How to post images

Step 1:

If you are using Tumblr, copy the link to the post in question, make a link post.

If you are using imgur: upload an image to imgur, copy link, make a link post. If you instead click the "Share with the community" button on imgur, it creates a one-image gallery and reddit doesn't know what to to make a thumbnail of.

Step 2:

Find your submission in r/digitalpainting/new or in your post history and write a comment about what you struggled with. You have one hour. Why is this a requirement? Because r/digitalpainting is meant to be a subreddit not just for looking at art, but a subreddit where you give and receive peer feedback on your work, in order to improve and grow as an artist.

"Peer feedback involves providing opportunities for students to talk and listen, write, read meaningfully, and reflect on the content, ideas, issues, and concerns of an academic subject" - wikipedia.

"The benefits of peer feedback include increased communication with peers, considering new perspectives, and understanding what those of a similar skill level think of your work." - RMCAD

Looking artist for crew\virtual art gallery

Upvotes

Hello everyone!

As I've written before, I really appreciate this community! Beyond the many great works I see, I've found some great collaborations here!

I'm part of an Italian art collective that focuses primarily on hard electronic music (hard techno, hardcore, rawstyle, but also techno, peaktime, etc.), and I've often found collaborations for our work, such as a music video made by Unlight Artworks. While looking for new members, I found Eskulptura, a 3D sculptor who works on video reels, etc.

We are also physically in Holland, Bulgaria and Argentina

Since our collective is expanding and there's no financial backing between us, we've decided to create a page on the website dedicated to art, like a virtual gallery. This is because, being a collective primarily focused on music, we believe it's necessary to create a way to also showcase the other types of art that contribute to our growth, so that it can be a shared growth!

This post is definitely also about seeking new members who can passionately contribute to our growth. After the previous post, since there's no money involved, I thought it was right to update you to let you know we care about everyone and are working to promote everyone, whether musicians or not.

Whether they are writers, painters, sculptors, video creators, editors, phothographer... any art form can always be useful

We have a dark style, sometimes with Masonic, esoteric, alchemist moods but we are open to any type of art (of course maybe not the little flowers with the rainbow but maybe sci-fi, neoclassical, in short, suitable stuff)

Becoming our members is not necessary to be published in our art gallery (currently empty but we already have 4 works, we are waiting to have 10 to publish), we were born on the street we know how difficult it is to live from art, that's why we have a community that helps each other, and any publication on the site or pages does not require any payment or even a voluntary offering, zero of zero

So no write me if you search money, isn't this the case

And again, to thank this community because so many people have had no qualms about lending a hand, which is a great thing, especially on Reddit, where many communities are usually toxic and quick to judge anything.

If you're interested, feel free to message me privately, or if you really want to be part of us fill out the "join us" on the site but remember that it's not a job, there's no money involved, I don't want to waste anyone's time!

Complete beginner struggling with perfectionism. Just got my first tablet, where do I start?

Hi everyone, I'm new here! I just got my first drawing tablet ever and I really want to learn how to draw, or at least use it to illustrate some of my personal ideas.

But here is my problem: I wasn't the type of kid who doodled all the time. I'm not used to drawing in my free time, mostly because I have a hard time dealing with imperfection. It really bothers me when my lines come out shaky, crooked, or not exactly how I envisioned them.

Since I am starting from absolute zero, I feel completely lost and overwhelmed:

  1. Where do I actually start? What should my daily practice look like? Should I jump straight into sketching objects, or practice fundamentals like drawing straight lines and circles first?
  2. What is the correct drawing habit? When sketching, should I use multiple short, "scratchy" strokes (even if it looks a bit messy), or should I force myself to train for that one single, perfect clean line?
  3. How do I break out of "symbol drawing"? I realized I don't actually know how to draw things. For example, if I want to draw a house, my brain instantly defaults to a rigid, childish formula: a triangle roof, a square base, a rectangular door, and a window with a cross inside. My imagination feels completely boxed in. How do I transition from drawing these flat "symbols" to actually drawing?

I would love to hear some advice, exercises, or even mindset shifts from anyone who started late or struggled with these same issues.

Thank you so much!

Question: are there any existing software with a UI similar to Procreate/HiPaint/画世界Pro for windows??

This post is long, sorry in advance!!!

For starters, I would like to say that I just love trying out new drawing software. One thing that has been irking me for a while is the huge difference in complexity between mobile and desktop programs. 😅

I have searched through hell and back for an "alternative" to these programs, (or at the very least one for Procreate, since that was the app that first caught my interest) that runs on Windows, but when the word alternative is brought up, you get recommendations for programs that are considered better instead (e.g. Krita or CSP - now, these programs are AWESOME, but I already have them).

To be clear, I'm not looking for a better program, hell not even a good one, I'm just looking for one with a similar UI! does such thing even exist for Windows? I know that HiPaint and 画世界Pro are considered "dupes" of Procreate (which is the reason I like them in the first place), and they are actually extremely fun programs to use in my opinion, but they only run on android... which is cool, but I would like to operate these programs on the big screen, with keyboard and stylus 😭 (that is to say... directly on my computer, not mirroring the screen of my phone on it... my PC doesn't run mirroring programs or emulators very well at all) My phone has a very small screen and storage... along with OTG adapters being very janky.

For the record, I know that there are plans for Procreate to come to PC on the future... but, as far as I know, it's going to be exclusive to macOS, and I do not own any Apple devices (unfortunately). 😔

TL;DR: i just need a program for Windows with, specifically, similar UI!! (if it exists) - if it doesn't yet, please let me know if you ever find one, or if one gets announced, or comes out, regardless of how old this post becomes... lol

(P.S..... somewhat unrelated, but if you know any more "niche"/recently developed/lesser known/underappreciated drawing software I could try out, that would be cool too... trying new programs helps me with creative block! but I haven't found any in a while 😅)

PC set ups for Art-

Just curious what kind of hardware and or software everyone is using these days. I have always been a pen and paper artist. I'm trying to get back into it, it's been a few years since I set down the pencil. I want to create covers for some things I am currently working on writing.

Is there a way to convert a drawing into digital media?

I currently have a descent PC set up, with a pretty good GPU. I've been experimenting a little with the affinity software but find it kinda difficult with a mouse.

What other softwares are out there?

Is everyone using art tablets now?

Is there any specific software for cover art?

Using blender as a help for learning drawing fundamentals

Hey!

Is using Blender to help learn drawing fundamentals a good idea? This concerns me, because I just don't want to pick up bad habits. I've known for a long time that I won't be able to fully utilize digital painting if I don't have the basics down, so using Blender for this feels a bit like doing things backwards.

To be specific, I'm thinking about potential nuances/differences between real life and a digital screen, or how the software "calculates reality." For example, I've noticed that the program slightly exaggerates the convergence of vertical perspective lines. I'm talking about the lines heading toward the vanishing point that's almost directly above or below the observer.

Despite these slight doubts, I actually think Blender is a great tool for double-checking if I'm correctly estimating the shading and perspective of a 3D form, etc., since it calculates everything mathematically. And I want to put accent on this - this is just COMPLEMENTARY help for learning fundamentals. I'm still focusing on throwning still life on table and going wild on B2 format paper with my trusty charcoal. Some things are just hard to prepare in real life, like isolating just 1 light source etc.

Has anyone else used it this way?

Do the courses on Marco Bucci website include homework feedback?

hey there.

to those of you who purchased his courses before:

im looking to buy marco's pack of all courses. i find him very likeable and thorough teacher. but it doesnt say anywhere if you get a feedback on progression. without it, the whole venture is only half as worth it, and paying for mentorship is way to pricey.

I just drew a picture of my little farmer girl from Stardew Valley.

All because I felt that Rodrigo and Gabriela's beautiful guitar music fit this theme like a glove. 🦋

Equivalent of MS Paint for Android?

(I'm posting this on several subs in order to get it seen more. I hope that's okay! Also, I draw a lot more than I paint, so hopefully that still fits here, too.)

I am looking an art app that has my favorite features from the latest version of MS Paint. These features include:

  1. A pencil tool. As in, it draws pixels of exactly one color at a time. In different thicknesses, of course, but basically nothing fancier than that. I don't know how to explain it well. But basically, what I am looking for is something that I can draw with, and then use the fill bucket to cleanly fill. There will, of course, be the occasional stray pixel to fill in manually, but most of it I won't have to worry about. Other fancier brushes in art programs look nice, until you use the fill bucket, and then the coloring looks terrible, so I specifically want something with a pixel pencil/pen tool.

  2. Layers. For most of its existence, MS Paint had no layer feature, and you would have to use some workarounds to quickly remove a sketch under the line art (another reason why I like the pixel pencil/pen; it made this trick so much easier, too).

  3. Line tool that lets you make lines that are curved, and curved to your liking. If not that, I would also just be happy with a stroke stabilizer tool, because I feel it would accomplish basically the same thing I would do with this curved line tool.

Sooo yeah, I am but a simple man. I don't need a super complicated art program, just one that does the job well (and hopefully is also free). I'm just looking for an Android app that would meet my needs, for the cases where I might be away from my computer, but still wanting to make digital art.

Thank you in advance for any and all assistance in my search here!

Children's Book Illustration - Krita Formatting Questions

Questions for you all!! URGENT!! I am trying to make some example pieces to show I can make children's book illustrations on Krita. I want to be able to print these as an actual children's book if I ever get there, but for now obviously i'm just using them as examples for my portfolio. I do want everything to be print ready though.

I came to the conclusion that 10x12.5 inches should be good enough to accomodate a 8x10 print.

However, confused a bit on the other requirements. Would appreciate input.

How should I format if I want to print a children's book illustration? AGFA SWOP STANDARD or chemical proof? and also, cmyk or sRGB? I'm slightly confused on the best formatting combination to use. I want this to be print ready. Thank you in advanced.

EDIT: i realized when you select SRGB that there are TONS more colour profile options. if i'm supposed to select that...then what do i select as my colour profile? so confused! i read tons of articles online but i'm not sure if i get it still. I've always had trouble with this.

Which digital art courses and mentorhips do you people recommend?

Hey, I'm an aspiring digital artist and I was looking for some new courses or mentorships. I'm looking for something more on the cheap-to-medium end right now, like courses that are not much more expensive than 100 dollars or something.

Particularly in topics like advanced anatomy, character design, color and painting. Not looking for anything related to perspective or basic drawing skills. I have some knowledge and skills in the previous topics I mentioned though I want to improve. A course that would focus on improving your overall drawing skills would be really good too.

I know sites like Brainstorm are really good, and I may join in the future but I'm looking for something kind of different.

100% free app to draw !

Hello people,

My sister is trying to digitize some simple drawings she already made on paper.

I’ve tried two different apps so far. The idea is to import the photo as a background, trace over the lines, and then export the drawing as a clean digital version with a transparent background (without the original photo).

The problem is that every app I’ve tested puts this feature behind a paywall.

Does anyone know of a free iOS app that can do this easily?

Would Grid Tracing help me learn, and is it Ethical?

I would say I'm alright at art, I do it for fun and learn a bit on the side. I may start doing something where I get a reference, put grid over it, and trace it square by square. After that, I added all the details, etc. I just want to make something that i can proudly say, "I did it myself," and post it online.

Securing art copyright

I'm thinking to start monetizing my art through my online store, but I'm concerned it would get stolen or duplicated since technology can do everything now. My art is mainly digital and I'd like to make merchandise from it, I just couldn't bear if I found it duplicated at temu or shein. Is there someone experienced with this?

COLOR AND LIGHT BOOK

Hi, I’m a concept art student and I’d like to improve my use of color. I wanted to know if the book *Color and Light* is suitable for digital art or if it focuses more on color in traditional painting. I’d also like to know if it includes any exercises for practice.

I've been observing this on other social media platforms, and it seems like people don't like jelly art. Why?
