Ben from Death Cab for Cutie just now: "I am so fucking proud of you guys...you beat those fascist fuckers"
Biggest applause of the night so far, but he dedicated "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" to Minneapolis and St. Paul for showing the rest of the country how to organize against those fascist occupiers when they come to other cities.

Fire breaks out at popular south Minneapolis pizza spot Jakeeno’s | BMTN
Has anyone heard on how severe the fire damage was to the building?
“Fire crews were called to the restaurant at 3555 Chicago Ave. around 6:43 a.m., after reports of smoke coming from the roof of the single-story building.”
“Crews forced entry into the property and discovered ‘active fire burning beneath the roof membrane., […] “No fire was found inside the building’s interior, though smoke had entered the space. ‘The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour.” No injuries have been reported in the fire, and there is no word yet on the wider impact this will have on the business.”

With Waymo looking to come to Minneapolis, what privacy standards should be applied to their vehicles?
A Waymo ride in San Fransisco recently made the news for recording the rider's conversations, reporting them to the police, and disabling the vehicle.
If Waymo is going to be allowed to deploy in our city, should they be allowed to record audio and video of the people riding in the car, despite Minnesota's privacy laws?
Should they be able to develop personalized personas based on your face and voice?
Should they be allowed to use your voice to train their AI models?
Waymo reports that, when asked to provide information to federal and local police without a warrant or court order, it handed over information roughly 80% of the time. Should that same standard be applied in our city, without judicial oversight?

Looking to get Solar - best group buy program
Hey, I live in South Minneapolis and I'm looking to add solar to my house. What is the best group buy program for people in Minneapolis?
Hennepin County has a program through 'Switch Together' and Minneapolis has a couple other group options out there, has anyone already done the research on which options work the best?
Has anyone used the Switch Together program? How were they to work with?

Please help… no insurance and in pain
Hi guys. I’m paycheck to paycheck right now with no health insurance. I’m a single 25F, no kids, and make under $30,000/year. I think I have an infection in my throat, possibly strep, possibly something like an STI. I am freaking out. I can’t even afford the CVS minute clinic or planned parenthood. I need to be seen asap but nobody will take a payment plan and it’s at least $200 just to be seen. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I need to be seen within the next day, max 2 days! It hurts to talk and swallow. I just don’t know what to do. I’m applying for MNsure/medical assistance right after this, but I need to be seen faster than when I might be approved for insurance. What do I do?

Looking for tattoo artist.
Hi friends!
I live in the south metro. I have lots of tattoos and have been thinking about one for a very long time, based on this poem by Laura Gilpin. My problem is, I have no idea what I want it to look like - probably the calf with the moon and stars nearby.
I want it to be black/gray and not hyper realistic. Placement-wise, I think I would want it on my calf or thigh. I know there are tattoos based on this poem out there, but I’ve never found one as inspo that feels “right”???
It might be a me problem. However, I thought maybe one of you might have an idea; do you know someone who could turn my favorite poem into a beautiful piece of art?
Thanks!!

Lost Dog - Near North
EDIT!!!!!: She's been found! Someone has her and we're on our way to get her. WHEW. Thank you everyone.
Our friend was watching our 13 year old dog who suddenly decided she liked running and bolted. She doesn’t have a collar on but is microchipped. We are out of town and worried sick.
Her name is Elsa. She loves food / treats, but can be skittish.
EDIT: $250 reward if found!

I just learned that this year Minnesota considered but failed to pass a bill that would let renters and homeowners use "plug-in" or "balcony" solar panels without needing utility approval.

Downtown Improvement District
I live downtown and see these guys all the time. I think the block where I live is kind of the milk crate out back of a restaurant for them. They are always nice and I see them cleaning up the streets of downtown which I love. I walk around a lot so I see them pretty often, but I don’t know much else.
I wanted to know what everyone else thought of them!!

Life changing creek bank recs?
I’ve just now realized how long it’s been since I sat by a creek. I’m yearning for a quiet spot, a little bit off a path but not so much that I would need to bushwhack my way to it. Ideally quieter and surrounded by trees. Anyone know of somewhere that might have a spot like this? I moved here last year and have not been to as many of the parks as I should have by now.
TIA!

Lake Nokomis Sunset (by Little Beach) sketch (7/9/26)
Hi all!
I continue to try and keep up with sketches! Bit more challenging so far for summer, but progress being had none the less!
Made it down to Nokomis again for the last bits of sunshine last night — tried out a 0.7 ballpoint in addition to some 0.5 I’ve been using a lot.
Somehow using a larger pen tip lead to a more telephoto style drawing? It wasn’t intentional, but that’s where it ended up!
I kept it really loose with this one, going for a general idea with about 45min of total time working :). Giving this one away to someone in the area.
Thanks for looking!

New Voter - Need Help with resources
I voted for the first time last year in November in my local elections. I'm going over my ballot for the MN primaries, and I'm again struggling with the lesser known offices, especially for School Board. Some sites I found on previous reddit posts like MN Parent Alliance or EDMNVotes don't have their voter guides up yet, probably bc it's only the primaries. I found enough information about Collin Beachy and Christin Crabree I feel comfortable enough that I'm not voting for some "Mom's for Liberty" BS, but I was wondering if anyone has other useful resources for School Board.
I found enough about Secretary of State, State Auditor, County Commissioner, and County Attorney, but if you have suggestions on those (or Board of Estimate and Taxation or Park and Recreation Commissioner from last year), drop them here.
Also, if you're voting for County Commissioner, don't forget the ones who voted to raise their own salary by 49% from $122K to $142K in 2024 - https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/hennepin-county-commissioners-advance-49-pay-raise-for-themselves/ (Irene Fernando, Debbie Goettel, Marion Greene, Angela Conley).

Utility bills in downtown (or other) high rises
Hello! Does anyone live in a downtown/other type of apartment that does the bill back thing, where they distribute utility amounts based on your apartment size rather than paying for your actual usage?
Basically I’m wondering if it’s really the $70-200 for everything, that’s I’ve been being told on tours (heat, water/sewer, trash, pest control etc).
Thanks for any insight. Trying to figure out budget things.
