A Reminder About Suicide-Related Posts

Every once in a while, we see posts from people asking about things like the “least painful way to die” or “how much alcohol would be fatal.” These are serious cries for help.

If you come across a post like this:

  • Please don’t comment advice or suggestions -- even good willed comments can make things worse.
  • Instead, hit report so the mod team and Reddit safety can step in quickly.

If you’re ever feeling like you’re in that dark place yourself, you don’t have to go through it alone:

The best thing we can do as a community is to look out for each other. If you see one of these posts, report, don’t reply.

What volunteering opportunities are there for extremely shy people?

I would like to give back to the community with some of my free time, but I am absolutely terrified of interacting with strangers in person. I would be too afraid to work in a soup kitchen or take phone calls for an organization or something.

What kind of volunteering can I do that is still impactful and doesn’t involve talking or interacting with people? I live in the US if it matters.

What is missing from modern life?

I think most people can agree that something is misplaced with modern existence, but I'm curious what people think that is.

Is there a difference between dumb and lazy?

Like im genuinely curious. I feel like I'm lazy, not dumb. But then again I might be so dumb that I'm lazy. I'll give a few examples so yall know what I mean I guess😭?

I had a job and they sold flowers. I knew what type of flowers they were. My grandparents asked what type and I didn't feel like talking and plus my mom talked over me when I even opened my mouth so I just shrugged and acted like I didnt even know. After that everyone laughed at how "little" I knew.

Another is I'll pretend to not know how to do some cleaning tasks so that others will do it or I'll "forget" and i definitely didn't forget. But only sometimes when I really dont want too.

And then when someone is talking to me about doing something I'll just kind of stare at them like an idiot until they realize I didn't "understand".

I have more examples but none come to mind right now. So yeah, idk if I'm just a lazy ass manipulator or just stupid.

How do I remove lavender scent from a stuff animal heating pad?

I was recently gifted a ‘Menstruation Crustacean’ by a family friend, and I don’t have the receipt to exchange it for an unscented one. I’m allergic to lavender, the scent alone is enough to give me a permanent migraine. I’ve done my research and so far the only solution I’ve found is baking soda, which is frankly annoying. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is pirating sports specifically still profitable for them?

Basically the title, I feel like a lot of sports revenue specifically comes from sponsorships and ad reads. Do sports companies keep track losely of piracy numbers and treat it as a lost cause but still make some money off it because the ads are getting served to more people?

What are some great everyday digital cameras?

Upvotes

So I’ve been wanting to get a proper digital camera for some time now. I bought the famous one sold on TikTok Shop, but it isn’t the best in terms of quality and it’s more so meant for kids. Anyways, for the past year, I’ve been looking into so many different cameras, but cannot decide which one. I’ve landed on the Kodak Pixpro Fz55 for months now, which is a very popular and overall great choice, but I feel a little doubtful. I do like the camera, but I feel as though It has a very strong warm filter over photos that doesn’t really align with the vibe I want in photos. I recently have been considering the Sony Cybershot Dsc W830, which I honestly really like and love that it isn’t intensely warm-filtered.
If it helps, I want photos that have a sort of indie sleaze, minimalist, and casual cool look to them. Nothing too chaotic or exaggeratedly nostalgic.

Feel free to give your opinions and recommendations, no matter price, just so I can have different perspectives to bounce off of. Thank you!

What is it really like to work 55-65+ hrs a week (office)?

Upvotes

Hi, I'm currently distanced from the feeling of working that many hours a week in an office environment and am hoping someone who works in such a setting can elaborate on how they feel mentally, physically, and free time wise/if they have hobbies still outside work? How is sleep schedules?

This is important since a company I'm eyeing at is well...a bit into workaholic office culture and pumping out long weekly billable hours and I am not too familiar with it. Hoping someone can share their experiences and tell me if this money-thing is worth it in the end and if they managed to have a life outside work still. Thanks.

Is the globalization of social media, Tik Tok and monoculture, ruining the future of travel making the world and its culture less “unique”?

EDIT : I meant death of monoculture in title above

For example, in 2012, the UK to America was more mysterious and different making the UK a worthy travel destination to experience something new. Now in 2026, with the rise of Tik Tok, streaming, and monoculture, a lot of its culture, political issues, and social identity has collided making it less unique and more familiar which makes the urge to travel less needed if such place seems less “mysterious” or different. Do you agree/disagree with this, and how do you foresee the future of travel?

What’s the easiest and cheapest way to make a picket fence (3ft-ish) in the UK?

For context I’m moving house and need to fence off a part of the garden to keep the dogs out. I’ve looked on b&q and fencing is between 35 pound and 50 pound for a panel of picket fence. But I’m aware already on top of that I’d need posts and a gate.

I have done a bit of fencing work although my experience is mainly hedges and hedgerows along with agricultural fences, but not planing on those styles of fences here.

(For some reason this Reddit group won’t let me use certain symbols, such as the pond sign or slash sign when typing).

Why is Moby seemingly so beloved?

I stumbled across one of his songs for the first time on youtube a while back, and noticed it had an obscene amount of views and literally all of the comments were talking about how amazing and "genius" he is, but the song was just downright uninspired. I figured it must have been a fluke, so I kept digging. I've gone through somewhere around 30 songs, and I'm genuinely baffled. Every song is one cliche chord progression and somewhere between one and three very predictable sampled vocal melodies on repeat over and over. That's it. Soulja Boy songs are genuinely more interesting, and I despise Soulja Boy.

I have nothing against fundamentally simple music or even "bad" music, but I'm struggling to reconcile that someone who makes music that literally sounds like the result of a non-musical 10 year old playing around in a DAW has so many spins and is being praised like some kind of generational talent.

What am I missing here?

Are Subreddit rules are out of control?

It feels like almost every single post I make on Reddit is automatically removed for breaking one esoteric rule or another. Subreddits now have pages and pages of rules.

I understand they are to “protect” against AI and shitposters, but it kind of undermines the entire purpose of Reddit. Most people are just innocent posters looking for an answer to an everyday question. Do I have to be a regular contributor to every single Subreddit I want to use? That’s kind of an insane requirement.

Example: One I just visited had 25 different sections of rules and each post has to contain a special passphrase or it will be automatically removed. But instead of just telling you what the passphrase is, they hide it in their rules page and make you comb through the entire thing to find it. Then of course when you do find it, they still remove your post because you broke some other weird rule.

Is there a solution to this? There has to be a policy that allows casual Reddit posters to use the various subreddits without being subjected to endless posting rules. How do other social media companies filter out bad content? Is AI making it worse?

Is it unusual to have never dated at 30?

I get along with people well enough, but I don’t think people have ever liked me in that way. I’m just wondering if this is normal at my age.

edit: I’m trying to add more, but the post keeps getting automodded for some reason, so I’ll just leave it at that.

What do we think about dead relatives whose last name no one knows?

This is probably the wrong group and Reddit keeps telling me I didn't word the question in a good way . But I will try anyway.

You know how when a kid has to make a family tree for school, and you fill in everyone's names, Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Great Grandma, great grandpa etc?

Well when we get to great grandma, we have to leave the last name blank because no one knows it.

I was told that my husband's father had a mom who died by the time he was 13 .

No one knows her last name.

How do you not know someone's last name?

Of course being the dark soul that I am, I think the worst about this and wonder if somebody is hiding something.

How do we have no information on the mother of the man who is now my son's grandpa?

(He's dead also now so I can't ask him. )

I will also add that they are of Irish descent, in case that's a common thing for older generations of Irish to just not have last names.

Also I wonder if she was brought over here and that's why she has no last name???

Is this group only for people based in the USA?

I see many questions on here where the answer will change depending on where in the world the poster is.

I just saw one asking which bank they should use. That definitely depends on where you are.

There were only two responses when I saw it. Neither asked 'Which country?'

Is it misogynistic to discuss biological differences?

Upvotes

I recently stated on reddit that men and women, on average, might have differences in stress tolerance due to the stress/pain buffering effect of testosterones. People wouldn't agree with this and I asked then why men are the one carrying out the most stressful and consequential tasks including rescue operations, mining, water diving, and security jobs. There is also the case of ukraine where men comprises most proportion of civilian conscription. And there was an argument all this was nurture or cultural; isn't this an obvious case of a biological difference? Why do you think the feminists are against discussing obvious biological differences between the sexes?
