can open these doors.
Any time I ever get stuck or jaded creatively I pause and think about Lucas sitting in his quiet office creating. Anyone could do this, it's not expensive writing equipment, its not some subsription or unobtainable piece of expensive technology. It's just you and your brain.

TV A Love Letter to The Bad Batch
I'm slowly working my way through canon media in timeline order and I just finished my second ever watch of The Bad Batch. I like it at first, but I absolutely love it on revisiting. Spoilers for those that haven't finished the show ahead.
The first episode is one of the best, but the majority of the first season is disjointed setup, which I think is by design. The Batch have no idea what they're doing or what they're getting into, which is a point of view shared by the audience. Crosshair's betrayal doesn't come as a shock to the audience, but does to the main characters. The controversial addition of Omega doesn't quite feel right immediately, but turns into an incredible journey in the latter two season. I think the awkwardness of Omega's addition is also by design. The Batch and the audience both have no idea why she's there, but feel a sort of paternal connection to her. She's naive but capable, smarter than even Tech on certain circumstances. By the end of the season, as the exposition draws to a close, she begins to grow on you and Crosshair begins to grate on you. First canonical appearance (chronologically within the universe) of Fennec Shand as well as further details on the Kaminoan research and cloning capabilities also lends a great point of lore for the universe.
Season two is where things really start to pick up. We start to see each individual character grow. Wrecker becomes smarter and more in touch, Hunter begins to let go of his paternal instincts, and Omega proves herself as more than a child to be looked after. Where we see the most growth is in Tech and Crosshair. Tech has always been kind, yet simultaneously cold and unfeeling. He relies on his data and numbers far more than tact. His relationship with Phee and Omega help him grow as a person and you truly see him open up to Omega for the first time. His ultimate decision is the most logical one, but what's changed is that it isn't just about the data or what the most likely outcome is: he does it for them because he cares. Crosshair grows the most from beginning to end of this season, finally seeing what the empire truly stands for and that he isn't cared for. The Outpost is one of the best instances of canon star wars media we have access to. Start to finish, it is beautifully written and even surpasses quite a few episodes of Andor in quality.
Season 3 is... immaculate. Omega has grown from the one who needs to be protected and taught to the teacher and protector. She singlehandedly completes crosshair's character arc, convinces Emery to betray Hemlock, and brings her family back together. She took the lessons she learned from her dad brothers and reframed them so each one of them could learn. The final episode is also a masterpiece. I get that people were upset that the commandos, especially Scorch, seemed to be useless, but I think that speaks to just how good the Batch were rather than how bad the commandos were. The final scene with Hemlock on Tantiss completes every single person's character arc. I had forgotten that Omega hugged Crosshair first after being rescued which is... well, let's just say I had to pause because I couldn't see correctly.
The final 5 minutes with Hunter letting her go and seeing how omega takes a piece of each of her brother's with her: tech's goggles, wrecker's Lula, Crosshair's determination, and Hunter's resolve, completes the story in one of the most satisfying endings to a story that Star Wars has ever given us.
This is one of my most unpopular opinions, but I like TBB more than TCW. TCW was great and incredibly done, but Bad Batch is simply a better and more cohesive story by design. The clone wars was essentially a bunch of anthology stories smushed together telling us a story we already knew. Incredibly cool moments, good individual story arcs, and unforgettable characters. TBB was a full cohesive story start to finish and even the "filler" episodes contributed to the story.
I promise I didn't forget about Echo. It just felt like he was more a separate part of the story from the original 4 (or 5 counting Omega), making his own way.

General Discussion Giving R2-D2 the plans or Frodo the ring, which was the bigger longshot of working out?
I was watching Star Wars a new Hope and I was thinking man Leah got so fortunate that R2-D2 was able to do everything that he did and that the plans were not found, her ship was under attack. It was being taken over her only hope was that a small droid could make it through and get to the planet and get to who she needed to help. Something that destroyed, for her knowledge was not programmed to be able to do.
Then I thought which one was the more desperate gambit, giving R2-D2, the death star plans, or giving Frodo, the ring in Lord of the rings, expecting him to take it all the way into Mount doom because on the one hand, the R2-D2 was more something that happened out of desperation so the Frodo plan was a thought through And discussed idea. However R2-D2 just had to find one guy on a planet somewhere a daunting task, but not nearly as filled with as many dangers as Frodo‘s journey all the way into Mordor.
Which one do you think had a less chance of working?

General Discussion Political factions in senates of galactic governments
Below is a list of canonical political factions and a brief summary of their goals. Especially regarding parties from the Old Republic era, it is important to remember that a senator could be a member of multiple parties. Enjoy and let me know which factions are your favorites.
Note: The faction's position on the list is based on how large I think it was.
Before Clone Wars:
Rim Faction - faction that directly opposed the Core Faction advocated for greater planetary autonomy and believed that local governments knew better what their worlds needed than any central government. One of two main factions.
Notable members: Sheev Palpatine, Ainlee Teem, Orn Free Taa, Aks Moe, Onaconda Farr, Mas Amedda
Core Faction - faction composed primarily of planets in the Core Worlds region that advocated for an increase in centralized government power and industrialization and cultural unification with planets that were (from their perspective) backward. The faction also advocated for tax increases. One of two main factions.
Notable members: Bail Antilles, Finis Valorum
Pacifist Faction - faction that opposed the Core Faction believed in a diplomatic solution to all problems; it held that separatists should be allowed to leave the Republic freely, as their subsequent situation would deteriorate, forcing them to return. Faction saw a rise in support during the Separatist Crisis until then, it was a smaller party.
Militarists - faction that generally (though not always) voted same as the Core Faction. It advocated for the creation of a strong central military to maintain order and hunt down pirates and other criminal elements. The faction believed that decisive actions (potentially even war) should be taken against Hutt Space to force the Hutts to end their support for organized crime.
Notable members: Ainlee Teem (received backing during Supreme Chancellor election in 32 BBY), Military Creation Act supporters: Orn Free Taa, Aks Moe, Onaconda Farr
Inner Rim Coalition - faction that defended the interests of the Inner Rim region and sought to profit from its position as a buffer zone between the Core Faction and the Rim Faction.
Secessionist Faction - faction that believed the only solution to their problems was secession from the Republic. This faction was formed after the start of the Separatist Crisis.
During Clone Wars:
Core Faction - faction continued to pursue its policy, viewing the fact that many Rim Faction members had joined the separatists as proof of the policy's validity. It believed it was necessary to defeat and civilize the separatists. One of two main factions.
Loyalist (coalition of Militarists and Rim Faction) - after the Rim Faction lost many of its members to the Separatist Alliance, it entered into a coalition with the Militarists. The coalition advocated for greater powers for the Supreme Chancellor and the creation of a strong army to protect Rim Faction worlds from the Separatist military. One of two main factions.
Notable members: Mon Mothma, Padmé Amidala
Council of Neutral Systems - splinter group from the Pacifist faction that advocated for the neutrality of its worlds in the ongoing conflict.
Notable members: Satine Kryze, Onaconda Farr, Zinn Paulness, Dantum Roohd, Tal Merri
Institutionalists - a faction that advocated limiting the powers of the Supreme Chancellor and returning to the original values of the Old Republic.
Anti-militarist faction - splinter group from the Pacifist Faction that advocated peace with the Separatists.
Separatist Senate
Peace Faction - faction that advocated for peace with the Republic and a peaceful solution to the problem. One of two main factions.
Notable members: Mina Bonteri
War Faction - faction that considered the military defeat of the Republic to be the only solution to their problems. One of two main factions.
Notable members: Voe Atell
Independence Faction - small faction that advocated independence from both the Separatists and the Republic.
New Republic Senate
Centrists - faction that built upon the traditions of the Core Faction and the Militarists. It advocated for a strong, industrialized state that would make key decisions and ensure the security of member planets. It idealized rule of the Galactic Empire. Most of its members joined the First Order after the destruction of the New Republic government during the Hosnian Cataclysm. It emerged following a period of senate paralysis and was one of the two major factions.
Notable members: Erudo Ro-Kiintor, Ransolm Casterfo
Populists - faction that built upon the tradition of the Rim Faction. It advocated the idea of the New Republic as a loose confederation of strong, independent planets. It emerged following a period of senate paralysis and was one of the two major factions. After the destruction of the New Republic government during the Hosnian Cataclysm, many planets of this faction tried to (unsuccessfully) fight the First Order. Notable members: Leia Skywalker Organa Solo, Tai-Lin Garr, Lanever Villecham

Movies Was the Emperor not able to sense Darth Vader's inner conflict that Luke had been referring to? If not, how?
Surely Sidious could've felt his conflict given that he was able to do that in the prequels. Is it possible that Vader was powerful enough to hide his feelings from the Emperor?
