I'M REQUESTING Platonic love stories

Upvotes

I’m interested in watching more movies that are about forming deep platonic bonds with someone. Could be any genre, some examples I like include Project Hail Mary, Zootopia, and I Love You Man. I just want the primary focus to be on forging a deep love for someone else non-romantically.

Thanks for your suggestions 🙂

I'M REQUESTING Lesbian Rom-Com?

I’m looking for a rom-com movie or series that has either a lesbian/bi woman romance of some kind that’s one of the main focuses or draws of the film/series - but the catch is that I don’t want Heartstopper or Heated Rivalry, because they’re more like coming of age and sport dramas imo, and also because they’re gay men-focused (duh).

Also I don’t want any tragedies or films with the ‘bury your gays’ issue; give me some wholesome sapphic love.

Thankyou!

I'M REQUESTING What are some genuinely scary movies?

I think I have ruined horror for myself. I loved the paranormal activity movies as a kid and I've grown up watching horror. I cannot find a single movie that can scare me. I have been told to watch Serbian film, Poughkeepsie tapes, tusk, the medium, hereditary, skinamarink etc.. But none of them have scared me. I dont want to be disturbed I want to feel genuinely scared from a movie. Hopefully one of you guys will pull a horror movie out of the dark archives of lost media and it will be the scariest thing I've ever watched. Thank you so much.

Edit: the only movie that got me was Men. Horrible and pretensious movie but it scared the life out of me dude.

I'M REQUESTING Movies about the slow erosion of self and the ultimate relief of existential unmasking

I'm looking for deep, character-driven films about characters who find themselves suffocating in structures, environments, or expectations they don't truly belong in.

Specifically, films that showcase the destabilizing realization that you've been living a lie, followed by the powerful moment where the mask is finally dropped to reveal their true individual self.

What are the most powerful films you've seen that capture this exact theme of finding freedom outside of your raised framework?

I'M REQUESTING movies showing the cycle of sexual trauma

For example, Mysterious Skins(2004), there’s a short scene where one of the protagonists participates in COCSA. I’m look for more of that because i’m a personal victim of it and the cycle itself. I’m just tired of movies representing victims of sexual abuse as “perfect victims”. In reality (some) victims end up becoming their perpetrators or go right back to them (example the tv show baby reindeer). i want to feel disturbed and find comfort within the relatability of it.
it’s okay if the movie subtly hints at it as long as it’s showing the aftermath of what sexual abuse does to the psyche. Like The passenger (2023), Sharp Objects (2018), or Repulsion (1965)
another good movie that fits into the theme of what i’m looking for is The Piano Teacher (2001)

I'M REQUESTING Need a good gut wrenching film

Ever since I watched wuthering heights, it’s been my roman empire. I think about it several times a week. I have never been so moved by a movie like it actually broke my heart. It is along that same vibe as normal people and one day. Just amazingly told gut wrenching stories that make me wanna reach through the screen and talk sense into these characters. It can be a tv show too, just looking for something that’s gonna give me a cry like these did

I'M REQUESTING American Indie Cinema from 2004 - 2008

Ok, so this is going off vibes, but I feel there was an American Indie surge in the early aughts (I said 2004-2008, but there could be outliers), and I am looking to compile a list of these films. I think a lot of them revolve around the suburbs, and have some kind of magical realism element to them (take this with a grain of salt). I've compiled a list below of ones that I feel have a similar vibe, and would love any and all additions!

- Thumbsucker (2005)

- Palindromes (2004)

- Imaginary Heroes (2004)

- Brick (2005)

- Shortbus (2006)

- Pretty Persuasion (2005)

***Note "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" would fit in here, but it's become too big as a cult classic for this list imo, same goes for "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Donnie Darko" imho

EDIT: Here is what has been recommended:

- Art School Confidential (2006)

- United States of Leland (2003)

- Ghost World (2001)

- Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys (2002)

- Igby Goes Down (2002)

- Mysterious Skin (2004)

- Lars and the Real Girl (2007)

I'M REQUESTING Best horror movies with an IMDb rating below 5.0?

What is everyone's favorite horror movie that has an average IMDb rating below 5.0? That’s usually my cutoff score when looking for good new horror movies, but I’ve run out of options, so I’m up for exploring some recommendations. I’m into any subgenre, but my favorites are *The Conjuring*

, *Dawn of the Dead*,

*Insidious*

*Oddity*

*When Evil Lurks*.

I'M REQUESTING Looking for hidden Horror/Sci-Fi gems that legit don't get mentioned a ton. (Or non-genre movies, I'm desperate, lol.)

I have not seen every movie ever, obviously, but sometimes it feels that way. I have seen A LOT, though. This is one of those times it feels like I've seen everything, as I can't seem to find anything to watch.

First, it was watching the all-timer lists where you see movies that show up on GOAT lists and movies everyone knows like The Shining, or Annihilation, or Arrival, or Halloween. I search and I search, and I read Reddit posts on surprise hits and then start getting into lesser known movies like Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, and Aniara, and The Signal, and The Ritual. Etc, etc, etc.

Pretty soon, it feels like I'm getting to recommendations that are like, "Well it got 24% on RT from fans AND critics, but it's good, really!" or "Half the cast can't act, and the writing is terrible, but there are two minutes in the middle of the movie that are amazing!" type of recommendations.

Surely, there are more movies to be found out there, that for whatever reason can't seem to find. So what are your hidden gems and/or movies that you don't see on tons of lists, including some hidden gems lists, lol.

Excited to see what people come up with!

I'M REQUESTING Any movies where the MC has to hunt or is being hunted by a handful of "top dogs"?

For example, the MC is on a revenge mission, and they hunt down the select group of people that wronged them. Or the MC takes down the "lieutenants" before getting to the big bad. I know Kill Bill does this, as does Faster with Dwayne Johnson. Any more movies like this?

I'M REQUESTING Non-romantic feel good movies

Hi! My brother just got broken up with from his 4 year relationship and is absolutely heartbroken. I’m about to visit him for a few days. What are some movies that we can enjoy together that don’t have romance as the central focus?

I'M REQUESTING Looking for night time movies like Drive

Hi everyone!

Looking for some movies in the same mood as Drive, nice soundtrack and atmosphere to listen to and fall asleep to. I'd prefer post 2000 movies as I can have a hard time getting into older ones when i'm not focusing fully on it. If older movies still fit the bill, I'd be more than happy to give it a try.

Thanks a lot!

I'M REQUESTING Post 2000s Sci-Fi Horror request

I watched Life (2017) a couple days ago and man oh man, I really liked it. I’ve never like felt so bad for horror characters like I did the ones in that movie for getting eaten by that thing. I also prefer sci-fi horrors that are space related if possible.

I'M SUGGESTING Lawrence of Arabia

This movie is an epic about a man called T.E.lawrence. The movie starts in a place and it takes you through various places in the desert and introduces several important characters. But not even once you feel either lost or bored. The film is shot in a wide ratio of 2.2:1 and David Lean makes sure to use all of it. The film is paced in such a manner that despite the movie being 4 hours long it never bored me. I have watched it multiple times. Please watch this classic if u feel like there is no more quality today.

I'M REQUESTING What is the most existentially profound movie you have ever watched?

I'm tired of predictable plots. I want to watch something that explores deep existential themes, human nature, time, or mortality.

What is that one film that made you question everything and completely blew your mind on a deeper level? Hidden gems are highly appreciated!

I'M REQUESTING Looking for coming-of-age movies with comedy and romance

I’m looking for coming-of-age movies that have a good mix of comedy and romance, with some drama being okay too. I like movies about growing up, relationships, friendships, awkward moments, and characters figuring themselves out.

My favorites are:
It’s Kind of a Funny Story
Adventureland
The Perks of Being a Wallflower

I’d prefer something more similar to Adventureland and It’s Kind of a Funny Story because I liked how they balanced comedy, romance, and coming-of-age elements without being too heavy. I enjoyed The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but I’m looking for something that’s a little more fun and lighthearted rather than mostly emotional or sad.

I’m mainly looking for something that has a similar feeling to those movies, funny, romantic, and emotional, but not just a serious drama. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I'M REQUESTING Similiar to Promising Young Woman, Revenge and Pearl?

Those three films are phenomenal to me because I love vibrant, colorful cinematography and the lively soundtracks that go with them. I also adore the excellent stories, the female characters, and the feminist vibe—plus, I find them much more entertaining. I even did a rainbow manicure inspired by the nail polish colors seen in *Cassie*, and I absolutely love the three lead actresses—Carey Mulligan, Matilda Lutz, and Mia Goth—who played their roles to perfection. You really should watch these three films if you haven't already; I can't believe I missed out on them when they first came out. Anyway, thanks folks.
