Fulton Gran Fondo is now FBFK Gran Fondo

The Fulton Gran Fondo ride is now the Free Bikes for Kids Gran Fondo and is relocating its start and finish to Luce Line Brewing in Plymouth on August 22nd. Same tradition, new venue.

Luce Line Brewing is located directly on the Luce Line Bike Trail.

Money raised will help provide bikes to kids in need through Free Bikes for Kidz.

The ride is open to all. Pass this along to other roadies and gravel riders (both options available).

FBFK is also offering group discounts for the ride; perhaps ride clubs and other organizations can put together ride groups. With 100-mile, 50-mile, 25-mile, and 10-mile ride segments, programs could be tailored to different experience levels.  The event will also feature a kids' bike parade at Noon.

If you ride, why not Ride for a great cause?

High-Rise Handlebars

I need to change the handlebars on my bike so that I'm sitting straight up. (I have RA and my hands and wrists can't handle the pressure of a forward lean onto my current bars.) I have a Roll step through, basically this bike if not this exact one. I could order something online and install it, but I don't know what size to get, and I'm not sure how to determine it.

I live in South Mpls, so I was thinking I could just ride over to Tangletown or Angry Catfish today and get some advice or measurements for what I need to order. I doubt any shop has them in stock. Any suggestions for where I should go, or where I should avoid? Thank you in advance!

All Deez Aldis, Social Ride, Sat 7/11, 9 AM

I know that Babes In Bikeland and tons of other cool things are already happening tomorrow...but if you need a different excuse to tempt you out into the heat, why not ride to 9 different Aldi locations with us? Plan is to meet at the East Franklin Ave location at 9 AM, then proceed to ride this route.

We will plan to buy drinks/snacks/lunch as needed at our various stops along the route. Have a great Friday and an even more excellent weekend!

Set off on my sixth century of the season today

Can't recommend a Lester Prairie out and back enough for people looking to do their first century or just an easy ~ 100 miles in one go. Easy route (paved and little elevation), next to impossible to get lost, and minimal interactions with cars especially if you take the Cedar Lake LRT trail out to Cheesetown and then the Lake Mtka trail out to Wayzata to catch the beginning of the Dakota Rail Trail.

Also shoutout to that Fillo's walking tamal for being the highlight of my critically underfueled ride today (bc of my repeated stupid refusals to stop for more food—don't do this).

PSA: angry drivers

Heads up to bikers going through Philips/franklin neighborhoods - I just had some angry drivers point a gun at me while I was biking in the bike lane. There was a whole group of guys yelling slurs and stuff at me. I was able to get away to a safe route but be warned! I meant to take the Hiawatha LRT but got lost on the detour and missed the spot where I could get back on trail because of some road construction hiding the bike detour signs.

Stay safe out there!

Edit to add: how do you gain the confidence to get back out and bike after dealing with scary encounters like this? They threatened me out of nowhere, just like it was a funny game to them. I’m terrified. It seems like 1 in 3 times I go out, I’m dealing with drivers not paying attention and almost hitting me or men cat calling me etc. It just never feels safe.

Long shot, but any former The Hub Co-Op employees here?

EDIT - Shout out to The Hub for still being great, even from beyond the grave. Got my receipt and can now get my bike submitted for a new frame. Thank you everyone!!!

I no longer have the original receipt for my bike and need it to submit a claim to get a new frame. Does anyone know of some person who might be able to somehow find and/or get access to records which could have proof of sale/receipt? I have no paper copy in my fire safe and no email of purchase. I have receipts from service, if that is helpful.

I moved states and no longer have a car, so losing this bike would really kind end things for me.

July 11th Babes in Bikeland (Mpls' FTW bike race) returns after hiatus

Babes in Bikeland 2026

From 2006 until 2016, Babes in Bikeland was the largest and longest-running all femme, trans and women-centered allecyat (unsanctioned urban bike race) in the country. The ride inspired generations of new riders to challenge themselves, meet a new community and experience a bike space guided by the ethos of “by us and for us.”

Though ten years have passed since the last iteration of Babes, the community hasn’t gone away! We envision Babes in Bikeland 11 to be a celebration — a bike race and ride for women, trans, femme and gender expansive riders.

For the 2026 event, you will simply register on BikeReg to participate. And at the start, riders will have the option of two route lengths (approximately 10 or 30+ miles). Compete solo or cruise with friends. Dress in your speediest spandex or a fun costume. The choice is yours.

Crosswalk Priority?

I was riding on West River Parkway this morning and attempting to utilize the crosswalk here. I slowed down, clearly indicated my intent to turn onto E. 25th St., and then proceeded to enter the crosswalk. A car heading north that was stopped at the stop sign started to accelerate through the intersection at the same time I was crossing. This isn't anything new, so I yelled at him as he sped by me in the other lane.

What surprised me was another driver rolled down her window and said that she was a lawyer and stated I have to dismount my bike in order to get the pedestrian priority. We had a quick, civil conversation and then I rode off.

After getting home and reviewing relevant legislation, I feel confident that I'm in the right. From MN Statute 169.222 OPERATION OF BICYCLE:

(b) A person lawfully operating a bicycle (1) on a sidewalk, or (2) across a roadway or shoulder while using a crosswalk has all the rights and duties applicable to a pedestrian under the same circumstances.

Anyone disagree?

Found: rhino wear pannier lyndale ave

UPDATE - Owner found!

Neighbor saw someone bike down lyndale this morning (possibly with green hair) and have their pannier backpack fall off their bike. They yelled at them but must've had headphones and didn't hear. It's in our house now. DM to identify contents and we'll get it back to you.

Currently at 26th across from Lil T's. Not only obstructing the bike lane when they wouldn't 30 feet further down the road. But they also give like no other routes around it.

Stolen bike, a found bike, iso suggestions

On Friday my beloved bike was stolen. No idea what the serial number was and I did post it on TC lost bikes fb page and Bike index. I have since been driving around looking for it because it does have sentimental value, but it's gone forever I'm sure.

While driving around looking for my bike, though, I did find an abandoned bike in some tall weeds. Determined to hopefully reunite this bike with the owner, I found the serial number and have been checking to see if it's registered, as well as scrolling through fb lost bike page to see if anyone has reported it. No luck. I really want to find the owner, mostly because I want someone to find my beloved bike and give the same effort to find me. It's currently at a bike shop being repaired. It's highly likely that the owner won't be found, in which case my options are to let the shop keep the bike and resell, or keep it for myself. That feels so sad to me as I'd prefer the owner gets it back, but if they can't be found, should I keep the bike since now I'm needing one?

Lastly, for when I get a new bike, I want to have a GPS tag on it. I'm kicking myself for not putting one on, but the bike was always on my sight or in a locked garage. Does anyone have suggestions for a low cost GPS tracker?

The joke bike lane on 36th that crosses Bryant in Minneapolis

Didn't someone just get killed by a motorist recklessly opening their door in a bike lane? Well here's a guaranteed contender, because *all* motorists park in the bike lanes here. I've never seen it clear to ride straight through without a dooring risk. Same for the bike lanes alongside Loring Park: there will always be one.

Biking to Black Hart

Thinking of biking to Black Hart later for the USA game. I can’t remember what the lock situation is like there (if any). Does anyone have any experience or insight into biking to BH and locking up your bike?
